Your planning and sticking to the budget worked well. What a great haul, even on Canada prices. Vanessa, in case someone hasn't told you today, you are a dedicated, beautiful & loving mamma. Hope you are feeling well in these last weeks of pregnancy. Blessings sweet girl.
I just wanted to tell you that things won’t always be this way. I was a single mom with 2 kids for a bit and I completely understand the struggle. You’re an amazing mom and person in general. God has your back! 💜✝️
That’s so true , everything changes in time. Her life can be everything she dreams of. God will give you your hearts desires in time if you focus on him. It’s easy to lose hope when it’s happening to you. But there is so much room for hope. I know she will one day she will have it all. ❤
I would buy 3% milk and split it between two containers then fill those with water to give me 1 1\2% milk (almost two%). Powdered milk was cheaper buy it had to be really cold or you could taste the difference. The kids got milk with meals or before bed but the rest of the time it was water in their own cup. They drank it easier in their very own cup that they chose at the store. When training my granddaughter she was into Diego but they didn't make a girl version of Diego underware so she wore boys! It made it easier to keep her favorite underware dry and when that control was mastered we discovered pink underware, her new favorite color!
Another tip, use the store apps. If your store has a grocery online option. I make my lists in that app and that gives me my total before I even get to the store! And I use my phone in the store and remove each item from my virtual cart as I put it in my actual cart, like crossing it off the list. And the store apps typically tell you what aisle things are in that is SO HELPFUL when shopping quickly with children.
I buy all the "convenience" foods too, but you can save money by grating block cheese yourself, slicing whole mushrooms, or cubing cheese into little containers for a snack. Sometimes, it appears to be equal in price, but you are paying more per kg for the convenience.
Great 👍🏻 haul , it’s important to budget for food or anything you need food prices are so high , it’s important to make a list of the food you plan on cooking it really saves money 💴.
New sub ❤ I love watching your channel. It makes me appreciate the small things in life when it gets hard. You’re so appreciative in the things you receive. Wish I had extra to help you out but I’m a single person with a single income 😢. Your an amazing mom and the more reason I watch is Penelope is the cutest little princess ever. Love the bond you both have and can’t wait to see the new baby girl.
How I shopped when my kids were small, except I had no one to watch my kids, they behaved though. I had my three kids far apart, so I never stressed. Women are so so strong and dependent. I enjoy your single mom videos. My daughter had fun shopping with me, at the end, we calculated it all up, if we had a bit left over, she could get something special.
Great grocery haul Vanessa! I can see your point of only buying the quantity of food that you need for the week to stay on budget. I think you got a good variety of food to have for the week, take care🙂
If you’re trying to save money, buy a reusable k cup pod. Then you can buy bagged coffee and put it into the pod. Works out about the same but you get more for your money.
Hi Vanessa I’m a newer subscriber. I just wanted to say I really like your content and I think you’re doing a great job! Also your transition with getting the bags and coming back from the store was great!!
It’s so sad that your daughters dad wants nothing to do with her, and she is so sweet and a smart little girl, it breaks my heart when I hear this, I myself have the same problem, his dad never wanted to be in his life either 😢 but you are doing an amazing job of being a great mom, I can hardly wait until the new miss bean is born, and I just subscribed to your channel today, so take care and all the best❤❤
I’m shocked (but pleased) to see what you were able to get for $200. I’m also Canadian and live in Ontario, and the food costs have gone absolutely bonkers! We just got a new Food Basics and I LOVE it! They might not always have everything, but they have enough and their prices are terrific!
Sticking to a list is a great idea. Those'Deals' normally hook you into spending more than you needed. Good job!!. I just wrote my list for Thanksgiving dinner....
You did great with the grocery haul. We have a little more wiggle room in our budget but I still plan 4 dinners per week and buy the supplies for those dinners. We eat the leftovers from another dinner or lunch. I know roughly what we like for breakfast/lunch. Groceries are so damn expensive, you really have to plan.
I’m proud that you stuck to your budget. Great job. I didn’t think that was a lot of food for 200.00 but you had diapers and paper supplies, which can be expensive.
Whole milk is recommended for the fat content and brain development. That being said there are definitely plenty of vegetarian and vegan families raising their children from birth in the same lifestyle. Also if she is a good eater and loves meat like my little guy she'll definitely be benefiting from that fat content. Here in Ontario it's recommended to serve fatty meats over lean cuts specifically for the fat. Saturated fats are so important throughout life not just during development.
Appreciate the video. You did excellent!! I also try to go for whole milk, but sometimes the budget doesn't call for it. I am also a mama from Canada 🇨🇦
@@heyvanessamartin Do you have the equivalent to WIC in Canada to help with food while you are pregnant, nursing and to age 5 for the children? They help with formula and then baby food to table food (milk, eggs, cheese, bread, beans, fruits and veggies)
@@amys5669I don’t think so but they do have child benefit where they can get up to per month per child depending on their age (age ranges from birth to 18 years). Anyone who has primary custody of their child qualifies.
Ive been watching for butter. So expensive. I found it at shoppers for 4 dollars. I needed a few for baking. Giant tiger is great too for lower prices.
We have iPhones and we use the notes app to make our grocery list in a bullet list form and check it off as we pick it up. We write the meal and then items needed below. You can write the price next to it if it helps This helps us keep on track and not buy lots of extras.
Was interesting seeing what kind of foods you can get in BC. Definitely more expensive there but the food looks pretty decent quality and quite a lot of organic food stuffs. Good food is important, I always prioritise getting good food as it is important. Looks like about £100 worth of groceries there but I think Canadian dollar is different than American and pound sterling and us dollar are not far off now. Thanks for posting!
Great job sticking to your list and planning! I too have to do that, otherwise, I’ll go over budget and buy things I don’t need! I feel for you, I used to have to carry groceries and two babies up two flights of stairs with two other little ones, trailing behind! I can’t even imagine 4 flights of stairs! Those days don’t last, but it’s sure hard. Just rest between if you can. I sent you a couple things for baby, from the US (Canadian Amazon), hope you get them soon!
$200 is what I usually spend a week as well when I go and I'm a mom of 3 big kids. I usually do Walmart pick up on their app I place my order to avoid buying stuff I don't need. I love using the Walmart app. Great Haul and I wish you had a elevator ❤ watching you now for a while and enjoy your videos it's nice to watch people in Canada I can relate to.
@heyvanessamartin you remind me of when I was your age and my baby girl and I had our first apartment 💓 I lived in fort mac at the time and loved my little one bedroom starting out as a young mom. My daughter will be 13 on her birthday.
That’s awesome Vanessa ! I make a list also ( i have 3 adult kids who are on their own ? I do exactly that , make a menu and then make a list ! Food is so expensive and I don’t want to waste anything so I find making a list very helpful ! And I never go shopping while I’m hungry that’s a big no no for me ! Anyway Vanessa I enjoyed your video 🙏🏼🩷🩷🩷
Great job!! Love these types of hauls!! Also i got a couple things for the new baby and something for P! I think you should have gotten it? And are you keeping that up for a while? Love you!!!❤❤❤❤
I missed a package the other day so have to go pick something up! Will keep up the registry while items on it are still available for people to get. Thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
We are 2 adults in Ontario we spend 400 at Costco's once a year and are budget is 60 a week I only shop sales we do go to BC about once a year and the prices are much higher than here but i love BC
Your so spot on in terms if something is on sale. Sometimes when my kids are going through a craze of loving Teddy Bear choc biscuits for eg and they are on sale l will buy up 5 packets - but then they get sick of them and they are still sitting in the pantry 2 months later 😊
I thought milk in Canada came in a bag? Is that only certain stores? In the U.S. as far as I know, we only sell in cartons and plastic. I transfer our milk into a glass pitcher (like my grandmother did). There is something about the glass pitcher that makes the milk taste so darn good.
I have to make a list myself or I’ll end up buying something I did not plan on and that’s not good .sometimes I get home delivery though too . I usually spend most $400 a month all together on food and household stuff and shower stuff
You did such a great job sticking to your list. You are such a great mom, Vanessa. I have the Walmart delivery service. It has saved me so much money by not going into the store. I make my list, do my meal planning for the week and place my order. I wish you had an elevator in your building to help get those groceries into your apartment. Thanks for the great video!
You’re doing a really good job! Being a single mom, in Canada with this wild inflation and cost of living.. you are doing really great. Those bags looked like they are from metro 😂 I love my big Costco bags. Also, the lasagna roll ups are amazing! We are actually having lasagna tonight 😊
If anyone thinks that $200 is a lot of money for groceries these days in this economy doesn’t live in reality and is just plain ridiculous. I think you shopped very good with the budget you had. Prices are crazy. It’s just two in our family a it’s hard not to spend that amount even with only the necessities. Hardly even filling up one and and a half bags. Great job!
Wow. I will never complain again about the price of food again. You did great and you're eating healthy. Good job Mom. I just found your channel. You're wonderful.
Great job 🎉. Im obsessed with saving money 😂 . Does the Walmarts in CA do online ordering/ delivery? May wanna look into that so you dont have to haul everything up 4 flights of stairs ❤.
Hi, fellow mommy here… I wanted to explain that it’s a girl commenting ( I don’t know why I made my @ name to include hubby but it was a long time ago ) anyway I really appreciate your videos about your life in Canada and also tell you how cute your little bump is. Your videos make me smile and I hope you have a wonderful day ❤😊
I was also a single mom of a toddler and pregnant with my second daughter… long crazy story and yes bad choices on my part BUT that was 18 years ago and I’m absolutely thriving now. I went on to find my husband when my girls were 2 and 6 and together we also had our son. My 22 and 18 year old daughters are both in college now doing absolutely amazing, my 11 year old son has 2 loving parents in the home with him, and we are living in our dream home with no money problems and just reaping the rewards of decades of hard work. It’s truly possible to live your dream life if you work hard even if you start in a difficult situation. Seeing your life reminds me so much of how I started my adult life but at 41 I don’t even know who that girl is anymore! It was a hard but rewarding journey and I never gave up on bettering myself! You can do it too! ❤
love this video. i love your earrings by the way :) also i was thinking maby for some christmas content and baby content maby u could do some shopping for christmas on a budget or shopping for newborn on a budget :)
Is it possible to get an apartment on a lower floor at some point ? I’m just thinking it would be easier with 2 little ones. Do they have Aldi ‘s in Canada 🇨🇦. What discount stores do they have in Canada ? I remembered my husband loved Tim Horton ‘s coffee when he was working in Canada in 2010. It was a brief job but he enjoyed the opportunity to travel up there for work. He had to go quickly too. And the state department rushed his work visa through in a couple days. It was like he came home on a Friday saying in need to go to Canada for a month and that Monday I was dropping him off at the airport. He returned home on June 5 th and it was snowing that day in Canada. We left for a Florida vacation upon his arrival home, we laughed about how he was in snow ⛄️ and then at the beach 🏝️ that week. We thought we would visit there in the future, he wanted me to see Canada. But I was very sick about that time and I got much worse. I ended up completely disabled by 2011. So we never got to go. But we still travel in the states. Much smaller trips. So glad I can do that. I get to go to the beach this week. It supposed to be 80 and sunny. I hope so. I need some vitamin D. You did good on your haul. Try to rest ! Get your feet up ! LA ❤
Loved this! ❤❤❤ I get carried away when it's "on sale," and I think retailers know this!! Like, I needed one, but why did I get 4 and save like $1...😂😂😂 in reality, I spent $4 more 🥴

hello, leuke video, je zegt : klein budget, 200 dollar voor een week, nu weet ik niet of dat hetzelfde is als 200 euro (ben van nederland/holland) maar 200 is hier echt geen : klein budget, is hier echt wel llink geld,
It’s going good! I decided to keep it the same at home and daycare to make it less stressful. So Penelope is in pull ups but she still tells me when she needs to go and she asked to use the big potty now. She doesn’t even want to use her little training potty anymore 🥹 we’ll see how this week at daycare goes if she can get used to the daycare potty and telling them when she needs to go, then we’ll go pick out big girl undies 🥰 I feel good with that plan and more relaxed.
There actually is a 1 bedroom available on the ground floor at the moment but it’s not worth the move unless to a 2 bedroom and I still don’t want to pay $2000/month before utilities for a 2 bedroom.
Such a fun video! 😀 I do the same thing when it comes to sales. I don’t always get what the sale is just what we need 😊 Now last week Arm & Hammer laundry detergent had a great sale buy one get one free for $5.99 (US currency) so I got 2 bottles for $5.99 😀 That I couldn’t pass up lol & sometimes Tyson brand chicken does buy one get one free with chicken breasts (3 breasts in a pack) & I do that lol. I’d love if you shared the lasagna roll up recipe 😀 It would be something different to make for my family 😊 Lastly your hair was so cute in this video! 😀 Have a great week! 🤗
Sadly, Walmart is not the cheapest place to buy groceries. Their meat is ridiculously expensive when you actually break it down to price per kilogram. And when you factor in the quality? Not worth it.
@@heyvanessamartin I mean you said necessities LOL!!! 😂❤ I always love these videos from you haha the shopping ones are my fave whether it is grocery hauls or otherwise

That's an amazing story! Thank you for sharing your journey! 🥰🥰🥰
You did a great job I have a tight budget too so it can be hard but you did good 😊
So a single mom n pregnant again good luck God bless you

Way to go, mama, great job!
Thank you!!
LA ❤
Great job with the budget.
Thanks!
I've done this before too. I have been embarrassed when people stare when I do this
Oh you can’t care about what others think! I’m so far past that lol I take my dang time (it’s like my personal vacation time) 😂😂
Good for you i can never stick to a list
Loved this! ❤❤❤ I get carried away when it's "on sale," and I think retailers know this!! Like, I needed one, but why did I get 4 and save like $1...😂😂😂 in reality, I spent $4 more 🥴
For someone who always say she is struggling how or why would you become pregnant? Those organic food pouches are quite expensive.
I don’t always say I’m struggling. How did I get pregnant? Why? Because I want children.
I shop like this also. That way nothing goes to waste.

No not everyone, there are a lot of people with money who don't even blink at the price of groceries
@@sj9410 your Right….But even those People can see the Prices….People with Lots of Money can be the MOST PENENY PINCHERS….
You are correct, she doesn’t need whole milk anymore :) dietitian here! ❤
Awesome thanks!
Mijn wekelijkse boodschappen kost ongeveer €100. Ik woon met mijn twee katten
I just bought 2% today as well to try on my toddler and myself normally I do whole! That’s funny
Do they offer wic in Canada. In the US it stands for women, infant and children. They help with food items for the month
We have something similar here, but it's called the "Canada Child Benefit"
@heyvanessamartin wic u get a card and they cover 1lb cheese doz egg pb, fruits vegs milk whole wheat
great haul mama. you did really good sticking to ur list . i do instacart so i stay out of the store 😂
Does Walmart charge for bags there?
Yes
Well done. How is the potty training going?
It’s going good! I decided to keep it the same at home and daycare to make it less stressful. So Penelope is in pull ups but she still tells me when she needs to go and she asked to use the big potty now. She doesn’t even want to use her little training potty anymore 🥹 we’ll see how this week at daycare goes if she can get used to the daycare potty and telling them when she needs to go, then we’ll go pick out big girl undies 🥰 I feel good with that plan and more relaxed.
@heyvanessamartin aaah thats great. Penelope is such a bright little button. ❤️
Is there not an apt available on the lower floor ? When the baby comes i worry about you lugging 2 kids your bag etc up and down 4 flights of steps
There actually is a 1 bedroom available on the ground floor at the moment but it’s not worth the move unless to a 2 bedroom and I still don’t want to pay $2000/month before utilities for a 2 bedroom.
With the housing crisis, most landlords would call that a new lease and raise the rent for the one bedroom. 😢
@laughinlori6893 that's sad
I will share the lasagna roll up recipe in a future video for sure! 🥰
Thank you! Looking forward to it! 😀🤗
Sadly, Walmart is not the cheapest place to buy groceries. Their meat is ridiculously expensive when you actually break it down to price per kilogram. And when you factor in the quality? Not worth it.
Are you still getting the food pantry boxes??
I like to visit the food bank once a month when needed.
Comes out with water and a bag of Dorito’s, hahahah jk! 😜🤭 watching now ❤❤
Exactly!!! 😂😂
@@heyvanessamartin I mean you said necessities LOL!!! 😂❤ I always love these videos from you haha the shopping ones are my fave whether it is grocery hauls or otherwise
Necessities for me I would switch the water to Coke Zero lol Glad you like these videos!! 🥰
Grocery shopping without my kids IS my weekly outing! 😂❤ I really do enjoy it lol!!
@ Oh that one is good too!!
