Very clean and nice trick. I feel like Mullen's background in freestyle skateboarding seriously helped advance his bosrd control to the point where he can do all of the tricks he does
Dude has a killer attitude. Love these videos and how he analyzes and breaks down the trick. Makes you remember how crazy ahead of his time Mullen was.
Mullens is such an amazing skater. The tricks that most do today started with him. The joy you hear in his voice when talking about skating is awesome. I would love to meet him one day or catch one of those Mullens sightings that I heard of. Listening to his Ted talk is also inspiring. I think he could also teach others in simple to understand steps to be a pro in a short time period.
Holy Crap. How is this even POSSIBLE lol Incredibly impressive. How does someone even think. "hmmm know, Imma dooo This" and Bam new impossible trick lol Thank you Rodney Mullen without you skateboarding would never have been what it is today
Often tricks happen by accident. Like when Im feeling experimental with my board, Ill just try random stuff and see what happens. Or I do my usual tricks in a different way. Every now and then something weird happens and if you can repeat that, congratulations new trick. At least this is true for underflips and late flips - they happen accidentally.
Watched one vid (treflip-darkslide) and I'm hooked. Love your attitude, process, and sticktoitiveness. I'm 33 and I lost the ability to skate at 21 due to a car accident which shattered my leg and did plenty of nerve damage, so now I watch.
I wish this were Instagram so I could give you a "love" reaction, I'm sharing this to my 14 year old brother Peyton whom just got into skateboarding. Thank you for your channel, content, energy, & hard work.
Johnny, your enthusiasm and love for the art of "the process" and practice are inspiring. Those skills are transferrable to any difficult endeavor that's worth doing well. Bravo!
Would love to see a video Of a Johnny explaining tricks and what makes them more difficult then the average trick. As a person who doesn't skate and watches I loved seeing him break this down.
Love Rodney's tricks and its awesome to see you explain them like this! props for getting this man and for even trying it! also that grip art is sick ;)
Thanks for breaking it down. Rodney is from a distant planet - you should get points for even trying to understand his tricks - amazing your actually doing them !
I hate all the "extreme death defying" bs, but I love seeing the technical stuff and the art to it, so this series is really great, good stuff. Nailing such an amazing looking move must feel so good, well done. Crazy how Rodney always made it look almost effortless.
Great attempts dude! That semi flip always blew my mind, so hard when really understand whats happening. Andy Anderson has some pretty good old-school Rodney-style-freestyle tricks, these days, including a semi variation. One thing I wanted to point out: notice how tucked up Rodney's knees are at the top of his semi. He's pulling his feet up with his whole body to flip the board, which is I think why his board flips so slow and steazy like it does (vs late-flip flicking it fast the most people try it). In other words, use ankle pivot to balance the board on your foot, and not flick it, but pump your feet up giving the board a slower flip motion.. Idk LOL that sounds impossible but many things Rodney did/does are so... Great series - looking forward to watching the rest of these.
It's so hard I feel like if you didn't skateboard you wouldn't understand why it was so hard. Maybe that's why he was so good, nobody told him it was almost impossible
I know this is an old video but thanks for making it. As someone who has never been a skater but always been amazed at how people can skate these video's are great. Breaking down each trick is like crack to me. And Mullen is a god. Thanks again!
Such a beautiful trick. You and I are similar as far as not stopping until you get a trick dialed down and perfect. When I learn a new trick I won't film it until I actually get it super clean. Not that I'm comparing myself to you, you're absolutely insane. Mad respect to you
Steezy but Sleezy strategy man, but i once tried a nollie late double flip, landed it perfect first t, was super stoked but unable to reland it on film 😂
I always wanted that Rodney would be the only one who could pull off these tricks just so he could stay the king forever. But props to this guy. I subscribed
John jacobjingle nah mannnnnn, Tony Hawk it the best mannnnn, like he’s totally way cooler brooo Haha but seriously when I was a kid I played THPS a bunch on gameboy, and this video is great cos it brings back so many memories of countless hours of free playing and trying to build up points. I’ve never been a good skater but it’s very cool to see others getting after it I don’t really follow skating now, but have any of the young guys managed to surpass the crazy skills of guys in the 90’s and early 2000’s? I know freestyle moto and bmx and scooters have gone mental with the nitro crew, but are there modern skaters doing what Bam and Tony and Rodney and the boys did back in the day?
Rodney Mullen is a legend. I've tried to pull off some of his tricks when I was younger, and failed 99.9% of the time. I'm too old and too fat to try now. I'm impressed with your efforts to try to explain how to pull them off. Could have done with your vids 20 years ago.
Props to you for landing it...but is it just me or when mullen does it or just skates in general it just AMAZING...Mullen was just our gift to skating......
The secret to getting the Semi Flip right, is pointing the index finger of your left hand as you jump. Seriously though, I have noticed this with a lot of people who do some sort of sport that includes jumping and body positioning. An old friend of mine, Daniel Ilabacca, who does Parkour/Freerunning, does the finger point to. There was a photo of him in the kitchen of his parents house where he was doing a 360 Gainer off of something, and he was pointing his index fingers in the directions of the flip, and in videos, you could see that he would end up pointing towards the floor to spot his landing.
@@JonnyGiger I see alot with gymnasts and well anyone who uses there body to move around in odd directions I suppose. I think #SkateGod Lance would have benefited from opening up just one finger from his clenched fists, then he would have gone full #SkateGod
This is a common practice in Japan called Shisa Kanko. The first to do this was train drivers but is now widely used in industry. From wiki: "Making large gestures and speaking out the status helps keeping focus and attention". There's probably a connection with your friends method and this :)
I've seen this type of thing in other areas like hacky sack ....a lot of my friends that would pull off crazy tricks always held their hands weird or would curl their arm into their chest. Pitchers in baseball are taught to follow their glove hand doing like a windmill motion as they came over with their throwing arm and it actually does improve your accuracy by quite a bit. We had a couple side arm pitchers that would out throw most people in the league when it came to speed but we had dudes at 12yrs old pitching 80+mph and could put it anywhere they wanted it.
Woooooow, taught me something, this rodney guy, ust be the shyt, looks/ sounds incredibly hard yet incredible. Greaaat efforts involved & cudos 2 you 4 landing it.
I heard skateboarding gets to the point where its no longer what tricks you can actually do but what your mind frame is when you do them. I would like to see a video on discussing mind sets when you skate, maybe some refocusing points or mantras to keep in mind when we skate.
This is pretty cool to watch watching you do tricks from the Godfather of skate. Even at shows no other skater is willing branch out and do the tricks that the pioneers of skate laid out for them. It would be killer to see Rodney's tricks done at xgames
I got into skateboarding fairly hardcore in my teens because of Rodney Mullens video on Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1. This guy blew my mind. Before this I didnt ever care to own a skateboard because the roads are rough in the country, but seeing what this guy could do on a small piece of flat ground changed my life and gave me many memories of attempting his tricks. My favorite combo to do would be a primo, primo flip into Casper, Casper flip land it. I got pretty good at it in my prime but it took years of practice, I could never slide on any of them though. Me and my neighbor friend didn't know how to skate board so we learned together and would show new things we had leaned. One of my favorite things we would do is put a skate deck on a trampoline and pretend like were doing big air halfpipe tricks.
I subscribed, Rodney Mullen has always been my favourite so it's nice to see someone trying to do some of his craziest tricks. I taught myself how to Space Walk( juggle) and Casper stall, Casper flip and that funny ballerina nose pivot body varial spin around thing.. Lol I'm getting too old now though and haven't kept up with it so I don't think I could even do a Casper flip anymore

@@jacobramirez7027 I'm assuming the knee pads helped by not ruining his knees as quickly as skaters do now not wearing pads...
The trick was awsome props for landing it but that mustache is the king of the video i can t get over it 👌
haha thanks man been working hard on growing it hahaha
Ezechiel 25-17 lmao funny cuz it’s true
Amazing man. I sadly gave up skateboarding over a decade ago, Rodney Mullen was definitely someone I looked up to.
Holy Crap.
How is this even POSSIBLE lol
Incredibly impressive. How does someone even think. "hmmm know, Imma dooo This" and Bam new impossible trick lol
Thank you Rodney Mullen without you skateboarding would never have been what it is today
Well Mullen invented the Impossible while injured and sitting down 😂
Often tricks happen by accident. Like when Im feeling experimental with my board, Ill just try random stuff and see what happens. Or I do my usual tricks in a different way. Every now and then something weird happens and if you can repeat that, congratulations new trick. At least this is true for underflips and late flips - they happen accidentally.
I have no idea who you are but this was a good watch bro. You learned it in 2 days so Im guessing you are pretty good at what you do. 10/10
U should put ur final trick edit next to rodneys for comparison itd be cool. good job man hope ur channel grows now
jam emann yes do this
I was thinking hinting the same thing & maybe a thanks/shout out to who evers trick he's doing 🤘🏼👍🏼👊🏼😀
Watched one vid (treflip-darkslide) and I'm hooked. Love your attitude, process, and sticktoitiveness. I'm 33 and I lost the ability to skate at 21 due to a car accident which shattered my leg and did plenty of nerve damage, so now I watch.
I love this video, and the format. Keep it up mate!
that guy that pulls his pants down at 4:00
nice one, did not see it until you mentioned it. xD
Challenge Channel haha i didn‘t even notice editing 😂
Was getting ready to say that. Except I was going to say it cooler.
The PORNSTACHE is attracting naked men!
Dario?
nice one to save for BATB next year...
I really really hope they call my boy Giger to BATB next year.
Yeah wish they would do another pros vs Joe's again
except giger isnt a joe anymore lol i mean any revive pro is a joe as far as BATB standards go but i'd be remiss if i didnt correct you lol
They are scared of what the new Jonny would bring to the BATB. I'd like to see Jonny and Mike Mo next year, round 1
people still watch the berrics lmaoooooo
I wish this were Instagram so I could give you a "love" reaction, I'm sharing this to my 14 year old brother Peyton whom just got into skateboarding. Thank you for your channel, content, energy, & hard work.
Johnny, your enthusiasm and love for the art of "the process" and practice are inspiring. Those skills are transferrable to any difficult endeavor that's worth doing well. Bravo!
Would love to see a video Of a Johnny explaining tricks and what makes them more difficult then the average trick. As a person who doesn't skate and watches I loved seeing him break this down.
they might as well put the semiflip description in chinese, wouldn’t make a difference. Also 4:00 lol.
Ein Dude 😂😂😂😂
Going through the comments..... you're like the only other person to notice that lololol
Love Rodney's tricks and its awesome to see you explain them like this! props for getting this man and for even trying it! also that grip art is sick ;)
Marc Swan thanks man! my gf is responsible for the grip art 💪🏼🙏🏼
4:00 Is it just me or do I smell something?
the legend who invented so many flat ground tricks
Thanks for breaking it down. Rodney is from a distant planet - you should get points for even trying to understand his tricks - amazing your actually doing them !
The other thing rodney does in the video is he lets the board hang on his back foot before he flips it. You flip it as soon as you kick it.
Well yeah but Rodney can float.
Exactly
He's a fraction of a fraction of the skater Mullen is so ya that's the only way he can get it done
To be fair, he doesn't have the slo-mo hack and the moon gravity turned on like Rodney.
So excited to have come across this video series! Well done and thank you!
I'm impressed by your foot precision ! All the thing to be done in such a small time. Wow ! Thanks ! :-)
I love that smile on his face when he feels like he's starting to get it.
I hate all the "extreme death defying" bs, but I love seeing the technical stuff and the art to it, so this series is really great, good stuff. Nailing such an amazing looking move must feel so good, well done. Crazy how Rodney always made it look almost effortless.
Respect! I was screaming yess right before you did when you landed it at the end lmao
Your camera quality is amazing ‼️
Props man it's nice to someone trying to do some of his tricks.
4:00 still bright outside and the full moon is up 😴
And he shakes the guts hand 50 seconds later
Rodney said that "it wasn't that hard" hahahahaha
haha of corse! that's why he's the goat :D
It's so hard I feel like if you didn't skateboard you wouldn't understand why it was so hard. Maybe that's why he was so good, nobody told him it was almost impossible
Rodney also said that once you understand the positioning of the feet and body, any trick is easy.
@nigling his TED talk is pretty legit, check it out
@nigling yea he has been doing a bit of inspirational talks
It seems like a beginning of a great series! :) awesome that you nailed the semi flip, it looked awesome! :)
uhhh thanks man :) we'll keep it up!!
Amazing trick! Love the majora grip too!
Ryan Tye 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I know this is an old video but thanks for making it. As someone who has never been a skater but always been amazed at how people can skate these video's are great. Breaking down each trick is like crack to me. And Mullen is a god. Thanks again!
Ill be honest bro you're the most talented skater in my opinion. Ive always been a lover of technical flat ground and you are 100/10 so amazing
liking the format Jonny, keep this series up. Get Dario to try one with you
Evan Garland i will!
Jonny Giger It just be like that sometimes
Awesome! Great idea for a series!
Long time fan of yours but first time commenting :)
That was sick my dude keep it up!
I always wanted that Rodney would be the only one who could pull off these tricks just so he could stay the king forever. But props to this guy. I subscribed
The fact that you learned the trick so quickly is insane. Good job man!
Moral of the story is that Mullen is the best street skater ever, forever. But it's fun watching you try 😂..You are not alone
John jacobjingle nah mannnnnn, Tony Hawk it the best mannnnn, like he’s totally way cooler brooo
Haha but seriously when I was a kid I played THPS a bunch on gameboy, and this video is great cos it brings back so many memories of countless hours of free playing and trying to build up points. I’ve never been a good skater but it’s very cool to see others getting after it
I don’t really follow skating now, but have any of the young guys managed to surpass the crazy skills of guys in the 90’s and early 2000’s? I know freestyle moto and bmx and scooters have gone mental with the nitro crew, but are there modern skaters doing what Bam and Tony and Rodney and the boys did back in the day?
@GuitarMusic I was about to say these are two whole different things
Realmente é legal vê ele tentando kkk
I have to stop watching Rodney mullen every time I take my skateboard in the street and try ..i am 54 years old..injured every time 😪
Me too. But the first time i did a primo to casper was at age 30, twoish years ago. Took me two hours and multiple rash on my hips and elbows.
Best video I've seen on your page so far
then you should watch the flatground project!
When tony hawk 2 came out everybody was still on Tony Hawk, I was always like woah RODNEY MULLEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was a photo of him in the kitchen of his parents house where he was doing a 360 Gainer off of something, and he was pointing his index fingers in the directions of the flip, and in videos, you could see that he would end up pointing towards the floor to spot his landing.
haha shh don't tell anyone my secret ;) there are other skaters who do that too! funny right?
@@JonnyGiger I see alot with gymnasts and well anyone who uses there body to move around in odd directions I suppose. I think #SkateGod Lance would have benefited from opening up just one finger from his clenched fists, then he would have gone full #SkateGod
This is a common practice in Japan called Shisa Kanko. The first to do this was train drivers but is now widely used in industry. From wiki: "Making large gestures and speaking out the status helps keeping focus and attention". There's probably a connection with your friends method and this :)
I've always pointed. Always.
8:15 Superb. Well done man.
Attempting Rodney Mullen tricks? Awesome, and daunting video concept! Well done!
Great idea!
The three C's, Confidence, concentration, control
This is the most out there idea I’ve ever heard for a skate video.
@hahahaha, thanks Deepak, anymore word salad you want to spew out.
im14 andthisisdeep
Yes Jonny, I though it looked great on day 1, but the day 2 lands were perfect
Jack McMullan 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
😅😅😅i remember when i was skate, i love hospital flip with all its variations🌚👌...but now,i can not do it
This is one of the few tricks in this playlist I can actually do!
"That's how it works! Figure out what you're doing wrong... do it right... And thats the thing"
Words to live by
"Figure out what you're doing wrong, do it right."
- Jonny Giger
XDD
I'm convinced Rodney Mullen is a CGI model character.............. cuz humans can't do what he does.
Mullen literally has The Matrix level control of his board. Totally insane.
Before this
I didnt ever care to own a skateboard because the roads are rough in the country, but seeing what this guy could do on a small piece of flat ground changed my life and gave me many memories of attempting his tricks.
I late blackfoot triple liked this video, switch!
I late bLackfoot triple thank you
Jonny Giger oh my autocorrect 😂 this is one of your best vids in a while. Looks like a lot of effort and it pays off.
Video for proof please
I'll sub if so
Very very very very very clean!!!! Awesome! How do you do all of this?!)))
Ещё Один Скейтер patience 🙏🏼😇
Rodney is a Manual God!
I'll still try and at least ride till I die tho
Beautiful! Very well done, thank you for the breakdown.
Luan Olivera has gotten pretty fluid at the English dialect, nice
Takes a genius to understand a genius.
why has no one called him Father of skateboarding? dude literally created almost every trick
They call him. The godfather
everyone calls him the godfather of skateboarding
Such a cool flip...bravo for getting it clean
Rodney has always fascinated me s a true outlier. Its so incredibly rare with anything that evolves
