I had a wolf breed as my first dog. Her father was a full-blooded Timber wolf, and her mother was Alaskan Malamute and husky. She had golden brown, amber colored eyes and a mostly white coat with tan and grey on her back and ears.
I’d love to see an episode about the Karelian Bear Dog! They are known for being “untrainable” and many people even refer to them as one of the most difficult dog breeds to keep. I grew up with one and must admit she was probably better behaved than our German Shepherd and White Swiss Shepherd. She always walked off leash, we didn’t even bother to put a collar on her when she was older (and btw we live in Berlin, so lots of traffic and people). She was an absolute dream dog. I think many people would be interested in an episode about them as it seems like they aren’t very popular outside of Scandinavia :)
Yes I would love to see an episode about the Karelian bear dog!! I have a Yakutian Laika, and he is black and white like one. But not as bulky. I think much easier to handle for me than a KBD. But yeah I would love to see an episode on them!!!
I've never even heard of that breed. I'm gonna look that up. Are there alot of those dogs, or are they on the decline? Myself, I had a couple Doberman dogs in the 80s and had never heard of pitbulls then. (BC Canada). I noticed in the 90s, a huge decline in Dobermans and Rottweilers while pitbulls were on the rise. I don't like those dogs. Not because of fear, but I just think they're ugly. I love dogs whose faces resemble their ancestor wolf, or ones that are fluffy and full of fur. It's sad to see breeds go extinct to make way for some new fad breed. Now I'm off to Google the Karelian Bear dog. Have a great day! 👋😊
@@Kasonas KBD's are intelligent, proud and sensitive. There is nothing difficult with them, you just need to understand their origin as primitive dog and treat them with kindness and respect.
It's also worth noting that the Chukchi often didn't stake their dogs outside at night. Siberians were allowed to sleep in the tents where they could help keep children warm in the Siberian nights. It's thought that that's part of the reason why the breed has a real affinity for children and why they tend to be so cuddly.
If I remember right, they would stake their dogs out when it was the warmer months to deter bears, Bears would see them as a wolf pack and steer clear, in the colder months the bears were hibernating and they brought them in for warmth.
I did the Embark DNA test for my adopted Husky to find out she is 100% Siberian Husky to my delight. But it saddened me to think someone had to give her up at 6 years old. I don't know what the life circumstances were but she is now a part of my motley pack forever. She is not part wolf but she has a lot of wolf traits per Embark, no matter, I love her no matter what! 🐺💖🥰
We also just adopted a Husky who was surrendered she is 4 years old. Did the Embark DNA test, surprise she is 100% Siberian Husky. I also felt sad for her and maybe the family who gave her up. She is the only girl in house with 3 brothers who have some Husky in their DNA. I have only seen Husky’s with white faces, she looks like the dog in these videos, dark mask. The lady who does these videos called them the “Super Models” of the Husky world looks like what she called a “Show Husky.”She is beautiful we just adore her, very sweet. The same we would love her no matter what. ❤❤

This video was an excellent documentary on wolfs, huskies, and wolf dogs, it may even save the lives of some unfortunate huskies with misinformed owners! Good job! Some beautiful husky photos in the video. I miss my husky, he was my first dog. Since then I have had Aussie shepherds, beagles, and even a Shitzu, who was a lovable character who thought he was my shadow.
i had a wolf malamute mix, i never told people that i didn't know well that she was part wolf. the reason why was that if by chance she ever nipped at someone they could get the law involved and she would have been put down just for having "aggressive wolf" DNA and not be treated fairly as a normal dog that just happened to bite someone.
Very educational video. As a person that has a wooly Siberian husky. Her name is Luna. She is almost all white, but has some darker markings, she looks like a wolf, she has the snout for it, but not the head. However she kind of looks like she has malamute in her, from her tail, her tail comes up over her body and, floofs out like one. And her eyes are brown. Even though we know she is a Siberian, we still want to do a DNA test on her. Just for the hell of it
Huskies have closer wolf descent in them than most dogs tho. The only few pure dog breeds that have more wolf in them are the Sheba Inu, malamutes, Czechoslovakian wolfdog and maybe one or two more.
They still share 99% of wolf DNA though. It just goes to show how much the smallest difference in DNA can produce change that make similar but not "it".

The video was interesting but that comment caused me to not take her seriously anymore. Plus I know huskies had wolf in them at some point. I don't have a dog but I'll call my dog whatever I want. It'll be in my possession and people can mind their business about what I call it lol.
I really thought I had a wolf-dog for years. She acted so much like a wolf, looked the part, and everyone I met who had wolves or wolf-dogs, said they agreed. Got the DNA test and she's just a very interesting looking mixture. 80% Alaskan Malamute, 20% Siberian Husky, very dark red and white coloring, nearly 100 pounds. She was very tall, long legs, long snout, one amber/yellow eye, one blue.
Love your content. Just subscribed from Northern Illinois just south of Wisconsin. I use to live about20 miles south of here and I came across a coyote which to that point I'd never seen up close and personal. I wasn't even sure what was running towards me lol. Everything happened so quickly as in a movie. The coyote flipped my fence and was coming straight towards me. Thankfully I remained still and looked at the animal and he took back off from where he came from. Btw,this happened in broad daylight. I'm sure the coyote had been frightened causing him to leap into my yard. I saw him, or another coyote the next year and caught it on video. He actually walked up to my front door and just stared and sniffed.
My husband and I have over 31 years of experience with wolves, Malamutes and Siberian Huskies! My very first dog wasn’t really a dog at all but a Malamute/Timberwolf. I had him for 11years and after he passed I met my husband through his kennels. He had Malamutes and Siberian Huskies but also one White Arctic Wolf, three Red Wolves and three Timberwolves. My interest was in the Malamutes at the time. I got the male and female from his Malamute kennel. The male was a malamute and the female was a malamute/red wolf. Since I already had experience and knowledge of wolves, I also knew that while most wolves in general do behave particular ways, the temperament varies with different types of wolf species, eg. an Arctic wolf might have a different temperament compared to a grey wolf or a Timberwolf etc., My female also looked the part of a Malamute. Her temperament was of the sweetest nature but she mainly took the lead at being the alpha around other dogs in the kennel. Her son, who was a red and white Malamute was also a good alpha but wouldn’t come up against his mom. After years of raising the Malamutes and Siberians, I can say that these are awesome animals to have. Because of our knowledge and experience with the breed, I can confidently say that while Siberians are stubborn as some would classify them, we tend to look at their stubbornness in a different way. What some would call stubbornness, we call it a slight difference of opinion with how the dog perceives what you want it to do. Believe me, I owned the first Malamute/Timberwolf as a first time dog owner and if some think a Siberian husky is stubborn, try a strong willed Malamute/Tiberwolf! There’s nothing more headstrong than that combination, I don’t believe. We recently loss the last female Siberian husky from my husband’s kennels. My son took over the brother and sister to her. I got her as a puppy and she was the sweetest girl you could ever own. We are getting two more Siberians soon but she was the end of an era to our kennels and I wouldn’t have changed anything now that I look back on it!
Anneka, thank you very much for telling the story of the origins of the wolf and his descendants in this beautiful and very interesting video! You are a great professional and you have a great talent! Very compliments!👍👍👍👍💯😍🔥🐺
I went to West Hills HIgh School in San Diego, and we called ourselves "The Wolfpack", so they bought 3 Huskies and had students keep them in their homes during the year.
I have never understood why people think that Huskies look like Wolves. Sometimes having the same colorations and 4 legs is about the only similarities I see. They have a complete difference coat, structure and behavior. Also all dogs have eyebrow muscles that give that classic "puppy dog" face but wolves do not possess these facial muscles. (I have also actually wondered in high percentage Wolfdogs whether they have these?)
So true! A friend of mine always said that his husky looked like a wolf while she had raven black and white coloration (never seen on real life wolves). Meanwhile my all black gsd weights way more than his husky and I've heard people calling him "wolf like" and it makes my friend mad hahaha. He got himself a dog and thought it was a wolf hybrid or something like that but ended up having naturally underweight pupper. Huskies are beautiful on their own. I find comparisons to wolves always dumb because then husky look seems always more artificial.
Had 2 husky/wolves living in Northern Ontario, Canada! Also a malamute! It does happen! They are very protective of their owners. When I had the Alaskan malamute/wolf? That dog wouldn't let anyone near me, even my sisters. That dog passed and? Got 2 husky/wolves. Again, very protective! Had a little terrier before them and the husky/wolves watched over the terrier, me and my mom. Sadly we had to get rid of the husky/wolves as we moved to the city..... I miss them.
@lowland Shepherd Well, siberian husky is a real dog breed. Alaskan "huskies" are basically mongrels and made for dog races. Alaskan "husky" can contain almost any genetics, their only function has been to be fast runners.

I have a Mutt, probably Husky German Shepherd etc mix. (One of the sibling pups had embark DNA testing & had Malamute too). Growing up I had a GSD-Akita-Timber Wolf 🐺 in Canada and he was wonderful with us kids and with guarding the farm animals. He was HUGE and killed raccoons who tried to get our chickens. Very pack oriented and loved the family to be together. Lived 16 years. Never really thought about the wolf part but I still prefer dogs who look “wolfy” to dogs who don’t, like boxer, pug etc. I like when my Husky cross howls because it reminds me of my childhood dog. Part wolf but still the most loving loyal dog and definitely not the scary creature some people believe they are.
Loved this episode of course! Tho wished they also talked about life with one of these types of dogs. When i rescued my husky (mix?) From a family who could no longer keep up with her, They said at the end as we were parting away...ughh by the way her grandpa had 30% wolf. I was like ok?? Part of me wasnt sure if he was joking or not. Long story short, they picked us to adopt her (I've been a professional petsitter, dog trainer and dog walker for 13 years so they knew i could keep up with her and give her the life that she needed) and yes there are somethings where im like she's soo primative! She's a whole other animal compared to a dog. But, there are some traits she has where I'm like dang they need to incorporate this and that back into the gene pool of dogs. As far as wolf dog...we don't tell many people. People get weirded out or think she's vicious or destructive but she's soo far from that. Usually we just say she's a husky mix or a northern inuit. One day we'll splurge and do the embark dna kit. We did the wisdom panel on my other dog and i don't think it was all that accurate. She does make a great pack dog. She's my red dog's emotional support animal but she's also great with my clients dogs too.
As always great job. Education is always the key to keeping people informed. My great Aunt Eva "Short" Seeley always liked her agouties. Keep up with informing everyone. Again great job
When my 1 year old Beagle/Dachshund mix and Jack Russell/Beagle mix boys start growling and play fighting hard, I tell them; "Knock it off, you guys think you're baby wolves or something?!" :)
Huskys are different from most dogs. Picky eaters. Hard to train because they're so hyperactive and not food motivated.. Very predatory on the little varmints... know no boundaries unless you create them.
I had a male wolf come up to my female dog out in the wild, he asked do you have any wolf in you? She replied no. He replied would you like some. Dirty wolf 🐺 🥸😂
In Spite of decreased cranial size modern dogs are extremely attuned to human beings, more than we deserve I'd say. They're capable of great acts of seeing emotional empathy. They're uncannily able to read our emotional facial expressions. They understand pointing and can predict our every action. That's why the whole idea of "service 🐕🦺 dog" is ever broadening
Love love love you pointed out that many of "my dog is a wolf" people actually are not doing anything good for the pets, since in their search for that wolf dog they can abandon pets for not complying their expectation
Huskys get put to sleep because of morons who think they are pretty but don't realize how much work and attention they need. Usually at about 1 to 1.5 years old during their "terrible twos" when they can be very destructive. The dog pounds are full of them. Huskys are really a basket of contradictions.
I am recieving my second husky tomorrow. Lovely dogs and actually trainable. Full disclosure, my first husky is a show line husky.. this next one is too. My wonderful rottweiler-shepherd mix on my thumbnail passed away in his sleep 3 days ago so there is room for a new little guy that needs a home badly.
Good luck! You’ll love the huskies but even Kal my show line is trainable up to a limit which is prey drive. It is still risky to walk these dogs off leash as the prey drive is absolutely nothing you’ll have seen before. Especially after having a Rottweiler shepherd which are some of the most responsive and trainable dogs in the world. I adore my huskies but I know never to 💯 trust them. You’ll need high fences and remember your recall won’t always work. They are escape artists and very independent. I have them because I love them for what they are and understand that I can only train them up to a point. Good luck x
It is well known that huskies are ancient dog breeds, descending from the same extinct wolf that the modern day wolf comes from, so they're brothers in that regard. They do share the common dna with wolf, but not the modern particularities, for obvious reasons. That being said, they do have high pray instinct, pack instinct, less barking and more howling to express themselves, a lot of curiosity, they're very territorial towards other animals and the wolf like summer/winter coat structure, all of these are similar with the modern day wolf. The fact that huskies have been domesticated and the wolf needed to evolve in order to be self sufficient and survive is where the difference starts, but these ancient similarities come from the same "ancient father wolf", so yeah, they're actually quite similar. Judging by this video, I should see more similarities between a chihuahua and my 2 huskies, and there's almost none.
I think that’s where people get confused. They’re an ancient breed which weren’t bread to rid of all the behavior in a wolf. I have a Shepsky and while she looks like a wolf to many (a very small wolf lol) I know that she is not a wolf dog. I can attest though that Gerbarian Shepskies are such a fun mix.
Some dogs look more related to African wildlife dogs or hyenas than wolves. While husky, malamute looks way more related to wolves than African wild dogs or hyenas
I always find it a little annoying that someone without a Husky tells me that my dog is more wolf than others. I mean whatever you say bud, an ancient dog breed is an ancient dog breed but 40.000 years of evolution is still 40.000 years of evolution, no matter if it's a Husky or a Chihuahua.
I used an Embark test and it showed my dog is 84% Siberian husky, 12% Malamute, and 4% German Shepard. And then something else on the test said it was 2% wolf like, not really sure what that means.
It's amazing how the huski has been unchanged for so long. One of the purest dog breeds on Earth. This is how dogs were meant to look, without so much cross-breeding over the centuries: like wolves. Also, since a huski has been so unchanged, it probably has more ancient wolf DNA than the average pet dog, but it's still such a small amount that it's insignificant. They have nowhere as much wolf DNA as a wolfdog, so are nowhere near as aggressive natured.
I was walking my rust colored husky on the seaside walk in Monterey California when a Japanese family approached, both kids pointed at Monty and yelled at their parents: “Look! A wolf!” Monty took the accusation in stride. 😉
Is there any appropriate way to train a husky wolf when they are over 2 1/2 years old? I don't know her genetics but it has been told this is her breed. She will only listen part of the time, but she is very jumpy and hyper.
What I see and read, that there are a lot of husky's breed with Malamutes. And they are very intelligent, there are even that almost can speak as 'hoomans' 😄
We've got a Pyrenees/Husky/Malamute mix that tested as about 2% gray wolf! That little smidge of wolf actually come from his malamute parentage, not husky. Wolf matings happen with LGD breeds too. Wolfdog puppies rarely perform well at the functions at the owner needs the dogs for, and make terrible pets (for most people), so they have usually been culled. Staking a dog in heat out is a terrible way to bring wolves close to camp and possibly get the dog killed. I seriously doubt that was a common practice.
I have just adopted a young female siberian husky (confirmed pure breed), she is a real cutie and extremely friendly, trainable and if you respect her, she obeys immediately. She is also quite intelligent and extremely quite not a sound only to attract attention on friend when greeting. At 6 months this young female weight 22 Kg and 58 cm and the shoulder, she has huge legs. Since she was 3 months old, I am walking her 3 hours/day: one hour in the morning sniffing and 2 hours in the evening sniffing and jogging (we live i Singapore and try to avoid the heat of the day). I am a little bit confused regarding the size and weight of my little girl as she does not fit any standard - could it be that the few wolf-like gene she has overtook and is growing more like a wolf would or are the grow charts for huskies incorrect/inaccurate?
Huskies are high maintenance, but lots of fun. My silly boy makes me smile every day.
I love how talkative huskies are.

Gorgeous, greetings from here in Australia 🌏🐨🙏🤟
WOW. This is soo cool I pray u get more subs
Love all your animal watch videos about dogs and other animals continue to make more
I have a 8 week old husky and he is beautiful.
I,
Thank you for your video. This has ❤helped me a lot with my dog.
As always great job. Education is always the key to keeping people informed. My great Aunt Eva "Short" Seeley always liked her agouties. Keep up with informing everyone. Again great job
Very informative video!
Thank you! Great information!
...precious mixed breed:
wolf+husky= 😍
When my 1 year old Beagle/Dachshund mix and Jack Russell/Beagle mix boys start growling and play fighting hard, I tell them; "Knock it off, you guys think you're baby wolves or something?!" :)
Wow!!!! Amazing and informative video mam 👍👍👏👏👏😍
Thank you ....love my husky 💜🦊
Thank you so much for the informations 💖🍀👍
Huskys are different from most dogs. Picky eaters. Hard to train because they're so hyperactive and not food motivated.. Very predatory on the little varmints... know no boundaries unless you create them.
My husky behave so much life a wolf compared to other huskies but obviously I know she is a dog 🥰
Same with mine 😀 and her coat is also very wolfish. Eventhough she's a siberian husky
I had a male wolf come up to my female dog out in the wild, he asked do you have any wolf in you? She replied no. He replied would you like some. Dirty wolf 🐺 🥸😂
Lovely breed of dogs. Super cute as a puppy too. Beautiful
Anneka thank you for telling me a Husky has a smaller skull and brain
Tonight! Find out if Huskys realy like hairspray or are the well trIaned. (Cute dog btw)❤
What a gorgeous husky u had. Where u buy them?
From show lines
@@Animal-Watch awesome. Who is the breeder?
Very fascinating!
I did some searching and apparently my dog is an Alaskan husky
So the breeder lied
That was So interesting. luv from UK 🇬🇧
I only subscribed cause her face is pretty (and cause she helps me understand my husky pup more)
I am recieving my second husky tomorrow.
Good luck x
Love this
It is well known that huskies are ancient dog breeds, descending from the same extinct wolf that the modern day wolf comes from, so they're brothers in that regard. Judging by this video, I should see more similarities between a chihuahua and my 2 huskies, and there's almost none.
love your show ive learned so much about dogs
My grandmother had a wolf dog 50 years ago and it was pretty friendly, but then one day she had to let it go.
Where can one buy the embark test in the UK and pay in £?
During WW2, the German Shepherd was mixed with the wolf.
What are you doing with those animals ?
I think that’s where people get confused. They’re an ancient breed which weren’t bread to rid of all the behavior in a wolf. I have a Shepsky and while she looks like a wolf to many (a very small wolf lol) I know that she is not a wolf dog. I can attest though that Gerbarian Shepskies are such a fun mix.
What food you feed your husky?
They are beautiful dogs!
Some dogs look more related to African wildlife dogs or hyenas than wolves. While husky, malamute looks way more related to wolves than African wild dogs or hyenas
there's a photo of togo, what a loyal dog
I always find it a little annoying that someone without a Husky tells me that my dog is more wolf than others. I mean whatever you say bud, an ancient dog breed is an ancient dog breed but 40.000 years of evolution is still 40.000 years of evolution, no matter if it's a Husky or a Chihuahua.
who's that other dog?
I'd love to know difference between Alaskan malamute and a basic malamute. Had both, shame I can't attach photo's.
I used an Embark test and it showed my dog is 84% Siberian husky, 12% Malamute, and 4% German Shepard. And then something else on the test said it was 2% wolf like, not really sure what that means.
Ganz toller Bericht. 🐺❤👍
👍 interesting video
Can you do a video on XXL Bullies
He he good for him 🙌😀
6:54 of this video: Is that a Wolf with blue-green eyes?
absolute beauty
My husky has yellow eyes, i like them so much cause they look similar to those of the wolves
My husky doesn't smell at all and almost never barks
they are so beautiful
Beautiful 😍
Anneka is so beautiful and stunning! 🥹
Is there any appropriate way to train a husky wolf when they are over 2 1/2 years old? I don't know her genetics but it has been told this is her breed. She will only listen part of the time, but she is very jumpy and hyper.
The Husky train's you into thinking your training them.
Wolfdog is best friend :)
Hey hey - I loves my Disney films :)
Do an alaskan noble companion dog
U should do knpv dogsA
my husky has malamute in him and his embark results have an 8.5% wolfiness score
Can you cover the American Alastian breed?
