Chris Thile's expression at 3:52 should be the sense of music appreciation and joy we aim to cultivate in all our nation's children. "What a wonderful world it would be..."
The single smartest thing Chris Thile has done with the show is to have these three women regularly appear on the show, either singly, duo, or trio. It's all good.
Their entire extended circle is wonderful... musicians flow like water between their various groups. Like, who is playing fiddle today? Is it Gabe Witcher? Alex Hargreaves? Brittany Haas? Maybe it's Sara! Like, you seriously never know who is going to be on that stage until the next performance and it's great!
Absolutely beautiful. Did anyone else listen to the instrumental solo at 3:00 over and over? So awesome. Oh and I love at the end they all can't even contain their smiles because, at that moment, they all know..that they just crushed that!!!!!!!!!!
Chris's reaction is indeed so beautiful at 3:52 as "I'm With Her" re-harmonizes the 3rd line of the chorus after the solo to a minor chord voicing and it's a terrific change to the sound that only happens this one time in the song. I reared back with joy at the same time when I first heard this as well. I keep coming back! It is a surprising and magical musical moment.
Unforgettable performance. This song was almost put aside by Vampire Weekend. But they recorded it anyway. Now it is a classic amongst the Vampire Weekend faithful and one of their most requested songs. Imagine what else ended up on the cutting room floor? And now I probably won't be able sleep tonight after thinking that.
Very beautiful version. Of Hana. Always loved that name. ❤❤❤❤ like Caspian he's a prince like his dad. There no answers but I know some day.😂😂❤❤❤❤mazal?❤❤❤❤
These three women, together with their incredible voices and instruments, are extremely powerful! I love Vampire Weekend and this is such a beautiful and emotional song. These women move me to tears with the beautiful sound that they make every time I watch and listen to this! I’m moved by this performance, for sure!
These three sound better live than the majority of other performers given free reign in a studio. We are SO lucky to be experiencing them at this stage of their individual careers.
I tend to have a few drinks every Saturday night, let down my guard, and eventually end up listening to youtube songs/bands. It gives me the "greatish" - greatist pleasure to say this is by far and away my most cherished final song of the night ALWAYS. It raises every sensibility I might have or pretend to endure. If there is a heaven in the web, this is the theme song for it. Thank you "I'm With Her." You have made me hold back so many tears that I can't explain or express a reason for. I guess it's just the beauty of love and the fear of it's inevitable death.
On a dark day, in a dark world, this crosse my path and gave me joy. Thank you I'm With Her (been with you from the start), Vampire Weekend (for a great song), and always Chris Thile for constant joy, innovation, authenticity, brilliance, and a wonderful Father's Day concert in Escondido.
They have that same magical blend Crosby, Stills, and Nash found... I would have loved to have been there there first time these three incredibly talented women sang together... It must have been an amazing moment to witness them experiencing that blend for the first time!! Then add to that the fact they are equally talented instrumentalists... Wow!!!!
I hear these sharp, clear harmonies, perfectly timed. And it reminds me of how many bands sound, live. If you don't notice it at the time, you surely do on youtube. Especially rock bands. These ladies are pro's who care - and we get to revel in their sound! And they do it on an open stage, outdoors, to a huge crowd. It's like they breathe as one.
For me, this eclipses the Vampire Weekend original. I'm With Her takes it to another level with their vocal harmony, and practically speaking I think their musicianship and performance is much better live than VW. Obviously, Ezra is a brilliant song-writer and musician, but sometimes covers reveal new depths to a song that the original writer never noticed. This may be the artists' curse: the closer you are personally to a piece of art, the harder it is to see it properly.
I know that each of these women have practiced music for years and years, but there is something more behind the magic that they create. They each have sampled the ambrosia of the gods and that rare air that graces them with talent that exceeds mere mortals. They are so amazing and I am so grateful to live in a time when I can see and hear such beauty in sound.
If you are missing Live From Here and haven’t heard the news, Chris Thile and Punch Brothers have a new musical variety show, The Energy Curfew Music Hour. Season one is streaming here: bit.ly/ecmh-season1 - Punch Brothers HQ
I saw them the week after this video. Sarah Jarosz should get her own Macarther Genius grant. During the show, this little girl in the audience was doing backflips. Aoife said she had never seen anyone flippin' over their music before.
Sometimes you play a song that’s good enough, but then there’s just this one part that sends you over the moon. The mandolin solo very simply starts the fire and the violin stirs the passion until it erupts again in a stirring chorus. Watch Chris Thile’s expression as they modulate the chorus, just one time, from E Bm D A to Em Bm D A, at 3:50, as Watkins hits just one note that gracefully complements the modulation, and he looks over at the band, as if to say “OMG!! did you hear that??" One of my favorite musical moments from 2018.
The first time I heard this I was listening to the show on its first airing.. the intro already had me and then they started in I just lost it. What was one of my favorite VW songs is now my favorite.. and this version will always top the original for me.
A pleasure to listen to this from the other side of the world, second round of lockdown, five weeks to go until a theoretical loosening of Cov19 restrictions for my city.
That four-note run starting at 0:17 sounds suspiciously like the beginning of the first few notes of the melody in "Run" by Vampire Weekend, which Ezra has said is the prequel to this song. Not sure if they did that on purpose - if so, that's incredible. If not, serendipity.
Ladies and gentlemen, THAT is how you cover a song.
Stunningly beautiful.
It's like the original was written just so they could cover it.
As good a musical performance as I have ever heard. On all levels.
Damn right
they added their twist instead of trying to do everything the same, yes
This is the GREATISHT... *greatest*... version of this song.
Chris Thile's expression at 3:52 should be the sense of music appreciation and joy we aim to cultivate in all our nation's children. "What a wonderful world it would be..."
It's that high note that does it for him
Man i was gonna comment on same thing. If there was anyone who enjoyed it as much as me in the background was him. The guy is wonderful
Yah that’s how you tell someone really knows their shit
@@austinmistretta8373 for me too
goosebumps
This is what you tube was made for. Thank you I’m with her and Chris thile for showing love of music.
Just to remember how great they are, these wonderful, outstanding musicians won a Grammy the other day.
I've probably listened to this 50 times. The harmonies still give me goose bumps and bring a tears to my eyes. Just amazing. Magic.
Same. They were recording earlier this year somewhere in the Hudson Valley, so hopefully some new music with the new year!

Punch + I'm With Her = transcendent bliss
De fff is this comment reminds me of the Monty Python argument sketch!
Nothing. Except that they are women
Geoff Ward No it doesn't.
3:50 Look at Chris Thile in the background soaking up that beautiful cheeky minor chord. :) The whole song is wonderful thank you. x
Chris Thile is all of us.
Chris Thile is like our perfect emotional mirror when we see beautiful performances like this.
I love the song, but I especially love watching Chris Thile love the song.
Still coming back to hear this amazing group of ladies perform this. Still gives me chills and sense of awe.
I respect the hell out of Ms. Hannah for tearing the New York Times to pieces.
I'll never get sick of these harmonies.
Absolutely beautiful. Did anyone else listen to the instrumental solo at 3:00 over and over? So awesome. Oh and I love at the end they all can't even contain their smiles because, at that moment, they all know..that they just crushed that!!!!!!!!!!
I wish I could like this more times
There should be a ‘love’ button only to be used for exceptionally marvellous videos
You'll never fine a better version of this song. These ladies. Are utterly amazing.

One of my favorite performances on TH-cam

This made me cry.

The look on Chris's face , he is really enjoying this.
A year and a half later and this still shakes me to the core.
Absolutely chilling.

This has to be what heaven sounds like.

Omg. This just came up in my heavily curated TH-cam feed. Stunning. Speechless.
Holy shit I cried

Wow!!!!
National Treasure right there!
Hands up who got goosebumps just from that first chord. Love these women.
The most epic cover EVER!!!!

Okay that was amazing
These ladies are at the top of their game. Remarkable performance.
One of my favorite videos they or anyone perform!
Can't imagine a more perfect live performance. Thanks for capturing a critical field recording : )
More Vampire Weekend! Such a treat to see what we heard. Chris is enthralled in the background!
Ben Folds and Ben Folds Five got me through some of my roughest times in college. Broke jazz studies major, and joined the military to “grow up”…….❤
A sublime reinterpretation of a Vampire Weekend song in an ethereal setting.
2021 baby...☺
Chris knew he witnessed greatness.
Someone help, I can't stop watching this.
Three very talented musicians singing into one microphone, that is how it's down. Such beautiful voices.
Wow the harmony great cover ❤

This is a tremendous cover of a tremendous song!
That's as good as it gets right there!
I sure do miss hearing that show on the radio every weekend. I'm With Her was my favorite!

Half the fun of this is seeing Chris Thile losing his mind behind them. He's moved to tears (and so am I!).
Beautiful
chris, you got the best of the best having these ladies on stage with you.Don't every let them go.
so cool to see chris thile and sara watkins come so far! !
No wonder Paul Krugman put a link to this video in his newsletter! Fantastic! Thanks, Paul.
The best band in the world right now.
Wow, just WOW!
The Greyish Pleasure indeed! Love this!

The amount of joy such beautiful artistry gives to me is indescribable.
Just discovered this song and so well done ...wonderful..ThX

didn't notice that -- awesome observation
Coming to this a bit late- but it's such an amazing moment in this version. One semitone, once, but it's like an explosion.
EXACTLY!!@@JamesCreegan
Still keep coming back to this cover. The violin is amazing during the solo
Gosh. I love love love love this cover & I'm With Her.
Das macht glücklich!
I miss shows this so much! I hope we can get back to concerts as soon as possible.
Damn it Sara, Sarah and Aoife, you've got your own sense of time - you stopped it dead in its tracks with that spell-binding performance.
I already got emotional the moment I saw the instruments they were going to use. Song is beautiful
After hearing them perform this live at a concert, I'm thrilled there's another high quality version online!
The first time I heard this I was listening to the show on its first airing.. the intro already had me and then they started in I just lost it. What was one of my favorite VW songs is now my favorite.. and this version will always top the original for me.
Great cover!!! One of the best I’ve heard
A pleasure to listen to this from the other side of the world, second round of lockdown, five weeks to go until a theoretical loosening of Cov19 restrictions for my city.
Hang in there! Thankful for this music, too
pure magic
There's nothing better than one of your favorite artists covering another one of your favorite artists. Chills.
Saw them perform this in Central Park a few weeks ago and was totally blown away. Jawdropping harmonies and an all around incredible performance
This was fantastic! Love seeing how pumped Chris is in the background. Phenomenal work!
PERFECTION
Dam, they're good!
I think I may be obsessed with this rendition. Gorgeous.
This is stunningly beautiful wow!
Awesome cover of my favorite Vampire Weekend song!
Shades of Sinead and Prince. These women own it!!

I stumbled onto this, this is stunning and evoking, absolutely love this.....
This was my favorite song of the night when they performed in Houston. Glad to have such a clear recording of it.
Gave me chills.
Simply GORGEOUS
Great cover

they've said it's a continuation to run... freaking geniuses
Please, please, PLEASE release a recording of this song. Ideally this performance of this song. :-)
