I like how they used footage from his deleted dance routine from The Wizard of Oz because of how it showcases his talent. We're lucky it's one of the surviving remnants of deleted Oz material.
The footage was actually discovered in the MGM vaults in 1973 and included in the 1985 retrospective film "That's Dancing". Odd that the other cut segments did not resurface there, too (e.g. "The Jitterbug", "Ding-Dong! Emerald City" etc.) A great treasure.
He took huge risk when he swapped roles with Buddy Ebsen. Bolger's contract with MGM stipulated that he had to agree to whatever role he was given by the studio and that he didn't have right to say anything about it. Luckely for him, Ebsen didn't object to switching the roles so studio allowed eventually. If they didn't agree, he would be in alot of trouble since Louis Mayer was the most powerful guy in Hollywood then and could have destroyed his career because of it. Wouldn't be the first nor the last time he would do that.

@@NathanF11989 You probably heard the back story that Buddy Ebsen was originally set to do the Tin Man but had an allergic reaction to the to the aluminum makeup & the role went to Jack Haley Sr.In the end it worked out for both gents in the long run.Also Judy Garland's daughter Lizard Minelli was briefly married to Jack Sr.'s son Jack Jr.
His scarecrow role will remain always and forever!

I was 9 years old when he died. Later, in college, I developed a real appreciation for him. He remains one of my favorites.
