Cool episode, very enjoyable, love the truck I wish they were more useable in England!
The Cummins uses a grid heater, not glow plugs. The Killer Dowel Pin (KDP) was mainly an issue in 12 Valve engines, but some 24 valves up to 01 had the issue.
The last auto accident I was party to, I was a passenger in a Dodge Diplomat. It was the "company car" for the business I worked for at the time. Wet pavement plus locking up brakes caused car to swap rear with the front right into a guard rail. End of an era, that.
Would you believe I bought my son a 2006 Saturn ion after reading through some of the specs I find out it doesn't have abs brakes
@@j_rainsgoat3929 Saturn, now that I think about it, I would belive it. They were not great cars.
Visiting the Cummins factory in Columbus, IN would be a neat idea. Please make it a fan meetup event so we can celebrate a million miles with you!
Killer dowel pins are only on 12 valves 👍🏻
Yeah and grid heater no glow plugs
I don't think so, the 24 ran smoother so its less likely to rattle out, but I do think they still had kdp. See deboss garage everything wrong with 24v
@@jorgevivanco9583 you are exactly right kdp is still there as the blocks are exactly the same only the heads are different
@@jorgevivanco9583 24v non common rails still had the KDP. Common rails do not.
He doesn't know much about them lol. Aka glow plugs
My grandfather ALWAYS got those Diplomats for company cars. I remember sinking into those oh so plush seats.
Had a 1985 Dodge Diplomat as my first car. Love seeing them on the road today.
Good horse. You were lucky to aquire it. Stay healthy and good luck homie...the old man's down the road ....
I love how he doesn't even warm it up for a minute 🤣
And will do short stints. That old dog needs to warm up then run for a long time.
It was parked outside of the garage. The seller obviously drove and warmed it up before Hoovie got there.
I cringe at that every time, that's awful
@@kamilnowak623 These days, I cringe every time he gets behind the wheel or even starts a vehicle up. Thank GOD HE FINALLY GOT THE MESSAGE ON SLAPPING CARS!
Why? Oil is pumped to the top in about two seconds.
Tyler, I love when you take your Hooptie fleet on roadtrips!!
thanks to Ford and GM, I never felt these cars were big by 80s standards
There was a larger Chrysler platform that was phased out previous to the LeBaron/Diplomat shown, the Dodge Monaco/Chrysler Newport/New Yorker/Plymouth Gran Fury. Recall the Blues Brothers movie... That was the 'full size' and the Diplomat was 'mid size', and became full size when Chrysler finally, belatedly killed the Monaco/Newport. Terrible cars, and terrible times for Chrysler. The K cars were the new midsize, with the Omni/Horizon as the small econobox cars. It was all front wheel drive and mini vans after that...
That was surprisingly soothing, definitely a nice change of pace
My 91 d350 odometer has 170000 on it but the odometer stopped working in 1997
Probably your best car TBH. Such a beast.
April Fool's: Cummins blew the engine 🤣
Love this change of pace for videos! And the viper is my favorite car! Awesome video!
Averaging 160 miles a day for 17 years to reach 997k at average highway speeds, that engine has around 12k hours on it. It's Very normal for them to last that long in heavy equipment.
Engines want to run. Sitting the death.
3:38 yes, that is the only kind of music I wanna hear when towing 👍🏻
Could you find other owners that have reached a million miles? Lets say 5 owners? And then do a once over by a reputable garage? To see the maintenance cost on each vehicle?
They are incredible work trucks.
Please do more of these road trip, enjoying a car videos, we love them too!
I love the fact you see 70/80s cars still running in the US. It's very, very rare to see any car above the 20s on the road in the UK.
Unfortunately it was drummed into us British numpties a car is junk after 100k miles, which is obviously not true. The other problem is people do not want to spend any money on old cars either.
Bob doing a Hoovie on Tyler was superb!
