      @@karlorodriguez8089 yes! these two, along steve caballero, christian hosoi, and stacey peralta all really put skating on the map, but these two in particular have never took a dip in their lifestyle. skate or die we used to say before these guys all grew up (except stacey) when these guys showed up, so young, so small, we had no idea how they would change literally everything imaginable and legitimize the sport to an extent that.... well, simply legitimizing the sport is the legacy of rodney and tony. the best of the best of the bones brigade.

      I mean, credit where credit is due.....Mullen invented the flatground ollie, the basis for just about every single ground trick used today, and several vert tricks. That alone ranks him in the top slot, IMHO.

He's so private with his skateboarding, which he has every right to be, and his standards are so high, that I'm certain he wouldn't share even the gnarliest ideas because they may not meet his personal criteria for a passable trick. • @ghodbc
      @ghodbc 10 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      For sure. Tony is the Rodney Mullen of vert skating, in terms of the tricks created and executed for that platform. That's not even mentioning how Tony brought skateboarding's popularity and acceptability to it's current state. Oh, and he's also really, really good. :)

    • @seign
      @seign 10 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      Actually, you don't really see people hating on Tony like they used to. It's like these days, even the haters have accepted the fact that he's THE most important skater of his generation and probably EVER. You just can't deny the fact that the guy has accomplished so much and not only that but, he's innovated vert so so much along the way. You can't watch a vert run without seeing at least 1 trick that Tony Hawk literally invented. How can people hate on that? They can't. I think back in the day, it was more of a jealousy/competitive thing and now that he's retired from competitive skating, people have just learned to accept his legacy.

    Rodney is such an amazing guy he made Tony Hawk seem like a normal enough person for people to bite at him for something he joked about in an interview 8-15 years ago and huge friends with Rodney for over, god knows, 30-40 years? These professionals are so down to earth, if you listen to Tony everywhere compared to other skaters you know he is pretty humble. He does get some bite at him for being so successful, and Rodney just really gets into skating like Tony. Rodney always said don't poison your individuality. He loves everything anyone says, and understands. Tony is willing to defend himself at times because he really thinks about it in a non-passive order, he takes what you say to him to heart, Tony has a lot of heart. Tony brought the whole THPS cast for an interview and you should see how happy Rodney is to see him. Even when Tony hit him with the hard questions, no one is willing to ask the most humble kind man these things but Tony and Rodney are tight like that. So chill everyone. God damn, I wanted to read some good comments about this God and his son Jesus.

As far back as 2004 for me, i was spending most of my time learning primo slides everywhere i went, doing casper stalls on banks, or trying everything i'd seem him do in freestyle, and loved the entirety of the tricks he came up with. Most of my mates used to laugh at me trying to to do truckstands or fingerflips, but it was worth it. You don't see alot of people doing these things nowadays, and it's always fun when you turn up at the skatepark and do casper stalls and flip out of them, everyone freaks out!
