Couldn’t see your friend’s brake lights. Was tempted to say he was using the bikes weight and engine braking instead of brakes. But then he was even faster going down hill. So accurate and smooth I think maybe he knows all those bends off by heart rides them in his sleep. Because you know this I suggest you are subconsciously thinking about what he is doing rather than relaxing into your own ride, coupled with the poor fueling. He is riding his bike like an alpine skier on a slalom. But also his V4 has the power always to hand whereas you have to wait for the revs to climb, then immediately shut off and brake for the next bend and watch him gap you easy on the exit. Glad you posted this, I’ve learned a lot by watching this a few times and your commentary 👍👍
Thanks a lot! The V4 of my VFR has a really powerful engine brake, so I don't have to brake a lot, even downhill. And yes, I love this road and ride it at least twice a year. :)

I’m glad you published this. The sound recording is awesome as always. But not every bike is to everyone’s liking. Thanks for relaying the issues you had.
I own this bike and love it the only issue is the throttle i would say its abrupt so you need to be smooth but you soon get used to that also you need the ride the bike useing the torque more rather than revs at lower speed.
God damn, watching the guy on the old RC36 in front was borderline sexual. So smooth and fast, on what is admittedly a quite heavy and old clunker. Great show! :D
Lasse J Ougaard Still one of the best bikes out there! The VFR 750 is such a smooth ride. So forgiving, so non intimidating and so easy to keep momentum on and therefore also fast! I own a couple of bikes, my quickest is a Triumph Speed Triple RS, but on most roads I think I am as fast on my VFR 750, as I am on my Speedie. The VFR is also loads more comfortable. The older VFR’s are engineering masterpieces.

think i have exact the same gsx s1000f white 2018 model. I am definitely in love with this motorcycle. The on-off throttle behavior can be adjusted, and there are always downsides. This bike has a wonderful torque and the sitting position is more than comfortable for my worn-out old back. I think the GSXS1000F is the perfect bike for me at the moment. Love the renthal bars
Going in too hot trying to keep up with a faster rider. Never switch to agression at the expense of technique. The good racer acknowledges defeat and calmly takes second.
I think both of Schaaf’s dislike have been addressed with the 2022 s1000gt. I would LOVE a Schaaf review of that thing once it’s available as it’s priced to be one of the best value per dollar in this segment.
Great ride! Yes the throttle is twitchy, but can be fixed easily by proper setting of the TPS and a reset of the throttle open position. At least on the cable actuated system, not sure about drive by wire.
Suzuki does make some nice sounding motors. I've ridden the GSX-S as well and had pretty much the same thoughts on it. I also felt that the gears were too closely spaced (RPMS are very high at highway/motorway speed) and the bike vibrates BADLY. I rode it back to back with a GSXR-1000R and felt the GSXR was much smoother, and had a much smoother motor that was easier to control even with 200hp. The GSXR is just not comfortable for anything more than a short ride. I also rode the GSX-S750 and liked it a lot more than its big brother, had a very light, playful feel, and still plenty of power, it also had a lot less vibration, and the gearing was more appropriate for the motor.
The 750 is definitely a much better bike, plus the gearing is worlds better, period. The 1000 is way to close. First gear hits 80 and I think it's about another 20mph increase for each gear past that
I tested lots of bike in the past 3 years. GSX-S1000 KTM Superduke 1290 R BMW S1000R and now i've bought me a 2006 GSX-R 1000. With handlebar's up and footrests a little back it's comfy and the engine is still mental. I think if you do not need one of those naked steroid bikes, go for an old GSX-R 1000. Brilliant chassis and engine and extreme fun to ride.
The front end was designed to create downforce so that plus the extra weight for fairings is what give this bike such a planted feel . It may not be the prettiest but she has substance. The throttle is mostly smoothed by a flash and throttle tamer.
I am delighted with this bike. I will consider it when I sell CBF1000. Beautiful engine sound, smooth and pleasant to the ears. Tell what happend in 11:23 ? It was problem with ignition?
Had throttle issues ever since they came out on both versions the gsxs naked and the gsxs f...Figured they would had that straightened out by now...Great vid dude...
Your friend is smooooth as hell. He just sat there like he was sight-seeing hardly putting a knee down. I think he went faster in the corners than on the straights. I would have lost sight within three corners. Beautiful rider. The filming was great as there is a great sense of speed and it was clear you weren't very comfortable on that bike. It was scary to watch in parts, especially downhill. That was a challenging piece of road with little room for error.
It’s actually possible to see from this video how snatchy the throttle is on the Gsx-s1000. I find it a bit odd that the snatchy throttle is still a thing on the new bikes when this model has been around since 2015ish and the 750 has much better throttle response 🤔

Szlejer I know that feeling. Ended up buying a Speed Triple RS for this season, but after 2k kms I still like the old girl more. In the sport tourer category I think only the z1000sx and the BMW R1250RS is really comparable to the VFR 750, all of the others are to big can’t carry enough luggage or is just outright unrefined compared to the VFR.
Watching this made me nervous for you. I can tell from watching your other videos, that this bike was harder to control with the throttle. The guy on the VFR made it look easy and smooth riding while the GSXS was too twitchy. Thanks for the upload.

The guy on the VFR is apexing correctly and using all the road.......schaaf isnt.....he is on off the throttle and a bit nervous but I think schaaf your videos are fantastic thank you
Hi. The bike is known for its throttle response. That is the reason why I don`t get it, that you hammer it in first gear around the thigt stuff and wondering that the bike balance is upset by on/off throtle mid corner. One or two gears higher and a lot less trouble. It is still a thousand cc bike, there should be enough grunt to get fast enough out of the corner. I don`t know what went wrong with this particular gear box, but Suzuki has normaly very good gear boxes. Disclaimer: I own this bike in Euro 3 configuration. That sounds even better, the gear box is fine, and the throttle response is something I have to adapt my inputs and riding style.
because I always use first gear in tight hairpins. Every other bike out there I've ever been on doesn't make a fuss. I simply don't want to be that far away from the power band
Tricky request perhaps, but which one would you go for if you had to choose between this and z1000sx if you disregard the twitchy throttle and disregard the looks?
Ive just got a 2019 one, I wasnt a fan of the looks when they first come out, but it has grown on me over time (looks way better in matte black ;) ). Mine doesnt seem to suffer with the twitchy throttle at all (maybe something suzuki have sorted after all the complaints? lol ). I really love it, the engine is great, handles well enough and comfy enough for long ride outs. Plus I think its absolute cracking value for money. Less than £9000 new.
Changes from Vfr800F 2016 to Gsx-S 1000F 2018. The Dating Position in the Suzuki is more comfortable and the Power awsome. I have no Problems to handle the throttle but I have to je more concentrated due to the Power of the Suzuki.
15:02 yes a peg scrape! I've been wanting to see the lean limit of that motorcycle since its my next motorcycle. I solidified my decision in getting the gsxs1000f after music artist DMX passed away this past Friday. And Suzuki is a common brand in the Ruff Ryders Anthem music video. Great video Schaff👍👍
Are you sure the chain was adjusted properly when you rode this? I know they're snatchy, but this seems worse than usual. That and the false neutrals, something seems wrong.
I watched ........probably 4 more reviews and that was the number one complaint. It can be tuned out, but why make us spend money to clean up a bad tune ?
I could have easily used 2nd but I didn't want to be that far away from the mid revs. I always ride tight corners in first gear just to see how the bike copes with it.
Suzuki known whith ıts perfect transmisson I cant understand why ıt do that fake natural gear. And ı want to ask you something did you notice with this monster snatcy throtte problem ?
You're shifting down too early. Then often times rely on neutral stage to slow down the speed somewhat like just waiting for it slow down even cause you to look doubtful with your cornering .I would prefer using front brakes first instead of shifting down right away.
So when do you do a RAW with the sexy old VFR? I would really like to see that and read your opinion about it as a sports tourer compared to modern alternatives. I have tried few bikes that I like more than the VFR 750. 😄
I rode the same bike a few days ago, dont you think the on/off throttle is super aggressive? I mean the on off throttle was scarier than the Superduke haha
I leave my SDR in street mode primarily, even when in the Canyons, I rarely use sport. Rain mode is perfect for around town its just it's so smooth. Sport mode is violent haha
Hi Schaaf, you can be as fast as your friend. Just follow his corner line. I've seen plenty of Schaaf 1.0 so you are in no way slower than him : ) stay safe (btw his lines are safer and faster)
Not really sure why you felt the need to keep wringing its neck in such low gears. Any motorcycle or car for that matter will always have a twichy/snatchy throttle response if you keep it constantly at very high revs and open and close the throttle abruptly. That bike has around 150 bhp and 80 ft/lbs of torque so I would suggest using higher gears would produce a much smoother and less frantic ride and still keep up. That sort of riding style is what a guy on say a 400cc sports bike would need to adopt to keep up. Nevertheless liked the vid
Because it is enjoyable. And nope, no other bike I've ever ridden (which is more than 50 right now) has such a snappy throttle. Every other bike I've been on deals with this kind of throttle control just fine.
Hi Larry, it'a a 1996 RC36II. No serious mods except Wirth front springs, Takkoni exhaust and a little shorter transmission ratio. The rear is also 4cm higher than original. That's all.
I think the bike is pretty - a matter of personal taste, isn't it? But even from here I could clearly notice the throttle response is jerky, and that alone would stop me buying a motorcycle, even if it's a sport-touring one, which I usually love.
Thanks for video. Can you give me a short list of bikes you would buy with your own money? I guess old vfr is one? I am looking for a bike and it is difficult to get test rides in my town. Thanks in advance. P.S. Doesn’t matter if used or new or what type or what price.
The recording is as good as ever but the noise lacks some ompff for my taste. It sounds like some OEM end can or baffle. It's still a treat to get another of your videos. Now I wonder how much stuff you kept for yourself. I'd love to dernier of the 675R you tried long ago. ;)
@@Lukas-bx1ii Yep, description that I read after - too late, my mistake (I looked at the description and didn't the usual block of text and thus just skiped it). I still find hard to understand why Schaaf really likes this sound here, after the so many nice bikes he's riden.
Your description of this bike is accurate. Changing to the least aggressive mode helps the throttle, but you can remap. I think the 2018 model update fixed some of this issue. There is also now the Katana but it is not a sport tourer as much. The Z1000SX (Ninja 1000 in US) is probably the only other option before looking at Euro bikes like the Ducati SuperSport or BMW R1250RS.

Less than £9000 new.
you can get rid of the twitchy throttle with a bit of fine-tuning I've heard
The throttle has two modes on this bike: on and off.... Was it the 2015 model? Because I read they did some work on the 2017 model.
it was from 2018 and yes, they did. So I don't even want to know how horrible the previous model has been
That whistling sound so nice but where it comes from?
Gearbox
Nice vid. A easy mod for extra induction roar, remove the restrictor plate from the airbox.
cool
where do you have the Zoom H1 placed and how do u link the sound and the video?
Great video btw!
In the description
Nice Video! Which mic do u use ?
danke dir!!
how would you compare it to the ninja 1000 sx you rode ?
I can't compare it really since my ride on the GSXS was such a long time ago, sorry.
Ask friend for a ride on his VFR750. That v4 goodness....
I will next time
@@Schaaf great. Because I am riding 97' VFR750F RC36 II and I think it is a great bike :)
@@MrSkyliner2 That's you? Because I looked at your video's and I hear VFR :)
@@linxus18 Yes, that's me in front of schaaf ...
Changes from Vfr800F 2016 to Gsx-S 1000F 2018. The Dating Position in the Suzuki is more comfortable and the Power awsome. I have no Problems to handle the throttle but I have to je more concentrated due to the Power of the Suzuki.
cool
15:02 yes a peg scrape! I've been wanting to see the lean limit of that motorcycle since its my next motorcycle. I solidified my decision in getting the gsxs1000f after music artist DMX passed away this past Friday. And Suzuki is a common brand in the Ruff Ryders Anthem music video. Great video Schaff👍👍
Good choice!
Are you sure the chain was adjusted properly when you rode this? I know they're snatchy, but this seems worse than usual. That and the false neutrals, something seems wrong.
yes it was
On/off throttle and shifting seems really clunky. Is that normal for those?
yes
I watched ........probably 4 more reviews and that was the number one complaint. It can be tuned out, but why make us spend money to clean up a bad tune ?
I come back to this video once in a while to see that VFR
Nice!
Did this thing feel like it had enough power?
Hi,
Armchair quarterbacking on my part, but I've ridden a GSXS1000, and with it's short gearing, I'd use 2nd even in the tightest corners.
I could have easily used 2nd but I didn't want to be that far away from the mid revs. I always ride tight corners in first gear just to see how the bike copes with it.
@@Schaaf I wondered myself why you were going back to first gear thanks for the explanation...Snake!
Großglockner-Hochalpenstraße. amazing road.
Thanks for the info - I am going to Zell am See at the end of July.
A remap and power commander sorted mine right out have no dramas at all with the throttle. I have a 2016 model
true, I've heard people saying that
Suzuki known whith ıts perfect transmisson I cant understand why ıt do that fake natural gear. And ı want to ask you something did you notice with this monster snatcy throtte problem ?
yes it was quite bad the throttle response
Where is this ?
You're shifting down too early. Then often times rely on neutral stage to slow down the speed somewhat like just waiting for it slow down even cause you to look doubtful with your cornering .I would prefer using front brakes first instead of shifting down right away.
I am not. But thanks anyway
So when do you do a RAW with the sexy old VFR? I would really like to see that and read your opinion about it as a sports tourer compared to modern alternatives. I have tried few bikes that I like more than the VFR 750. 😄
whenever I meet that friend again. Which unfortunately will take a while
Hey!!! The video is so amazing.
Greeting from Bulgaria.
Where is this beautiful place
Großglockner Hochalpenstrasse
@@Schaaf
I would suggest you to put an eye on the throttle control
lol
I rode the same bike a few days ago, dont you think the on/off throttle is super aggressive? I mean the on off throttle was scarier than the Superduke haha
He has mentioned it in the video see after 7:49 .
You can always change the throttle ring for one more progressive or with less pulling on the cable for a given amount of grip rotation.
@@menonwithacanonOh thanks, didn't notice hehe
@@seventysevencats Yeah, but if a bike has such a snappy throttle from factory - its a no from me.
I leave my SDR in street mode primarily, even when in the Canyons, I rarely use sport. Rain mode is perfect for around town its just it's so smooth. Sport mode is violent haha
what is your video setup? how do you mount your Hero 7 to the helmet? your driving picture is VERY nice! it is live and very dynamic! thank you.
with a sticky pad
@@Schaaf just on a chin of a helmet?
Hi Schaaf, you can be as fast as your friend. Just follow his corner line. I've seen plenty of Schaaf 1.0 so you are in no way slower than him : ) stay safe (btw his lines are safer and faster)
Both Schaaf 1.0 and 2.0 are slower than this guy. I am no match for him. I know him and his riding for a long time :)
OMG, look to this beautiful place! I need to live this. Someone knows a pretty place like that in Brazil?
I doubt it
Super!
So, which one- this or 750?
Whatever you feel better with
this bike have a Quick Shifter Up ?
no
whats that trepidation at 13:00 ?
no idea
İt's a stock exhaust or else?
Nice ride! I enjoy even watching this. Would love to ride there. Have the same bike 2020 year
Nice!
You should test the 2020 model ...
I think you drive better than the most of us, plus motorcycling is about having fun not about showing off...
yes that's it and a not so good ride like this simply isn't very fun to me
Do you know what year your friend's VFR is? I have a 96 RC36...what mods has he done? And killer sound.
all I know is that it is an RC36 as well
Hi Larry, it'a a 1996 RC36II. No serious mods except Wirth front springs, Takkoni exhaust and a little shorter transmission ratio. The rear is also 4cm higher than original. That's all.
@@MrSkyliner2 thanks for that. nice riding there.
Man, I'd love to see a helmet cam of that vfr rider. My man was destroying the turns on a bike as old, if not older than my parents.
would be great indeed
th-cam.com/video/l39RA7JXDns/w-d-xo.html
I think the bike is pretty - a matter of personal taste, isn't it? But even from here I could clearly notice the throttle response is jerky, and that alone would stop me buying a motorcycle, even if it's a sport-touring one, which I usually love.
it sure is a matter of personal taste!!
Thanks for video. Can you give me a short list of bikes you would buy with your own money? I guess old vfr is one? I am looking for a bike and it is difficult to get test rides in my town. Thanks in advance. P.S. Doesn’t matter if used or new or what type or what price.
15 CB500s
Schaaf Do you mean 2015 CB500s or 15 CB500’s? Thanks.
yea, it's unfortunate they don't map these good out of the factory, once they get remapped they are absolutely wonderful to drive.
I heard that as well
The recording is as good as ever but the noise lacks some ompff for my taste. It sounds like some OEM end can or baffle.
It's still a treat to get another of your videos. Now I wonder how much stuff you kept for yourself. I'd love to dernier of the 675R you tried long ago. ;)
It sounds like OEM because it is, as written in description. :)
@@Lukas-bx1ii Yep, description that I read after - too late, my mistake (I looked at the description and didn't the usual block of text and thus just skiped it). I still find hard to understand why Schaaf really likes this sound here, after the so many nice bikes he's riden.
@@seventysevencats sound isn't that bad for a stock euro 4 bike. Anyway, I think he refers more to the recording, which is brilliant
exactly. I like the quality of the recording.
Podría probar la gsx1000gt? Gracias
th-cam.com/video/A_lVU5NGIUY/w-d-xo.html
Your description of this bike is accurate. Changing to the least aggressive mode helps the throttle, but you can remap. I think the 2018 model update fixed some of this issue. There is also now the Katana but it is not a sport tourer as much. The Z1000SX (Ninja 1000 in US) is probably the only other option before looking at Euro bikes like the Ducati SuperSport or BMW R1250RS.
true that. And that SX is a great bike for sure
Hello you ! I write directly from Brazil !!! You make the best motorcycle videos on the internet !!! I have a Suzuki GSX S1000 and I would like to ask you if you change gears without using the clutch, because I do it like that but everyone advises against it
take a look at my left hand
Noticed how snatchy the throttle sounded.. Didn't seem so fun!
suzuki power
the V-Stroms do it too, especially the 1000. The current GSXR-1000, however, is smooth as silk.
In my short experience, it's just a trait of Suzukis.
it was spoiling my fun quite a bit
I’ve owned one for a while and it bothered me at first but now that I’ve had it a while it’s so fun to just breath on the throttle and go
Looks like pretty strong engine brake ha?
it was alright
your riding was great up until that shift to neutral. nerves after that. ive thought about buying one of these, not so sure now haha. love the content man. glad you posted the video as there is some good learning to be had from it
