I miss Walter so much, part of my life ,musically ,from the age of 16, luckily saw him play in the UK twice in 07 and 09 , have SD since but it isn’t quite the same .
Not only is Steely Dan one of the finest musical groups in the world, they were extremely unique in their material. No one has ever dared to sound like them, or copy them, because it is not possible so don't try. They were one of a kind. I started listening to them when I was in 8th grade and they were so sophisticated, and made me feel sophisticated at 13 years old, compared to the standard rock and roll fare of the earlier 70s. It's 2024 and I'm still with them. Every track they laid down is a classic.

Steely Dan (as it is now) was one of the bands I was going to see this last year and for that matter is one of the bands I’m going to see when the pandemic clears and normalcy 2.0 eases in again. I had a lot of concerts I was planning to goto between B Eilish and Rage Against the Machine, Nick Cave, many others, but Steely Dan was the one I was and am most excited for. I didn’t get hip to them till about a decade back after a point in my life and am so sad that Walter passed before I could see them but I’m so glad they played so much in their latter years and provided this wonderful music to née audiences. Peace and Love and live rock music
What a treat! Heard and saw Walter many times and had the pleasure of hearing him sing, love his voice his guitar playing his songwriting his Steely Humour, The "Everyone Must Blow" Tour. Thanks for the Music. Check out Eleven Tracks of Whack and Circus Money both superb solo albums
These lyrics are third-rate by 1970s Steely Dan standards. It's nice to see Walter Becker singing, and _Circus Money_ is easily as good as Fagen's more recent work, but it's been a letdown from _Kamakiriad_ onward. The quality control just isn't there.
his vocals are so good that i think all of the main Steely Dan Discography was robbed of his gem of a voice.
Check out Walter singing on the outtake Mock Turtle's Song. His vocals were certainly strong enough in the 70s to carry some of those Dan numbers.
FUCK! He sounded so good live, never got the chance to hear it in person....RIP!!!!
@@user-np2db1rh3t lucky to see him 07 &09
To me there can NEVER!! be Steely Dan without Walter Becker-he was the edge
Well he was half of Steely Dan wasn’t he?
Absolutely
I miss him
Never heard Walter Becker sing! Very soulful voice. Totally different than Donald Fagan. Too bad he didn't sing on more of their records. RIP Walter
He also sang Book Of Liars.
He made two solo albums
May also find some nice versions of him doing Midnite Cruiser and Jack of Speed around here
There's also a clip of him singing Gaucho.

He sang really well, but his funky guitar style was the real heart of the band IMO. Also a great bass player.
