Well said! When I began my artistic journey I had many obstacles to overcome. I began with kindergarden watercolor, watercolor paper, pencils and sketchbooks from Walmart sitting on a low beach chair with my feet on the bed...no table or easel. I still do not have a studio, but I have easels and profesional paints and canvases. I was serious about learning and worked every day...still do mostly. I had a private showing at a local museum and sold one. I enjoy what I do and honestly understand some people are not going to like what I do, I wont change anything just keep moving. 🖌🎨Thank you for your videos.
Yes. Lack of funds, isolation, rejection, whatever hardship is faced, these are the fertilizers that nurture creativity. It is incredibly rare to find someone who has it all and lives on easy street doing anything actually creative. You almost have to be forced into creativity and growth. So "embrace the suck", "play the cards you're dealt" and "Improvise, Adapt and Overcome." Thanks David.
You make a wonderful case for us to improvise, adapt and overcome. I know that I have felt, many times, the DESIRE for something I cannot afford - and I confuse DESIRE as being a NEED. No, I don’t NEED it to make my art, but I desire it. And so, improvising and adapting, etc becomes something I try to remember, when thinking that “gee, this one brush ($50) will magically make my art better”. It may help, but being right-brained, I try to turn to my creativity to improvise.. Thanks for this valuable reminder!
