i used to skateboard back in my middle school/high school years and i felt the same way. on the weekends i would wake up at the crack of dawn and put on skate videos of Rodney and other skaters and it would fuel me for the day. i would skate from sun up until it got so late that the cops would make us go home because it was so late that we looked like we were up to no good (2-3am) when you're a skateboarder and you have that passion, it is literally your whole life. i wish i still had that drive.

@@xSpooby I hear ya but remember, once a skateboarder, always a skateboarder dude! it's in your blood! lol as a teenager my friends and I would head out to SF on the weekend and hit as many spots as we could, fit in homework (maybe ha) and go back the next day, all week we'd be counting down till we could do it all over again. I had a decent job in my early 20s that gave me free time to continue to do that through out the week even if I did it alone. I did admittedly go through a period where I guess I would say I "stopped" but rather stopped trying and would just cruise but somehow felt discouraged. It's clips like these that make me remember why I wanted to start skating in the first place at 8 or 9. I just cant stop. Even if these days pushing into my 30s I cant hit stairs and all that shit like I used to, my board is still by the front door, always begging to go out for a ride. Grab the board and go ride dude!

I still think Tas Pappas should have had the 900 at the X-games... they didn't let him in that part of the contest!!!! Hawk watched the video of Tas trying the 900 and almost landing it... then shortly after Hawk is doing the 900 at Xgames and Tas was never given a chance too......

You make a good point, but in terms of getting mass recognition, not only to Hawk but to skateboarding, the sport wouldn't be what it is today. He created the cultural spark, while Rodney innovated. It's sad tho that most people don't even know who Rodney Mullen is, but when you mention Tony Hawk, everyone knows who he is.

It's amazing, because I remember around this time, growing up in the late 80's to early 90's, there have always been these two different scenes. Two great guys, and great to hear how they respected and inspired each other. Rodney being the king of street-skating, and Tony the same in vert, their styles are so different, yet they drew so much inspiration from each other's tricks! I found this amazing to discover. I always loved both guys and both have inspired me (I've been skating for over 20 years), so was a treat to hear that they both also highly respected one another. Rodney was, and still is, my MAIN INPIRATION, me being a street-skater myself. Respect to ALL you skaters who found your way to this video, from Davey Hughes in Éire (Ireland)

Yeah I'm confused now so he was naturally goofy switched to regular than now is stanceless so what ever stance he does the trick in its just called goofy kickflip or regular kickflip? So something like a rock to fakie (i know ramp trick for an example for Rodney Mullen doesn't make sense) would be called rock to regular or goofy depending on what stance he rocked in. That is god level right there. But if you were going to call his stance would it be goofy or did he switch to regular?
