wow that is an extremely impressive vault a multiple combination system in conjunction with the wheels and i love how many security pins there are. ^_^
I did the weight calculations. I guess the door has a diameter of 2.5m 8 feet. And a thickness of 75cm. Made of just mild steel, weighs about 30 tons (63,713lbs). I could be wrong about the thickness and it could be 1 metre, so it would be about give or take 38,533kg or 85,000lbs.
I’m pretty sure it would be some type of stainless/ hardened steel because mild steel would rust and couldn’t be raw like it is so that’s probably why it weighs more because stainless weighs more than mild steel. At least that’s my guess lol I’d still love to have one of theses in my house lol
You should be able to close it with a single hand/finger. They balance those things really well and a simple nudge and it should close completely on it's own. Definitely would advise against slamming it like you did.
it has been serviced since this video. it was not oiled for about 20 years and bearings where dry. hence the force needed to close. it does close a lot easier now and will make a new video in the future.
Don't stick your fingers between the wall and the door during the closing. I only accidentally let fall my small safe's door on my thumb and it's still sore 2 days after. So I can't imagine the damage in similar scaled up circumstances.
50t? I mean it is really impressive, but with a Diameter in an estimated 2m and 0.8m in thickness it woukd be around 2.51 qubic Meters of Steel. even If it had no air gaps and with a Mass of 7.98 grams per cm³ I geht around 20 metric tons of wheigt. So ist my math wrong, or is it made Out of Thungsten. Well even that would'nt be enough right?
They should make lighter doors with the same type of security or have a key switch to automatically close and open it and when you release the key it will stop
Did he say the door weighs 50 tons?! o_O That MUST be incorrect. That's 100,000 lbs/45359kgs. There's no way! I decided to do some digging. The avg weight of a mid-sized car is ~3500 lbs/1500 kgs. That comes out to ~28 mid-sized cars packed into that one door. There's no way that's true. Can someone chime in on this?
To know how much the door weighs only the outer diameter I believe 2 meters or more and the thickness I think 50cm and calculate, that is massive, full steel up to the edge of the closures is not structural filled with quartz cement gaffite tungsten splinters etc. it would be enough to install a good electronic combination lock, those with mechanical discs can be easily opened with stepper motors and arduino or specific equipment without burglary, those with digital combination no, I would leave the 3 mechanical time locks!
50 tons?!? HAHAHAHAHA. No, bullshit. The blast doors on Cheyyene Mountain are about four times bigger than this and they "only" weigh 25 tons. There's no way in hell this door weighs anywhere near that. I looked up an equivalent model, the VSA 360 round vault door, and it only weighs four metric tonnes.
Actually this article states this door is made from a modern composite Hercvite and only 20cm thick. The door shown here is many times thicker and made from old fashioned very heavy solid steel.
While the door itself does NOT weigh in at 50 tons, this is not a modern composite door, it is structural steel, and once you take in for the weight of the entire installation, wall included, it does infact weigh nearly 50 tons.

Yeah there is no way that door weighs 50 tons
There's NO WAY that door or similar sized doors weigh that MUCH no where near 50 TONS .

at 0:38 the guy estimates it's 50 tons, but that isn't a definitive answer. :>
doors like that weigh about 20 tons, so not light but not 50 tons.
Man, vault tec has just improved on their vaults
idk why but vaults look awesome
[Atomic] you damn straight they do
Yeah, I wish I could have that 😆
Would have loved to have heard the sound of it closing if it wasn't for everyone yapping through the whole thing.
i have if you let it close too fast it shakes the whole building. the whole building is poured concrete.
It's supposed to close very softly.

now show me how to unlock lol

how much it cost to build one of those
