I would like to point out that the skill "Let's go goyo!" for Tetsu Trudge did not originally add 1 Goyo Guardian to the deck, but it made your extra deck BECOME 1 Goyo Guardian.
ah, this is the era of the game im familiar with, since thats when i started playing also its interesting to note how trudge original goyo guardian skill didnt ADD 1 copy of the card to the extra deck, instead it made it so that the ONLY card in your ED, and that was on purpose....it only got """buffed"" later to work as the text
5Ds world was one of the most exciting world launches for me because back then, I hadn't seen the anime or done any synchro summoning ever, so it got me into it since I was curious about all the characters.
I can’t believe we’re at 5Ds already! While i did technically begin playing Duel Links in the GX era, my journey began in the 5Ds era. My first deck was a 30 card Red Eyes deck, and my first event was the Dark Signer Kalin Kessler Event that went on back in May 2019!
It's interesting to me to see how both Diamond Core and Banishment of the Darklords do exactly the same thing, and their release pushed both archetypes to almost Tier0 status. Just a one card consistency boost can be so impactful.
I remember when revolution beginning was released, i was so hyped for Fableds because it's one of my most favorite decks of all times, that i literally spend all my gems getting x3 of Cerburrel and Grimro, sadly tho i failed testing in the ladders, but atleast my gems weren't at all wasted, because i played Koa'ki meiru at it's full power and got like 3 kog with it before nerf.
33:10 the music is fitting. The terror this deck brought to me when I had just finished making my Gusto deck because I found out that Gusto could easily counter Koa'ki Meiru due to their only way to remove monster was destruction, and Gulldo loved being destroyed no matter how. I was so hopeful that my favorite deck was gonna be a meta contender, and then Konami just decided to lol disregard the last box and released Ancient Gears to couner Koakis. I haven't forgiven Konami for ruining one of my favorite decks, and never releasing Daigusto Sphreez.
excellent as always, i'm pretty surprised synchros took a while to actually take off. you'd think theyd be as dominant as they were in the tcg format and also the fact they are from a show about card games on motorcycles, going fast is kinda their thing and all. im excited for the next bit as ever!

You brushed over a lot of the things that were played in the earliest days a lot in your first video and it's probably enough space for a deeper dive on things like Dinosaur Beatdown and suchlike.
I remember this era so well now that I look back, as it was the era I started playing. And christ if some of these decks were fucking cancer. Parasite Paracide, lava golem, and Amazoness swordswoman were so good and it drove me nuts.

I remember how I did not like this banlist with how it just turned Amazoness even more into a burn deck strategy that eventually got the swordswoman on the list, and I never liked or played it like that. And there was also the cipher soldier burn deck and the Balance elemental hero wildheart/tenkabito equip spell deck.
ah memories I started the game during jacks first unlock event and remember playing aromage to gold back then as my first deck with mai's aroma strategy skill old 2019 aromage before all the support came being the tuner and synchro and the mini box I remember bergamont being so good with summoning him off rose lover nostalgic as fuck.

The start of modern duel links in my opinion is in the next box 'warrior's unite' and the six samurais. they can spam control and have negates and do it easily in 1 turn
These videos are making me want to get into the game finally, whether it's fun or not right now, these videos do make it seem like a breakneck pace of new metas or nothing changing for months. Guess in that way it's very similar to the some eras of the TCG.

There is another reason why FireFists did/do little in the game, despite bear. Bear was great in the TCG, due to the MP2. Allowing you to use the searched backrow. In D-Links it’s just a dead card
