Did Gamestop really get that big though? I haven't looked into their worth. It's obvious what's killing them though, the internet and widespread connectivity to it.
Charles Ferrari No, Gamestop killed Gamestop. A lot of people, myself included, would rather go to a store where you can browse for games you might like instead of going online where you have to know in advance what you want to buy. Especially when buying used games, which are (or rather, were) less expensive than new games by a factor of 2-10. I worked for Red Bull in the early 2000s while in college. My job was to drive one of those minis around, hand out cans, and collect data on the people we gave the cans to. There were a few other things, but that was mostly it. Never drank it before my second or third interview with them, but we got free cases every pay period and could request more if we were throwing a party. My big takeaway from that time was how data-driven they were. Today that makes sense but I have the feeling they were ahead of the curve.
With two of those years being some of the most dominant seasons ever in F1. Well, until the auto manufacturers threw a fit at the idea of an energy drink company dominating the sport and got the rules changed, resulting in Mercedes dominating even more than Red Bull did and viewing figures falling through the floor.

I grew up in the City of Salzburg in Austria. Dietrich Mateschitzs home city and close to the Red Bull headquarters at Fuschl am See. I experienced the massive growth of Red Bull and the subsequent private, public and Business related investments of Dietrich in and around Salzburg in the past 25 years. (He bought a football stadium plus team, Part of the Salzburg Airport including a few hangars and dozens of ultra rare aircraft, He is operating a TV Station plus any kind of media outlet you could imagine, he bought a hockey stadium plus team and the list goes on and on - thats a huge impact for a (in US standards) tiny city of barley over 150 thousand people) If you have any questions about Red Bull and all of the other businesses Mateschitz operates out of salzburg (There is a Coffee Chain, several Media Companys, A Flight school and many more) I could answer them here. Since he is one of the biggest employers here its almost inevitable to stumble into a short term summer job to gain first work experience as a teenager so I have a little insight on how he operates things.
I've tasted more than 50 different brands of energy drinks and Red Bull is one of the best tasting. In the past few years they started the different varieties besides the sugar free, and out of those i like the yellow one a lot. The yellow and the classic are my favorite energy drinks. In 2013 I worked as photographer on Disney Magic, the first Disney cruise ship, so as usual I always kept can or two of red bull in my fridge, until i got the photo lab manager for a room mate. This dude was drinking whole case of 24 cans in 2-3 days. I had to start buying monster so we kept track of which can belongs to whom and if he drank one of mine, he'd buy me a new one on his next grocery shopping. Now he works in Croatia and doesn't drink it that much :)
I drink red bull because it actually gives me energy. I started drinking it when I started working 12 hour shifts. I think monster tastes better, but they just don’t give me the energy
OhighO Skater I used too but too much sugar, the sugar slows down caffeine and makes it take up to 45mins to take effect, I’ve started drinking 60ml premade preworkouts basically 5 hour energy, all the caffeine no sugar or shite.
As their formula is functionally identical, it's a placebo difference. Maybe you just subconsciously link the taste of redbull to the "energy" feeling, but now you are tolerant to the caffiene you only feel what you expect
genius marketing. I still remember my first Red Bull. I didn't THINK I would want it. One of their guys in a mini cooper gave me a can on the way to one of my classes and I've been a customer ever since. Add that to all the awesome stunts they do and the image they've created is brilliant
Red Bull has two formula 1 teams. It’s not like they just sponsor a car. They design, build, test and race with all their own equipment, save for the Honda engines. And they’re the only team using Honda, so it’s not like they can read over someone else’s shoulder.
The fact that you didn’t mention the football clubs RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg and New York Red Bulls is weird. You also didn’t mention the Formula 1 team. And all the superstars in sports that they sponsor
Also they have many more smaller teams across different tipes of sports. For example in 2018 they became main sponsor of Dota 2 e-sports team named "OG".
I actually tried a lot of different energy drinks out there and it is quite sizable really. Most have an extremely sweetened taste that you can't tolerate drinking too fast and some have a caffeine crash after 2-3 after consumption. I found that Red Bull gave me consistent energy throughout the day without suffering a massive crash, even with the high mark-up, it is worth every dollar than the cheaper brands
As a military veteran, I 100% agree with you. I used to get them shipped to me on the ship because they would be sold old consistently. You can't beat them when performing a 16-20 hour shift.
I'm surprised you never mentioned their Red bull Racing formula 1 team. They entered f1 as a competitor in 2005 and were immediately regarded as a gimmick, an ad without any motorsport heritage. However, Matechitz through sheer determination managed to hire the best of engineers and started a young driver program that until today has churned out more drivers than any other team. This drinks company took only 5 years to become a dominant team, a blink of an eye in formula 1 terms, and dominated the championship for four consecutive years from 2010 to 2013.
when i was in high school, a friend went to Thailand and came back with as many cases of redbull as he could...this was before it was a big thing here in Canada, no one at school had seen it before . He made a killing selling it to the students. I even bought some off him, it was really good ! I liked it more than the stuff we have now. LOL !

I think I am one of the few Americans who knew from the start. I lived in Austria in the mid 90s and was so happy to see it again soon after I moved back to the United States. Anyone remember a few years back when their was a lawsuit against Red Bull because it didn’t really give you wings? So there was a site made and if you bought Red Bull between (I think) 1996 to present, you will be compensated with a free four pack mailed to your door. It was awesome.
You forgot to mention the most amazing thing about Red Bull. They don't make Red Bull. Rauch does. And they do so in 2 factories: Nüziders (Austria) and Widnau (Switzerland). Red Bull is solely a brand/marketing company.

We usually talk while I get my first one down and then I head back for school an hr and a half away in my home city. Went off rambling when I was tryna meme, sorry not sorry.

I feel like you could call up red bull and tell them that you were doing a footrace in the desert with your friend, and as long as you called it an extreme sport they would sponsor you.
You forgot the the Red Bull ad campaign “It gives you wings” ended up as a class action lawsuit and they lost. As one of the results, they could not advertise “It gives you wings”.
I remember that in my country around 2002 red bull was EVERYWERE. Now they lost the market to the polish energy drinks (XL , BLUE Etc..) I still remember the "Red bull gives you wings" ads. As a kid i loved them.
I typically drink monster but occasionally for variety I will drink a Red Bull. I also think it’s important to say that their marketing in the sport of Formula 1 has cemented a place in motorsport fans minds when it comes to energy drinks just like monster has done with ken block.
Red Bull Italian Sodas are honestly one of my favorite kinds of energy drinks, yet they're so simple. Red Bull, flavoring of your choice (I usually go with lemon, green apple, or blue raspberry) and then some cream, it's pretty good.
In 1997 I was a club and rave promoter. The Red Bull car and promo crew would show up between midnight and 2 am slinging their free cans. I connected with the area lead and offered to have their logo on our event flyers and they didn’t just decline, but warn that using their logo in any way would violate their policy. They were 100% committed to the one-on-one promotion by their on-the-ground crew. It worked amazingly and within a few years, they dominated those markets.
In Brazil, Red Bull is more expensive than Monster, and Monster taste better and the distribution of Monster is made by Coca Cola, this make Monster cheaper. Monster costs 6.00 (Brazilian Real) RedBull costs 9.00 (Brazilian Real)

I'm more than a little surprised that you haven't done "How did Coca~Cola get so big?" Up until 1903, they put actual cocaine in their drinks. That alone makes them an interesting topic.
I worked at a nightclub back in the early 2000's and I remember when we first started selling Red Bull. We used to sell the little glass bottles (this was before it was canned) and they even had the Thai writing on them! We used to sell the little bottle by itself, without mixing it with alcohol since there was this rumor that someone people had died from a heart attack for doing just that. I'm not 100% sure, but I think somewhere in the small print of Red Bull is does actually say "Do not mix with alcohol". The glass bottle Red Bull was really sweet too, but we used to fly through cases of that stuff! I also remember there was this old rumour that Taurine used to have traces of Bull urine hahaha! A few years later (circa 2002 or so), we started getting the canned Red Bull we all know and love. There was also this copycat version in Canada called 'Red Rain' (which tasted very similar) and they used to sell a 2 Liter bottle of the stuff! haha We also got offers to sell a copycat 'syrup' version of Red Bull which came in big bags and was dispensed from our pop system, but even that couldn't compete with the Red Bull cans.
I tried it once in middle school in early 2005 when all the energy drinks were cropping up and that was without a doubt one of the most disgusting things I've ever drank. It's trying to be a tangerine and it fails miserably.

Both arguments are good to it's downfall. Their insane heckling of customers combined with the rise of online buying.

With the power of Red Bull, anything is possible
@Patrick Luy yeah, and I can't get free chicken wings as well...

2 successful Formula 1 teams are great promotion.
Not just a top F1 and a mid level F1 team, but also the F1 track in Austria
I think you mean one successful Formula 1 team.
Also 4 years of dominating the championship. 2010-2013.
With two of those years being some of the most dominant seasons ever in F1. Well, until the auto manufacturers threw a fit at the idea of an energy drink company dominating the sport and got the rules changed, resulting in Mercedes dominating even more than Red Bull did and viewing figures falling through the floor.
The cars look great but too bad F1 sucks. V12 >>>>> V6 any day. They'll go to V4 or inline 4 one day and people will still defend it because of muh emissions.

Yeah these days Redbull is more about F1 and skiing and motocross and all that shit versus the drink
That's how they became big. They focused on Sport as a marketing
They're big because they're one of the few energy drinks that dont taste like cough syrup and acid.

@Don Clark I like Red Bull because it tastes like medicine lol.
(He bought a football stadium plus team, Part of the Salzburg Airport including a few hangars and dozens of ultra rare aircraft, He is operating a TV Station plus any kind of media outlet you could imagine, he bought a hockey stadium plus team and the list goes on and on - thats a huge impact for a (in US standards) tiny city of barley over 150 thousand people)
If you have any questions about Red Bull and all of the other businesses Mateschitz operates out of salzburg (There is a Coffee Chain, several Media Companys, A Flight school and many more) I could answer them here.

I dont think it's ever about the taste. Humans like being part of something bigger, and brand loyalty is a way of achieving that
Very well said.
Nah I just like the taste of red bull.
I like the taste but many people say that it tastes like shit
So bassicaly How did Red Bull get its Wings 😁👌
Guarana.
Gareth That’s a pretty good idea. I think I’m going to give it a try
As their formula is functionally identical, it's a placebo difference. Maybe you just subconsciously link the taste of redbull to the "energy" feeling, but now you are tolerant to the caffiene you only feel what you expect
?? Red Bull has less caffeine than a Monster or a Rockstar though
Red bull also gives you heart attack.
yasss ive been looking forward to this video all morning!
How'd you like it Sarah?
Why?
genius marketing. I still remember my first Red Bull. I didn't THINK I would want it. One of their guys in a mini cooper gave me a can on the way to one of my classes and I've been a customer ever since. Add that to all the awesome stunts they do and the image they've created is brilliant
Funny, I can't taste the brilliant image. All I get is coconut penis.
I buy it, because of their ethical way of conducting their partnership.
Yeah, that partnership was wholesome. None of them puts the other in the dirt, and Chaleo's son even got 2%.

I think you should have mentioned their ownership of many different football clubs with the likes of rb Leipzig, rb Salzburg and red bull New York
And a Formula 1 team, and a NASCAR team.
I agree
Idk if it's the same in English, but Red Bull it's the biggest sponsor of rap battles in Spanish.
It really wasn't the focus here. Might revisit this topic later on in a way that focuses on how big they are today.
Don't forget the hockey teams in Munich and Salzburg.
Red Bull has two formula 1 teams. It’s not like they just sponsor a car. They design, build, test and race with all their own equipment, save for the Honda engines. And they’re the only team using Honda, so it’s not like they can read over someone else’s shoulder.
At least Peter Griffin once felt like he just got home.
The fact that you didn’t mention the football clubs RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg and New York Red Bulls is weird.
You also didn’t mention the Formula 1 team.
And all the superstars in sports that they sponsor
Apparently the Leipzig fans with their communist history didn't like their team being used as an advertising vehicle by big business.
Also they have many more smaller teams across different tipes of sports. For example in 2018 they became main sponsor of Dota 2 e-sports team named "OG".
And RB Brasil and RB Ghana
Probably because Red Bull doesn't sponsor the NFL or NBA
I actually tried a lot of different energy drinks out there and it is quite sizable really. Most have an extremely sweetened taste that you can't tolerate drinking too fast and some have a caffeine crash after 2-3 after consumption. I found that Red Bull gave me consistent energy throughout the day without suffering a massive crash, even with the high mark-up, it is worth every dollar than the cheaper brands
As a military veteran, I 100% agree with you. I used to get them shipped to me on the ship because they would be sold old consistently. You can't beat them when performing a 16-20 hour shift.
Huh... No wonder the early Red Bull commercials in the US were decidedly "European" and weird. LOL
This does not actually give you wings smh my head
For those who don’t know. “smh my head” means “shaking my head my head
That's why the commercial says "Wiiiiings" and not "wings"
Wait, you're cheating on monster energy!
How do u reply to things so fast
@Alex & Rah No. www.snopes.com/fact-check/red-bulls-wings/. People who read news headlines and not the articles are the worst.
LOL !
Red bull knows how to advertise it.
Those commercials always made me want to buy some
I was hoping you’d talk about the football clubs owned by Red Bull. They’re quite interesting

Pretty neat, something about a company from my country. I wonder how many people know Red Bull actually is an Austrian company and made in Austria
Yes, I used to think it was a Thai company till now.
I think I am one of the few Americans who knew from the start. I lived in Austria in the mid 90s and was so happy to see it again soon after I moved back to the United States. I showed all my friends how to make a vodka red bull. It's a pretty cool moment in history, as very rarely does something like that come from Austria.
@Penta are there any other Austrian companies?
Bart Simpson ™ Oh plenty.
There's Magna, they produce cars and automotive parts. They make BMW's and Mercedes for example.
Voest Alpine, a very large steel foundry.
Swarovski, producers of glas crystals, jewelry, scopes and stuff like that.
OMV, a oil and gas producer.
Borealis makes plastics.
Steyr-Mannlicher, they manufacturer guns. Such as the Steyr or the Steyr Elite.
Steyr also combined with Austro-Daimler-Puch back in the 30's and made cars and trucks of all sorts. They event sold all their stuff throught the late 80's and up until the begging of 2000. What was left over became Magna.
Oh, and on the topic of guns, we have one of the biggest pistols in the world, Glock.
Don't think there's much to say there haha.
That's some of the few big companies in Austria, hope I could help
Mein Österreichischer Geselle 😉
Anyone remember a few years back when their was a lawsuit against Red Bull because it didn’t really give you wings? So there was a site made and if you bought Red Bull between (I think) 1996 to present, you will be compensated with a free four pack mailed to your door. It was awesome.
Yes, that's why it's now "wiiings" instead of wings.
I think there was an option for money instead of a 4-pack. But it was only a couple dollars.
They also own multiple professional football soccer clubs including the New York Red Bulls.
You forgot to mention the most amazing thing about Red Bull. They don't make Red Bull. Rauch does. And they do so in 2 factories: Nüziders (Austria) and Widnau (Switzerland). Red Bull is solely a brand/marketing company.
Seems you are wrong, Red bull does create the "base material mixture," and Rauch bottles it. www.chancenland.at/en/company/red-bull-service-gmbh-2/
red bull is an inspirational brand. it hit me when i realised how much they do as a brand

ADHD ! Nuff said.
How most of us in the Army operate too, I'd be a regular at a gas station near my units base. Every Monday morning around 5 AM I'd buy a pack of Pall Mall blues and a 4 Pack of Redbull, the owner knew a lot about me and had my stuff out and ready when I pulled up (I have an old truck it's obnoxiously loud he knows it's me). We usually talk while I get my first one down and then I head back for school an hr and a half away in my home city. Went off rambling when I was tryna meme, sorry not sorry.

I’m personally a red bull addict, I love all of the flavors that they’ve made over the past few years. I also think it’s genius how Red Bull comes out with seasonal flavors. Every time I see a new flavor I HAVE to try it.

I don't really like "energy drinks" because I have never found one that tasted good, didn't give me an upset stomach and make me want to throw up.
Have you tried Rock Star's fruit punch flavor? Sugar or sugar free version. It doesn't taste like an energy drink at all. I don't like Red Bull or Monster but Rock Star makes some good things.

I typically drink monster but occasionally for variety I will drink a Red Bull. I also think it’s important to say that their marketing in the sport of Formula 1 has cemented a place in motorsport fans minds when it comes to energy drinks just like monster has done with ken block.
Forgot the 4x F1 drivers and constructors championships... You know, only the biggest and most prestigious motorsport in the world.
Don't forget their 2 F1 teams and their F1 circuit on Austria (red bull ring)
Omg, i've just realized that Kratingdaeng is redbull!
In Brazil, Red Bull is more expensive than Monster, and Monster taste better and the distribution of Monster is made by Coca Cola, this make Monster cheaper.

I've considered KB Toys as a topic. My video about Big Lots talks about them a fair amount but it could be expanded upon.
I'm more than a little surprised that you haven't done "How did Coca~Cola get so big?"
Up until 1903, they put actual cocaine in their drinks.
There was also this copycat version in Canada called 'Red Rain' (which tasted very similar) and they used to sell a 2 Liter bottle of the stuff! haha
We also got offers to sell a copycat 'syrup' version of Red Bull which came in big bags and was dispensed from our pop system, but even that couldn't compete with the Red Bull cans.
