    I brought this in Cambridge , UK because of the lockdown. Did not want to keep going to the shop to get beer, I have to say with proper tonic water like schweppes/ fever tree , ice , slice of lemon = a divine drink, I love it .

    Gin is basically vodka with botanicals added, predominantly juniper berries.

    • @helliox2487

      not really. if you take vodka and mix with with essential oils extracted from the same botanicals, just mix them together with a vodka, it wouldn't be the same at all. the production process infuses all the 10 botanicals and the base alcohol into a single, highly complex ethanol molecule.

      Gin is infused grain spirit, vodka is grain spirit so yes gin is vodka. Gin has to have juniper berries to be classed as a gin the rest is just down to preference of the manufacturer.
      Vodka is turned to gin by either the maceration or vapour infused process

    I just bought a bottle of this, and the last time I drank this I was like 22, a friend came over at a party with this. Drinking and smoking some stuff, next thing I know he’s like Matt, you’re due for a shot, so I took a huge drink off of a bottle of this. Needless to say I don’t remember much of that night but it was my birthday. Usually I drink whiskey but I was just curious as to how this stuff is made.
    My dad drank gin, random fact.
    After watching though this, I can tell that this man, is very passionate and serious about Bombay. Idk man, should I keep drinking whiskey or switch to something like this

    Bombay Sapphire is certainly not craft. They're a global brand now. At what point are you no longer craft and just plain commercial

    • @Barthijzz
      @Barthijzz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bombay was made to be a brand. Marketed heavily from the start in 1986. Tanqueray or Gordon's might be global brands as well, but have some history at least. Charles Tanqueray was an innovator at the time, just like your everyday ginhipster wants to be. We're standing on his shoulders. Hendrick's is a bit different as well as it actually has some artisanal craft in it. Bombay is just plain rubbish marketed well by slick guys that present themselves well, just as this video.

    • @blairmulholland
      @blairmulholland 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Barthijzz At the end of the day, gin is just juniper berries and a bunch of other botanicals added to vodka. It's the combination of those botanicals that makes each gin unique. I happen to quite like the combination that Bombay Sapphire produces, and I like it better than Tanqueray or (ugh) Gordon's. Whatever its history or marketing, if it didn't taste fabulous, nobody would buy a second bottle. I have bought many, many bottles of Bombay, so they must be doing something right. But go on, you keep drinking your oily, nasty Gordons.

    • @Barthijzz
      @Barthijzz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blairmulhollandOh there's more to that than just adding botanicals to vodka. It's not about the taste, but the respect for the brand. I don't like Gordon's, but I'd never want to be associated drinking Bombay.

      I've tried plenty, and Bombay is my favourite by far. Gin is not complicated, it's all in the mix of the botanicals.
