What I can, as a 32 year life long Texan, yes when you get 20-30 year old Texas car, you’ll have zero rust whatsoever, but you’ll likely NEVER find one with original pain that isn’t shot. You have to trade the paint (Texas sun) to save the body from rust. It’s a win in my book lol

Really nice to see a Suburban in such condition. My dad has owned a 01 Burgundy Suburban for the past 11 years and at 275k miles, it runs like new. And about the seats, we would go on road trips from Massachusetts to North Carolina and feel extremely comfortable. Love seeing more people appreciate these beautiful trucks
Hell yes Tyler! A time capsule is right! So happy to see this on the channel. I have a ‘03 white z71 Tahoe. I got it 2005 with 18k miles. It now has 223,000k on it with the OG motor and trans. But it has more rust than your black SS Silverado thanks to Illinois winters. It’s been a great vehicle. PS, Vango does some nice work! Wish I had a one stop shop like that near me.
a 2005 Chevy that lived in the SNOW belt with out rust ? I think it's impossible. Many years ago, I had to take a fairly nice looking Chevy to the junk yard, the rust was so bad that it was not safe to drive. The whole subsystem in the car was hanging on by a thread. That was my last Chevy I ever owned. Never had any serious rust issues from owning a Toyota or a Lexus....EVER....

Love the Suburban, the GMT-800 series is about the best. Everything you said is very true. The GMT-400 series are also quite decent. We have Suburbans , one a diesel 1996 and 5.3 2001. Both have recieved very dedicated and ongoing rust proofing treatments to keep them rust free. We wish for them to last a very long time. Enjoy your new Suburban, nothing else really compares to them in that segmant!
I love my GMT800 suburban. My dad bought it used in '08, I passed my drivers test in it, took over the payments when i was in college, and I'm still driving it to this day.
I bought a 2005 new. First Silver Birch truck in my town. I had a webasto sunroof cut in. It was a great time with that truck. Of course, life with it in the desert southwest never taught me how rust prone it was. I think overall I liked my C1500 454SS a little better, because of not being nearly as complicated. Thanks for the video. Has anyone else wondered where all that wtc steel went? Just sayin.

@10:29 It's not just the seats, it's the tires. People underestimate the effect of tires, specifically the size of the sidewall. My dad and I both have late model Dodge Challengers - mine (AWD) with 235/55-19, his (RWD) with 245/45-20. Mine rides MUCH nicer despite being nearly identical. Seats are super comfortable too.
Repairs were beyond the frame… if the frame would’ve been an issue, the Wizard wouldn’t bought it… repairs didn’t make sense for him, however the Wizard can get the repair cost out of his channel and he’ll do all mechanical work.
The solution to keeping a vehicle for a long time (I live in Ottawa Ontario Canada) if to have your vehicle oil sprayed yearly. The annual cost is in the $120 range depending on the vehicle size. The rust problem is that rust does its real dirty work in the warm summer months. The salt/sand mess gets into the areas between the fenders and works relentlessly when it it warm. When you get your vehicle sprayed professionally, there are holes drilled and wands are run into these areas under pressure and spayed during the treatment. The really good shops use two types, the thinner variety which has a creeper (allows it to spread), and the thicker variety (sometimes called snot) which is put along break lines etc. to prevent rusting. My wife just sold her 2005 GMC Jimmy which was still whole and not rusted and got an excellent price due to condition. This vehicle spent its life in Ottawa. I was told in New York state that oil spraying is not permitted in the US by the EPA due to there is some oil dripping after spraying. So maybe that is not an option in the US.
These Z71's have a roller on the back roof rack so standing at the back you can load wood, boards, or big items on the roof by yourself. I dont thing any other vehicle did this
I'm glad The Wizzard got the SS, instead off EuroAsian Bob's junkyard! Also glad you're keeping the Buick!! Beautiful Suburban Z71!! I just bought a beautiful 49k mile '04 Buick Park Avenue and it's awesome & so comfy!
i've had 2 GMT-800's and they were amazing rigs. My 2000 Silverado stepside regular cab 4x4 manual everything, 5 speed 4.8 V8 truck. Had 170k miles on it and it was super clean. Bought a 2003 Z71 extended cab with 25k miles on it, put 250k miles on it in 5 years. only ever did brakes, 2 wheel bearings and a drivers side seat lower cushion because the foam wore out. Amazing rigs.
The trend now is to make everything "sporty" - seats, ties, wheels, suspension - and the result is poor ride quality and a lack of comfort on a vehicle that was never supposed to be "sporty". I am waiting for Recaro's and summer tires to be an option for minivans.
Even econoboxes - lol, back in 2019 I hired a Hyundai Accent Sport...I assume its called a "Sport" because the suspension is calibrated to send your spine out through your skull. Horrible thing to drive on crap Aussie roads.
I don't understand why he wanted too get rid of it after he had all the rust fixed. Only other thing it needed was a new hood. he had 11K into it those SS's are worth 15 20K all day long. He said it had high mileage 190K aint high mileage for a 6 liter lol. Hell my 2003 Avalanche is pushing 300K.
Yeah, when you said that SS was from the east coast, I was thinking RUST. Glad you got out of it. I'm sure Wizard will be able to get that SS up to standard without spending a fortune.
Please get a Lightning Even as a Ford guy, I'll admit the SS trucks look a lot nicer, but I feel like you need a red Lightning, like from the first f&f lol
I really don't understand how GM went from having comfy seats in early 2000s to very uncomfortable seats now 🤷 they are the worst seats out of the 3 American brands
Also how did they decide that the 80s era let's watch the fenders rust before the damn thing is paid off supposed to make you feel your getting your money's worth
The seats in those trucks are great. Especially the cloth ones. Every car now has gone to hard "sport" style seats. Remember the 80's gm's with the super soft pillow like velour seats? Those were a DREAM.
Absolutely true. I bought my first GM vehicle since the 70s and the leather seat is so hard I have to use one of those rubber honeycomb seat cushions to keep my tailbone from causing screaming pain, even on shortish trips.
Here in Canada with our winter salt we seldom see time capsules like those. Love the suburban but the roadmaster brings back memories of sitting in the back.
GMT 800 platform is the best. We have an 03 Yukon Denali we have owned since brand new and we have only done spark plugs, one set of brakes, a fuel pump, water pump, one o2 sensor, new air ride shocks, fluid maintenance etc. Mostly all preventative maintenance stuff. It has 155k miles on it now and it looks and drives brand new. Has no problem cruising nicely on the freeway at 100 + mph, in mexico of course.
Ugggg. I’m so jealous. I’m on the east coast and looked for a gmt 800 z71 tahoe or suburban for over 3 years. THREE YEARS. And every one that I came across was clapped out, a rust bucket, or some ungodly lifted small peen death trap. I ended up having to settle for a 2000 Z71 OBS, which don’t get me wrong. I like her. She’s the last of the 5.7 350s and is def a Frankenstein b/c all the 2000 limited and z71s we basically just make with left over parts. Freaking trying to get the correct part #s for her is a pain in the arse. Took me a while to just figure out the stupid BAL radiator codes lmao. Still got a long way to go (the previous owner was a older guy who did a great job spraying it down to prevent salt rust in the winter - but he def did not do anything that required breaking a sweat - so you know, I’m just having fun lol). But for as much as I love the GMT400, I was in high school when the z71 gmt800 came out and fml I loveeeee those trucks. My first Gf had a 05 z71 suburban and man did we have fun in that thing 😏
Wow, 2 absolute beauties!! We had a few of the box generation wagons as a kid before my parents bought an Astro. My parents had a 78 Pontiac, then an 84 Electra Estate, then an 87 Caprice wagon. Loved sitting in the 3rd row!!

Wiz doing Hoov a solid. QUESTION: How much of a comeback do you have if someone just outright scams you on a sale? (I'm assuming it depends on where the deal was struck? Like, if it's through a legit website then you have more chance of getting your money back, whereas if it's through something like Craig's List you're effed in the a.)
If you bought it “as is” your really just out the money even if it’s from a real dealership. A reputable dealership is more likely to work with you to maintain their reputation but that only goes so far.
It depends. Like others have said, the simple phrase of "sold as is", can kill any chances of getting money back. For private sellers, if they forget that important phrase, than its a civil matter so you can take them to court. Which can be expensive, but depending how much money in involved you can take them to small claims court. (where you most likely will not need a lawyer, some states do not even allow lawyers for small claims cases) Small claims varies place to place tho, in my city its max monetary value is 12k, while others can max out at 2k. But its significantly cheaper than a full court case/trial type of deal. SCC is usually under $1000 total in costs. (depending on your area and court system ofc)
@@Philip_J_Hill In some states "as is" isn't the end....if they purposely did things to hide issues and you could prove say they knew the engine was shot and didn't divulge it to you. (like if they purposely put 50W oil in the engine to quiet it down). If the seller knows of an issue they have to, by law, tell you. One way to prove they knew about an issue is if they had an estimate from a local garage that told them it needed an engine, they doctored it, sold it to you and a week later the engine is shot. I live in a small town and a co-worker bought a used car from a local honda dealer...literally 2 weeks later the engine seized. The dealer said "you refused the extended warranty, TFB" well, when the Mayor, lawyers, and local newspaper got involved, the dealer gave them their money back.
Back in 2008 we bought a 2004 Suburban Z71 with 65,000 miles on it. It was our family hauler until last year when we sold it. It sure felt like we traveled a lot but the odometer had 167,000 when we parted ways. Looking at Hoovie's 05 Z71 was like looking back in time.

I didn't hate the "Riptide blue" thing, it was obvious you'd been intoxicated by it, so it was fun to watch like watching someone hopped up on gas.
Saying it several times was fine, typical Hoovie things.
What made it obnoxious for me was the edit, it felt really drawn out.
Stuart: "We have secrets" ... this, I cannot wait for. Awesome to see VanGo again... they are artists. Props to Wizard getting you out of the brown stuff too - I bet he'll pimp that SS up a treat.
The Chevy Silverado SS drives awesome, sad that we won't see it get fixed up the way you do usually. It's clear Wizard likes it too.
It appears that the Wizard has realized that it'd be a good thing for a mechanic's TH-cam channel to follow Tyler's formula (without the dumbing down part).
I am singing "That's what friends are for" - That SS would be a good truck, too bad it was not maintained well.
It was barely “kept on the road”
Really nice to see a Suburban in such condition. My dad has owned a 01 Burgundy Suburban for the past 11 years and at 275k miles, it runs like new. And about the seats, we would go on road trips from Massachusetts to North Carolina and feel extremely comfortable. Love seeing more people appreciate these beautiful trucks
awesome! My 2003 Avalanche with 291K still runs like new too!! They don't make them like they used too!
I guess he did smoked a lot of pot lmao. I love when the guy rubs his hands “oh I got a bill for you”
Hell yes Tyler!
9:54 that's because the tyre wall is part of the suspension.
a 2005 Chevy that lived in the SNOW belt with out rust ? I think it's impossible. Many years ago, I had to take a fairly nice looking Chevy to the junk yard, the rust was so bad that it was not safe to drive. The whole subsystem in the car was hanging on by a thread.
That was my last Chevy I ever owned. Never had any serious rust issues from owning a Toyota or a Lexus....EVER....
Damn! We were looking for a tahoe/suburban like that. They were all beat to hell though. We ended up getting an 06 escalade because they had been maintained better. My wife is SUPER jealous. That bermuda blue is the color she wanted.
Good taste brother. In trucks anyway.
I love Hoovie..And his comment on the Gmt400 interior is exactly what I always say..The pre 95 "retro" square interiors..love it
I loved the R I P T I D E B L U E humor. I can't be the only one.
I miss the Riptide Blue, the Bermuda Blue is cool but just isn't the same...
Hi hovie, that sound was the unmistakable sound of the new guy hitting a really soft bit of dirt in the trench they were packing. Thanks for leaving that in.
Making me miss my old 04 Tahoe, such a reliable truck. Mine was rusting bad and I traded it in on an 9 year old F-150. It has had more problems in a few months than the two years I've owned the Tahoe. They don't make them like they used too.
291K on my 2003 Avalanche still runs like new. They don't make them like they used too.
So glad you're enjoying the "New" Suburban and sorry I didn't catch the paint flaws...guess I got excited / didn't want someone else scooping it up. Either way, I'm excited to see what you do with it!!
Just sayin.
That last line lmao 🤣 who thinks of that
I'm still fan Gillingham out meeting you today at Barret Jackson in WPB. Thank you for all the content and being such a genuine person!
It’s almost like literally everyone could’ve seen this coming or something when you buy something sight unseen
Probably because we all could!
10:30 I think it comes from the new seats having the cooling function, you can't have as much stuffing as in the old seats so the old seats if done well will feel SOO much comfier
I almost bought a car yesterday because I liked how good it looked in blue.
I think I caught something from Tyler.
I love that the detailing-guy is happy to work on a car like this. A true car guy!
The Silverado SS will always be worth something, even with miles. Good to see it’s in good hands (not Allstate’s 😂😂). Hopefully Wizard fixes some cosmetic issues and install an ‘06 hood to make it look tougher 👍👍 BTW, that z71, as a Gmt800 fanatic, it’s gorgeous!! Good score !! 🙌🙌 Now you can ditch the Land Rover and still supercharge that Z71 !! Just talk to Alex from Legit street cars !!
190K was nothing for that SS. can't believe he gave it up.
Commendable for wizard to take the truck of your hand! That's what friends are for! You support him and he supports you!
Oh man, I have a love-hate relationship with this channel. I love Tyler's taste in cars, but I hate how I don't have access to anything like em in Ireland 😂. I'd love to experience that Roadmaster, it looks more comfy than my grandparents lounge
Would love Americans cars, but the gas price would kill you.
I live in the general vicinity of the wizard and I can’t help but feel they’re buying up all the good deals! 🤣
@@Dozav7 haha I wouldn't be surprised to be honest. They are forever buying cars it seems
I know what you mean. I have always wanted a big old Buick or Oldsmobile estate but you just don't see them in England.
I can guarantee it’s more comfortable than most house furniture. I drove many of these when I worked at a car wash back in the 90’s
Hoovie- You and Wizard have the best chemistry I swear. You should talk with FYI about a five episode series called "Hoovie and Wizard." Make it a sitcom and include your families and friends. It would need a story arc though, something like you negotiating a good deal on a deposed Russian oligarch's 300 foot yacht for Wizard.
It's not a 1-Owner anymore! I share your love for GMT800 and used to live in rust country. Hard to find one worth buying without travelling to the desserts.
Old Chevys (s10/Silverados) are still plentiful here in socal. While it's expensive to live here and the political ideologies are bonkers, not having to deal with rust makes it worth it
@@samholdsworth420 I wouldn’t mind finding a super clean 2WD OBS S-10 for an engine swap project.
@@GoFastGator damn my friend just sold his single cab short bed 88 S10 mint condition. They're still out there!!!
My mother has a 01 suburban lt that has 220k. White with tan interior. Garage kept it whole life. Exactly in this condition but unfortunately not z71 4x4. No major issues. Great South Florida truck
I'm such a sucker for Roadmasters. Reminds me of the one my dad had in my youth. So fun and comfortable to drive.
Hoovie: "Just look at the quality!"
Chevy SS: "Hold my beer and watch this....."
“Falls apart”
15:16 when a person that’s gonna work in your car show’s so much passion for they’re job...❤️🚗
One of those rare win-win moments in Hoovie's Life
Love these types of videos, so nostalgic, I'm 43 and Moms drove these beasts. 83 Buick LeSabre, 85 Caddy fleetwood brougham
Patch it to where it's safe and reliable doesn't need to be a show truck and rip around imo. Patch the frame where it needs
you can't patch a frame
I'll rephrase cuz I know someone's going to say something, you shouldn't patch a frame
Repairs were beyond the frame… if the frame would’ve been an issue, the Wizard wouldn’t bought it… repairs didn’t make sense for him, however the Wizard can get the repair cost out of his channel and he’ll do all mechanical work.
There's nothing safe & reliable when it comes to patching the frame of a car. This car needs a new/used rust free frame.
I think I saw that SS today when I dropped off my 2004 XJR with the Wizard!!
These Z71's have a roller on the back roof rack so standing at the back you can load wood, boards, or big items on the roof by yourself. I dont thing any other vehicle did this
This is one of the many great features. The console insert is removeable so you can wash it which I always thought was great.
I bet he did remove the cladding to see if there was hidden rust
11:07 Stepper motors in the cluster going out? Look at the tach when it shifts out of 1st.
I'd take this truck any day love the silverado ss!!
i've had 2 GMT-800's and they were amazing rigs.
We see so much of this in the upper Midwest love the content Tyler! Wizard you rock!
The backseat reminds me of my parents 90's e-wagon. I used to love sitting back there and making funny faces at the drivers behind us.
Same! We had an 80s Grand Marquis. Had the metal back floors then the reverse seats.
The trend now is to make everything "sporty" - seats, ties, wheels, suspension - and the result is poor ride quality and a lack of comfort on a vehicle that was never supposed to be "sporty". I am waiting for Recaro's and summer tires to be an option for minivans.
Yes! Low profile tires murder your ride quality. That's part of why the Buick Roadmaster and Dodge Diplomat ride so nice.
Why can't they be GT sporty - fast but comfortable? I'd give up 10% of the speed for 100% more comfort.
Even econoboxes - lol, back in 2019 I hired a Hyundai Accent Sport...I assume its called a "Sport" because the suspension is calibrated to send your spine out through your skull. Horrible thing to drive on crap Aussie roads.
I like how no matter how big his channel has gotten he keeps buying hoopties. Please never change.
I don't see how you can lose on the Roadmaster, especially when those issues are addressed. It's so bad, it's cool!
I agree. That cars an instant classic!
I have a 99 Sierra and an 07 Saturn Ion Redline, the difference between the seat quality is outstanding
No! I had high hopes for this beast of a Chevy.
Totally agree with you about car seats have become uncomfortable compared to the armchairs in that Subarban
Yeah, when you said that SS was from the east coast, I was thinking RUST. Glad you got out of it. I'm sure Wizard will be able to get that SS up to standard without spending a fortune.
YESSSS!!!! I'm so glad your giving the road master some love!
Please get a Lightning
Even as a Ford guy, I'll admit the SS trucks look a lot nicer, but I feel like you need a red Lightning, like from the first f&f lol
Which engine did the lightnings have though?
Okay it's not the three valve...sall 👍🏻
I’m in agreement with you! Definitely need a red lightning.
That intro is why you two are the best on on all of YT!
This is hilarious. I had a 2002 Silverado crew cab I had to pull the cord on cuz it was a rust bucket
I just upgraded from a caravan to an 04 suburban 3/4 killing me with gas prices right now but geeez is it clean and feel like a boss driving it.
I have an 03 Lanche and gas been killing me here in California lol
They found out concrete was cheaper than seat foam.
@@rogersmith7396 😂 I'm dying
Here in Canada with our winter salt we seldom see time capsules like those. Love the suburban but the roadmaster brings back memories of sitting in the back.
Hey, you can't lose 'em all! Good for you Tyler! (I doubt he'll make this a habit.)
I’d love the Car Wizard too if he paid me 5k to take the Chevy 😂
Which was a $5,000.00 loss to Hoovie.
@@rogersmith7396 actually it wasn’t. He didn’t have to pay the bill to the Wizard so he basically broke even.
@@thomasgodfrey758 But he went out of pocket $5,000.00 to get it in the first place. He cut his losses not broke even.

Repaint everything riptide blue. The wagon (minus the wood), and the Tahoe.
Hoovie you need a 3/4ton Suburban or Avalanche with the 8.1L big block next!
I doubt most people struggling to pay their credit card debt have excellent credit
Yeahh.. I kinda didn't like that sponsor

QUESTION: How much of a comeback do you have if someone just outright scams you on a sale? (I'm assuming it depends on where the deal was struck? Like, if it's through a legit website then you have more chance of getting your money back, whereas if it's through something like Craig's List you're effed in the a.)
Did you buy it "as is"?
Let's be honest there's no getting your money back from a private seller
@@Philip_J_Hill I've been through small claims. It wasn't hard. The hard part is collecting, some people are professional deadbeats.
"My Big black mistake" i've read that line in the tittle of some porn video somewhere

Wizard got a good deal, free delivery , you have all the headaches and stress, now he gets a descent truck!!
I don’t know why I think he rips everyone off 😂
Because if he did his job correctly from the start, his cheap estimate would have been - "This is a lost cause rust bucket."
@@BA-gn3qb because you can't say that to someone who creates content. More money to be made repairing the rusty truck than buying it and tossing it if it's too far gone. Besides, kind of cool that people that can afford to restore cars like that are doing so
@@trashbandit2449 - A real mechanic would immediately notify a customer if required repairs would exceed the estimate.
Not tell them it was more than double afterwards.
@@BA-gn3qb maybe he did, I don't know. All I know for sure from the video is that $1000 for half an exhaust is a scam
@@trashbandit2449 - How about the $15,000 exhaust he talked Hoovie into, to solve a moaning problem on his Lamborghini? And it didn't solve anything.
Being from the southwest (Albuquerque) that amount of rust is unreal on that SS truck! Around here rust is just on 50s cars lol and yes we get snow but just use sand no salt.
$1,000 for exhaust is insane you can redo the whole system for that
1000 is low for anything beyond a mom and pop muffler shop.
@@BudMasta Apparently, exhaust repairs have skyrocketed since I had it done in 1996.
@@muziklvr7776 Everything also has shop overhead, if they order a muffler for 280 dollars, you will pay 350, if they have to recut something or weld on a hanger, each time theyre charging you another hour of work, which for Wizard is 125 an hour, which is crazy, but, the muffler shop could be adding anywhere from 60-90 dollars per hour added on. Wizard is also taking the fee the exhaust shop charged him and adding overhead to go get the vehicle and adding on time it took up shop space or working hours or both.
My old man had a Silverado just like that. It’s nostalgic for me, just like the JP Jeep is going to be nostalgic for my kiddos. After you sell it to me of course!
When it comes to broken vehicles it's better if you work on them your self, that's why wizard and hoovie both won in this deal. Right on.

This was a good one. The auto detailing add to the show is a good value add to us watchers
The rust was never hidden it just took 18 years
That’s the unfortunate reality of buying a Salt Belt car; it floored me seeing even GMT900s with rusted out beds and rocker panels (dad has an absolutely pristine 2009 Silverado RCSB that has lived in Tennessee it’s entire life) as well as seeing cars that are normally well preserved where we live look like complete basket cases.
Growing up my dad had an 06 Suburban. So many family trips. Almost 200,000 miles and he still daily drives it!
