  • What's the point of driving a JEEP if the 4x4 system FAILS??
    This 2015 Jeep "Cherokee" came in with a "SERVICE 4WD" message, and the transmission is shifting weirdly at 125k miles.
    After doing some research, and telling the customer the BAD NEWS,
    this car left a sour taste in my mouth...Is it a LEMON?

      @sblagg627, one of my school teachers had one, I drove it a few times - related to school work and it had good power/torque. I liked it. Nothing like all this new computerized garbage that's tripping the MIL light every 2-3 weeks, requiring "$500 just to diagnose and another $2,000+ to repair" at the stealership....

    Amen to comment about cars being over computerized and mechanically weak! Computers are where the manufacturer is spending their R&D money now. Pretty color touch screens and advanced features sell cars.

    Thanks for the video. Thank God I have a 2004 Honda Element that I bought new. Only have replaced intake manifold gasket and VTEC solenoid. I have 230,000 miles and service it routinely. i would love to have a new car but unfortunately most of them are junk.

    I've owned many Cherokees and Grand Cherokees. The last was a 1998 JGC with the big 5.9. All were amazing but sadly I will not own another. This video is just one more on the internet that confirms my position.

    It's funny, when electronically shifted 4WD first became popular, everyone hated the complexity and the possibility of losing 4WD when you need it most. But at least you could replace individual parts; transfer case shift motor, axle/hub disconnects, 4WD selector buttons, etc. Nowadays, manufacturers feel the need to integrate EVERYTHING and make none of it serviceable. One little problem and you're replacing entire driveline components. I love my 2001 Expedition more and more everyday for the simple fact that damn near everything on it is serviceable.

    I have a 91 S-10 Blazer. It goes into 4wd every time I shift the mechanical linkage into that range. Gosh, somehow it works without electronics and modules. Imagine that!

    And folks wonder why I'm so adamant on keeping my 1993 C1500 running... Earlier this Summer I spent a couple of months chasing an internal electrical issue with the 4L60E transmission. After fixing that problem, the shifter shaft seal decided to start an every-ten-minute drip. Most likely due to my excessive PRNDL shifting diagnosing the electrical issue and the 30 year old seal.
    Up on the jack stands it goes again for a rather uneventful shifter shaft seal removal and replacement. Easy peasy!
    Modern cars have a 10 year lifespan given all the modules, software, and unnecessary tech in them.
    No thank you!

    Videos like this is why I still own, 2, 1998 Chevy trucks, a 1992 Chevy Cavalier, and a 1970 Monte Carlo. My newest vehicle is a 2014 Mustang GT which knock on wood, has been pretty reliable but it only has about 36,000 miles on it so it may be too soon to tell.
    The one problem with keeping these older vehicles going is that it's hard to get quality replacement parts. The 92 Cavalier has been pretty reliable except for ICM's and coils and none of the replacement parts last long including the AC-Delco parts that I last bought. I'm still going to keep these things going for as long as possible.

    It's funny that we still think of a 2015 as a "New car", when it's actually 8 years old and is not new at all. I still think of early 2000's vehicles as "new cars" because I graduated high school in 2000 and they were brand new back then; so I have to catch myself and realize that so many years have passed since then. :) .. I do understand your "new car" sentiment though: the new era- when cars are supposed to be designed more fancy but instead they are just more prone to breaking. They tried to "fix" things that weren't a problem. 90's and early 2000's vehicles were great designs and we need to go back to those simpler rugged times... before they were slapping everything including the horn on a can bus.. before auto start stop.. before cylinder deactivation.. before particulate filters.. even before variable valve timing.. before AWD when 4x4 meant you had 4H and 4L.... but definitely after carburetors and distributors. There's a peak time there in the middle where we had fuel injection and coil on plug engines--- and Nothing else.. and they ran forever. I still have two vehicles from 2002. lol.. 2002 F350 7.3L 6spd 4x4.. and 2002 Acura MDX. I'm afraid to get anything newer.

    I had a 2015 Cherokee. It felt like a fine running car until my first oil change when the dealer disabled second gear because the ZF transmissions were failing in second gear. From then on it was the worst performing dangerous POS to drive. The transmission would overheat in traffic and the 4WD system would disengage in sand or mud as soon as I needed it.
    It was a swindle by FCA for sure and they never made it right so I will never buy another FCA product again.

      What a shame..unfortunately FCA gets the blame for something that they didn't design or build. The whole thing is purchased from ZF a " fine " piece of German engineering on display.

    It's a shame what they've done to Jeep as a brand. I had a 1993 XJ over here in the UK. It was a great vehicle whose only drawback was its thirst, which I improved by fitting a stainless replacement manifold (the original had cracked). Ended up getting 22 mpg (Imp) 18.3 mpg (US) - plus 20%!

      Cracked manifold > to much air > ECU is commanding the injectors to spray more fuel in. This is called a MAP problem: pressure in manifold wrong.

      Well Keep is laughing all the way to the bank. I agree ,too many electronics on vehicles today. It's seems to be the majority of recalls and repairs on most modern vehicles.

    Common failure in all vehicles. The engineers cram those right by exhaust manifolds and put a half of a quart of fluid in them. To make matters worse they sell the new unit with the fluid already in them. If you look at the service interval table you will see no mention of that unit. So many vehicles are designed to fail. Transmissions with no serviceable filter, internal water pumps, and on and on it goes. Expensive junk. Jeep, Ford,Chevy doesn't matter.

    Had a friend buy a brand new jeep grand Cherokee (told him it was a mistake). It made it through the test drive and halfway home and never started again. They lemoned it 4 months later after a fight but had sold his trade in.

    Great video Ivan. My 2016 Caravan radio got cooked in the multi 100 degree heat this summer and it was as much to fix as me buying an upgraded radio with navigation and Android Auto/ Car play and it retained the factory steering wheel buttons. These factory radios constantly have the amps burn out I think due to no van internally to vent excess heat. But I'll give Dodge this, the radio to less than a hour to remove and install the new one including wiring everything. I always say with Dodge "If it ain't broke yet, it will be"

    Apparently, a transfer case with an external shift motor is no longer a thing... Ford has been using PTUs also on AWD vehicles, such as Explorers, which fail too often as well. Its a small unit that overheats and leaks the gear oil until there is catastrophic damage! Great cost saving idea 👍

      You can change the oil on a Ford PTU. We had it done twice on the SHO we owned. The unit works fine if you insist on having the PTU oil changed every 40k to 50k miles.

      @@buckhorncortez Some of those PTUs do not have a drain plug. You have to remove it and take it apart to try and service it. FordTechMakeYouLoco talks about this. The replacement PTOs do have a drain plug, and even though it's still a PITA, you can at least change the fluid.

    That 9-Speed ZF tranny is one wonky transmission. Loves to shift and does so constantly. Going over a small overpass on the highway I counted 8 shifts to do so. It can get confused at times by so much shifting hat it will go into limp mode, luckily a quick reset will fix it. For long trips on the highway I just manually keep it in high gear and go. One other thing, don't ignore the fluid change interval, you don't want to have to replace that unit.

      Yeah. 9 speeds is to many for a computer to change. I would just drive it manually using the paddle shift. Connected to a petrol engine with a much larger power band than a diesel I really can't believe it yields much fuel savings.

    The only REAL PROBLEM I have with my 2 90's Jeep's are FREAKIN RUST, here in N.E. PA. THE OLE RUST BELT.
    Both have the OLE RELIABLE 4.0 ENGINE'S & SELEC-TRAC. VERY EASY TO WORK ON & PRETTY CHEAP TO REPAIR, PARTS ARE EVERY WHERE.

    Have replaced about 25 ptus. That 4.0hrs labor is a joke. Its all of 6-7hrs if everything goes as planned. If not under warranty we always double the time

      Just make sure you keep changing your timing belt every 100k and you'll be good for 500,000miles!

      40,000 miles. That's how many my babied 2014 has, and just trashed its transmission. I'm waiting for diagnostic confirmation from. the dealer service shop, but I'm fairly certain I'll be donating it to a salvage yard. Maybe someone can enjoy my leather seats.

    They're junk seen this same issue on multiple vehicles already, got lucky on one doing a ptu and transmission relearn on one that actually got the code to go away and the service 4wd light but it's just a band-aid...not impressed with the quality of a lot of new vehicles. Thanks for sharing 👍!

    Never heard anything good about those Cherokees. A friend had a 2014 V6 Latitude and the rear wheel engagement was always with a noticeable jerk/bump. I own a 2008 Grand Cherokee and fortunately it has only needed a couple batteries, a starter, and an alternator. Otherwise it's been a very reliable vehicle.

      Ever since the DaimlerChrysler era and the eventual tie-up with Fiat, "Chrysler" has gone downhill. From interior quality and fit and finish to electronics, it has been shocking. I remember in 2015 I didn't believe people when they said the Renegades needed a software update for the window switches until I used them a couple times on a loaner car from the dealer and they suddenly quit working.

      @@scott8919 Well, all cars are like that and have been for a long time. The window switches have not directly operated the window motors in decades. Even things like the brake light switch on the brake pedal, do not directly operate the brake lights. Everything has a computer module. The switch you operate only sends s signal over s bus to a module, and that module decides if it's okay to roll the window down, turn on the brake light, or turn on the radio, shift into drive, etc.

      @@bills6093 I think he meant more that electronic window switches aren't exactly a new invention, they'd been making them for nearly 20 years now, yet they still can't seem to figure it out. Or more likely that they can't get any good engineers/programmers to work under the conditions and pay that they want to give, so they end up with average or below average.

    The real Jeep Cherokee stopped being made around 1989. Great off-roader too. Good luck finding one and the things run forever. And..you can FIX them! The only place I'd take any newer Cherokee off-road is onto my driveway.

    There is a message out for some Jeeps about the PTU - they have a 15 year unlimited mileage on them, so it might be worth looking and seeing if this one is included in the warranty action (I've got a 2015 TH that is in the included group)

    Just passed 333,333 miles on my real Cherokee.
    It doesn't have computers that fail, which is a large part of why it's still going at 300k+ miles.
    Can buy anything I need to fix on it at NAPA, usually in stock.

    Good morning from Texas. I think that cars have become way to complicated, to much reliance on steeping motors and solenoids and computers, how about going back to a manual transfer case level, and things like a mechanical speedometer and a stand alone radio and other things that make the car less dependent on electronic technology. I can understand using technology to control engine emissions but these cars are becoming like military jets for every hour you drive them you have an excessive maintenance cost.

    The Uconnect infotainment system has to be replaced. Everything works except the GPS function. Basically the chip responsible for the GPS location gets too hot and goes bad, and is not a software problem. I was able to buy a rebuilt one from the dealer for $600 with a two year warranty, and have not had any problems since. But that begs the (rhetorical) question - what happens when the computers and their software updates are no longer available? So much for keeping your vehicle more than a few years.

      If you can buy the GPS chip separately, then someone can probably replace it for half the price. Begs the question though why you'd do it instead of just using your phone...

      The real question is why spend ANY $$$ on FCA/Stellantis nav when the end result will be constantly outdated maps? The last one I was offered was over a year old “update” for $99.

      @@rkan2 the telematics chip is not sold to the public and is surface mounted which is beyond my capabilities to remove and replace. I checked it out. I actually put a temperature sensor and data logger on the units heat sink and the temperature exceeded 120 degf in an air conditioned vehicle. Thought about drilling holes in the back but ultimately bought a replacement unit with a warranty.

      @@tonylewis4661 Sure, any sufficiently capable repair shop could do the replacement. That is the easy part. But if you obviously cannot get the chip.. That is more and more the problem that is the problem.

    OMG: Ivan, I have been working on my Brother's 2015 Cherokee Trailhawk with the two speed rear differential with the same dash warning that the 4WD system isn't available. Its been a nightmare partially due to my Thinktool Pros introducing fault codes that are really not there and sending me down rabbit holes. Everytime I used the "Pros", the car goes crazy with codes like a shifter assembly, then steering angle sensor, then power steering codes and on and on. Sometimes I couldn't erase the codes to get rid of the check engine light. Finally, I cleared them with a cheap code reader. On my second round of diagnosis, a few weeks later, I used an Autel BT906 and finally I got just the drivetrain codes which indicate the rear drivetrain module which is another term for the entire rear differential. This two speed differential uses hydraulic fluid and a pump. And it says you have to replace the entire unit that is not available even if you wanted to buy one. If you want to check the hydraulic fluid, you have to lower the rear differential 4" to remove the top cover and then do a differential bleed procedure. Right now, my brother just drives it in two wheel drive (130,000 miles on it). So for me its a double whammy - My Thinktool Pros doesn't scan correctly and then I have to deal with no parts available. Terrible engineering and quality. As far as the autostop not working, you may find the battery to be the culprit. My brothers autostop quit working which he was happy about. Then his battery went bad and as soon as it was replaced, the autostop started working again.

    I never got into programming Jeep/Dodge either. There are 3 different fee structures you have to pay to have access. Got 1/2 way through the process and gave up. Too much $ involved to program one of these. GM/Ford are fairly streamlines and are reasonably priced for access.

      Yeah it’s stupid. I do it occasionally when I have to but you have the witech subscription, the flash programming subscription, and the tech authority service information subscription which I’m pretty sure you have to have to unlock the secure gateway. Before you can get started with Witech aftermarket you have to request your J box and device be authorized by them which took two days for me. These manufacturers are intentionally making things harder to access to deter most people from doing it. Nissan now has a secure gateway and you can’t even use autoauth for them yet because Nissan hasn’t enabled it. I had to use the consult RTR the other day to do everything I needed to do. It was a 2021 Sentra and I was actually surprised it let me program a new rack and pinion because it’s tied in with the immobilizer on that car. It’s gotten so convoluted that it’s hard to know ahead of time what you’re capable of doing and what you’re not.

    Ivan, if you get this car back again for the navigation issue, check to see if the satellite radio works. Channel 184 is always free even without subscription.
    On my 2015 Grand Cherokee, with similar audio system, the satellite and GPS antennas share a housing and cable.
    If the satellite antenna is disconnected for a long period of time , GPS gradually drifts hundreds of miles away like you’re seeing.
    If satellite radio doesn’t work, check the antenna, cable, and cable connections.

      @@mikefoehr235 It'll break. May be more reliable than a Jeep, but all cars have issues. I looked at a friends 2016 Tacoma. It has a great big oil leak from the timing cover, oil pan and rear of the engine. Its an engine out job at 24 hours of labor.

    That thing is a Jeep in name only with all that electronic gadgetry. If I ever buy a NEW one again it just might be a Ford Bronco but I doubt I will ever buy a new one but just keep my 2002 TJ Wrangler Sport going with whatever repairs it takes. I live in Southern California so I don't have rust issues. No cruise control, no anti-lock breaks, no automatic transmission or electric lockers. The air conditioning is not as cold now but it has not been serviced since it was new. Getting that serviced is on my to-do list.

      The Bronco is made from a Ranger pickup. It's not simple like a Jeep.
      They are breaking at Moab.
      Just keep your Jeep and watch everyone else suffer these electronic problems that cost thousands.

    Not great news for the customer but what's to do ? Buying new models can be hazardous with no previous history. Better to buy an older car with proven track record. Very thorough diagnosis and job well done 👍👍👍

    It's Stellantis, the European company that bought Diamler Benz ( or whatever they were calling it ). People were complaining constantly about all of their car brands being all flash but cheaply made and horrible customer satisfaction and garbage warranties. Just look up their history...disgusting. That's when the entire Jeep brand went to crap ( mid-late 2000's ).

    I remember some TH-camrs have found that not maintaining equal tire size and air pressures can contribute to these PTU’s failing early due to slight wheel speed differences front to rear over time.

      It is a printed cautionin many owners manuals about maintaining correct tire size/diameter. it is no secret, but it is so easy to ignore.

    In some(many) automatic gm's , the gears are delayed. I have the same in my opel, i would gear long before the car does. Especially from 2. To 3rd gear. It revs 3.200 rpm before it shifts.

    Idk about Pennsylvania, but here in Georgia we have a lemon law. Basically, if you purchase a new car that is a "lemon" and having to repeatedly have issues fixed within a certain time frame, the dealership must give you a new car.

    Had a 2015 Cherokee work provided transmission went out at 4200 miles after using the remote start. Jeep tech said they were assembled wrong in Italy. $9000 repair to keep OEM for the repair under warranty. Best thing the auto start broke. Had vehicle until 2023 only had 35,000 miles when returned. They asked if i wanted to buy it big no.

      I know it involves RTR but this car could be a yard ornament by the time it's 10 yrs old.
      My 99 Accord I bought new is still going fine. Burns a little oil and paint is faded. But I can say the same thing about this 70 yr old tech who wrote this. 😮

    The main reason they get away with poor build quality is that most people don't have the basic mechanical knowledge they did 30-40 years ago.
    I repaired a transmission fault on a Citroen C4 a few weeks ago, customer owned it 7 years and was totally amazed when I told them it wasnt an automatic transmission, it was a manual transmission with a computer operating the clutch and stick.
    Fault was one of the shift position sensors internally shorted.
    Crazy listening to it clunk up and down the gears when carrying out the relearn procedure!

      I'll have to respectfully disagree with that. I remember starting work as a rookie tech at a Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, GMC dealer in 1988 and wow were those vehicles crap. It does seem that the last decade has brought serious quality issues with all vehicles from all manufacturers with the exception of just a few with grand fathered in older designs.

      @@greggc8088 in Europe in the late 80s a directive came out stating that the minimum design life of a vehicle should be 80,000 miles and then a few years later that was increased to 100,000 miles.
      That sent a lot of shockwaves through the industry and for a long time there were cars made of super high quality with amazing rust protection because we had the close tolerance and repeatability benefits of CAD, CAM and CNC machining but little or no computer simulation of wear and failure modelling.
      The problem was, most people in the mid 90s didn't know that they had an over engineered car that would last forever.
      I'm in England so the whole country is rust belt.
      About the best example of solid engineering you'll see is a '93/'94 Audi 80, there are quite a few being daily driven round my area.
      From 2000 we saw the effects of quality reduction due to wear modelling and shortly after, the change to softer water based paints and the change to lead free solder.
      But the main thing is, convenience features, performance and economy are what sell a car, not engineering quality.
      We have absurdly poor engines like Ford Ecoboost and JLR Ingenium that you're lucky to get 40,000 miles out of before they fail.
      I drive a 21 year old GM car that was made in Thailand, it's done ten times that and not had any internal engine work, it's just starting at show a bit of rust.
      But no worries, I just bought another of same age insanely cheap with only 57000 miles on it and rock solid no rust.

    I have a 2015 that I just picked up 6months ago. It had only 33k on the odo. I had it for 1month from a major dealer. Then one night I got the 4wd service, auto start stop, and a reduced power warning. I was pissed and was getting ready to take it back to dealer. When I came across one internet posting that suggested a new battery. For S&Gs I changed the battery... and bam no more issues. Apparently these model jeeps are extremely sensitive to the battery. My original checked fine, except that the battery tester said 80% life left but, the Cherokee was not happy. Again replaced the battery and all issues disappeared

    wow this is funny i got rid of a 2015 jeep renegade with a 2.4 and 9 speed auto 6 months ago because ever since i bought it used the trans had harsh shifts when it got cold out then about a month before i got rid of it i was getting a service 4x4 light and no one would touch it except the dealer and they wanted 2 grand just to look at it so i pulled the codes with my friends scan tool had over 20 codes and at that point i was just done with the thing and traded it in.

    i had same problem with my 2014 cherokee i posted 4 min video where i pulled out the ptu and took it apart to see what was wrong with it a 20 dollar motor was filled with the oil in the ptu causing it to fail

    Indeed a lot of issues with Jeep. My 1990 Volvo 740 comes with on board diagnostics, a built in tool kit, rust proof break lines, springs that hold the bonnet up, and drain plugs for crank case oil, transmission fluid , and ready for this.. differential fluid. The U joints have fittings for grease. If the timing belt were to break, no worries its a non interferance design. I was able to change out the brushes in the alternator with just a stubby philips, while the alternator was on the car. Something has gone a drift with todays technology...

    Also Ivan on those vehicles if you have to replace the stereo you will need pin code for radio plus change VIN otherwise it wont work properly.and launch is worthless on this situation.

    Mine did a similar thing. 2nd owner, bought mine at Auction. Took it to Jeep, technically the bulletin says I'm eligible for a free PTU replacement. Jeep refused, instead did a reflash that did little to nothing. There are two components that can be replaced. .the 4wd actuator motor on the rear differential, or, the 4wd " brain box" adjacent to the spare tire. To test, unbolt the actuator, car in the air, have someone cycle the selector. ..if it moves, everything is ok'ish. 88% of the time it's the brain box. For now, I start the car, I turn off the traction control and the auto on/off switches. ..that prevents the " service awd" light from coming on at 30mph. Oh and my driveshaft howls ar low speeds...cheap Korean made bearings. Replacement shaft is over 500$..2 hour job on a lift. Sticking with it until noise gets worse.

    I still have a 2003 Chrysler minivan that has been quite reliable and easy/cheap to fix on the rare occasions where something does go wrong. But now it looks like the old Chrysler name has become an embarrassment in the car industry. The recent takeover by Stellantis has been especially disastrous and I think that it is seriously in jeopardy of going under unless it cuts itself free and brings in another Lee Iacocca to rescue what's left of their name.

    It isn't often you send something to the dealer, Ivan. So, you don't think this vehicle is really a "real" Cherokee? I don't think so either. I think the last "real" Cherokee was the old SJ from the "70"s. I guess the 'ol Marquis will need to run forever. At 477,000 miles it is bound to break at some point. Great video!

    I just replaced my engine in a 2008 jeep Cherokee. Lost total compression in #6. 170000 miles on it. $6000.00 for a remanufactured engine and labor. Compared to new or used car prices. That's a bargin

    I had a 17 Grand Caravan last week that had a flash for the HVAC module to prevent water intrusion. I swear Mopar is losing the plot... LOL
    On your newer Mopars, the Auto Stop/Start system will disable itself for most powertrain and drivetrain faults, as well as a failing auxiliary battery, though that will almost always set a specific code of its own. Working with body shops, that latter situation is one I run into almost daily. From Chrysler, it's a $300+ battery. For all you Mopar owners out there, you can find Lawn & Garden batteries with equal specs for far cheaper.

    Many of Stellantis products are not doing well these days especially the Jeep brand, in terms of reliability but their holdover vehicles like the LD full size models, Minivans, Ram 1500 and Promaster seem to be doing alright in terms of reliability. The rest of their line up, now that they are switching to electric vehicles ( Chrysler's electrical systems in their vehicles prior to going electric were their major weak point). Funny thing is, it is not the alternator, battery or starter that goes out, it is many of the modules and wiring that either short out or have no grounds due to the cheap metal that results in the ground wires having a poor connection to the ground. Mopar's powertrains in general are decent and durable. The electrical system in Chryslers are the pits!

    Kia is another one with major engine and transmission issues. Our 2017 Kia Soul started using 2 to 3 quarts of oil between oil changes (@ 3,000 to 3,500 miles between oil change). We just change the oil now, when we notice hard usage (@ 1,000 to 1,300 miles).
    Using a quart, in that time frame may be "normal" but not 2 to 3 quarts, between oil changes. I wish we could fix this. The PCV valve was changed and still does it. So that wasn't the issue, as a lot have suggested it is.

      We are keeping a close watch on that. On my TH-cam channel It was brought up, in the comments section, that a class action suit has already been out for this issue but I've not seen it. And I have looked.
      Bottom line is that I'll never own another Kia, ever.

    When I heard that start-stop was an item in this video, I was hoping that Ivan would roast the dual battery system that Chrysler uses in many of their implementations (although I'm not sure on this Cherokee). Hopefully next time. :D

      The auxiliary battery failure will almost always set a specific code, but the Auto Stop/Start system will disable itself over just about any powertrain or drivetrain related fault. I had one disable due to a recently replaced AAT (Ambient Air Temperature) sensor that hadn't calibrated itself yet. :)

    Here in Australia Jeep is known for bad cars and bad support from the dealers. Jeep is in the process of pulling out of Australia to to now poor sales. Personally I wouldnt touch one with a barge pole.

We call that DTC the PTU death code. Especially when someone only puts 2 new tires on it. as tires of different diameter spin at different speeds and burn those clutches right up. I've seen 4 mismatched tires on one of those take out the PTU AND the RDM.

    I had a 2013 Jeep Gran Cherokee but the only issue was with tht DTCM. Replaced it and all good. It would disabled the start stop function.

    As a retired engineer. We are “required” to build in product failure. Cost vs performance. Stuff breaks, and we factored in the best component/performance for the budgeted price. Chrysler should be ashamed! I remember back in the 50, 60, and 70’s Chrysler set the standard for engineering excellence. Definitely not my father’s nor my 70’s jeep.

    Ironically, i've seen that same NAV issue on another Chrysler and a software update didn't fix it. The entire head unit had to be replaced. The dealer tried a) hard reset via battery disconnect, then b) software update, then, after much thought and discontent, had to resort to c) replacing the entire NAV unit to fix the problem.

    The problem with cherokee transfer cases is they are auto all wheel drive so if computer senses wheels spinning at diff rates it engages 4wheel. If your tires have unbalanced tread like new on front and old on back or not rotating them enough it causes transfer case to continuously engage and unengage burning the transfer case out in time. If u have Quadra trac make sure ur rotating tires every 3k to 5k miles and when buying new buy all 4 not just 2. Your welcome
