    Years ago I also replaced my old RC40 with this Maniflow exhaust!
    It's one of the best exhaust you can get for the classic Mini in terms of performance and noise level! I installed the clamps in the other direction so there is more room under the car! ;)

      @classicminidiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I'm not wild about those u-clamps. If I could use only band clamps I would be much happier. 😅

    I think that you can't really compare the noise level between the two exhaust systems unless they were both new. RC40 is a very nice exhaust system for the money you are paying, but Maniflow is a GRATE one and its worth paying the difference in price 100%. The time will tell. Very nice video!

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      True the RC40 I had was definitely very worn out and was not exactly the same as a new one after a fresh install. Having owned it since it was new I can say I like the maniflow exhaust note much more but the video comparison is the best I could do.

    Here is a tip, I'm not recommending anyone to follow, but it's worked for me over decades on several cars.
    I've owned Minis since about 1968, my first saloon was (and is) a 1962 Basic Mini (was 848 cc). This was soon upgraded to MG 1100 engine spec (12G295 head 3.44 diff. etc. I was fed up with exhaust boxes rotting out from the inside. Was replacing them regularly.
    On old engineer told me to put a cup of cooking oil in the new box when fitting it. I did, the box with the oil, must be 30 years or more ago, box still fine.
    I would not do this if the car is due a test (MOT in the UK), it might fail on emissions! until the excess oil is ejected.

      I have a mini 61 morris 850 with an mg 1100 engine that was swapped in back in the 70s. I bought the car out of an old garage where it was sitting since the 80s. I was wondering how is the power and feel with the mg 1100 swap. As i have never driven this car i was wondering if it felt comparable to a stock 1275 or so? Is the 3.44 gearing decent? Any and all input regarding the mg 1100 engine in a mk1 mini is very appreciated as i cant find anyone else who has done this. My engine code is a 10gr just to confirm it is an mg 1100. Thank you in advance

      Just to add i am in the process of building the car as we speak i ran the engine off of a gas can for a few minutes and it idled like i just parked it the day before so it is a smooth running engine. The car should be ready for a yard drive by the end of the month.

    I'm adding a header to my 1275cc. What about using something simple like a 2" pipe and a Cherry Bomb muffler, straight out the back?
    Really enjoy this site and the videos. When I have talked with 7ent, I tell them how much appreciate their support.

      Thank you so much for saying that to them Barry. :-) I am sure you could do a straight pipe out the back. Even with a straight pipe it might not be unbearably loud actually. The mini isn't THAT loud. Haha

    I don't quite get how the hanger clamps work. Do they hold the exhaust up because you tighten the screws until it's pushing against the floor panel or something. And is there not a bracket to screw into the floor panel to hold up the exhaust. Sorry I'm an absolute beginner and have no clue.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries! So there are kind of like hook brackets that are mounted to the subframe on the mini with a piece of rubber in between. The u-clamp fits over the hook and then the bottom piece with the two screws pulls the exhaust up to the hook and hold it tightly up there. Hope that helps explain it a bit more.

    I just bought a 1980 998cc mini and I was thinking of changing the whole standard exhaust (from the block to the tail pipe; so header, mid pipe, muffler... everything) to a center exist system. What would you recommend for my car since the engine is completely stock. I just want it to be loud and to sound like a little rally car (but to still be legal on the road). I don't drive my car for long periods of time, so I don't really mind if it's a bit "drony". I just want a high quality system that will suit my stock engine and since it's the only mod i'll put on my car this year, the budget is substantial. Can you help me pick the right exhaust system for my car? Thank you

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Given all those guidelines I would probably go down the Maniflow route (stainless if you are looking to drop some coin). Stainless won't rust like a normal steel exhaust would. You could pick up one with just a single box as well. This will make it loud but not obnoxious. The two products linked below this text is a little overkill but would be great and would last a really long time.

    • @classicminidiy

      Whether you run a CAT will be dependent on where you live and the local laws. Some places require them if they were on the car originally. Maniflow sells kits that suit cars with CAT's as well. So you should be able to find something to suit either way. :-)

    Great channel! I just got my first Mini in June and I'm learning a whole lot from your videos. Thanks for that.
    Question: did you have to make any changes to the carb or ignition setup after installing the Maniflow exhaust? I put a new Maniflow 1.75in exhaust on mine (1978 1330) and now it won't idle below 2000rpm. Any thoughts?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Thomas! Congrats on your first mini! The carb and ignition didnt need any changes when I swapped out this exhaust system though depending on how restrictive your previous setup was there is a small chance you may need to adjust your fueling. In general though its very rare, when you swapped in the new exhaust, did you change the intake/exhaust manifold gasket? They are not reusable, so if you kept it you probably have a vacuum leak.

    • @ThomasBrobst
      @ThomasBrobst 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@classicminidiyI installed a Maniflow exhaust and downpipe... I didn't remove the intake or exhaust manifold from the head so I wouldn't think their gaskets are the problem. That said I do suspect I created an intake leak somewhere. Thanks for your help. And great channel!

  • @SebastianPoortman
    @SebastianPoortman 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you accidentally put the wrong link to the Mounting System, it's the link for the RC40 exhaust.
    I bought a Maniflow stage 2 Manifold with a Maniflow 1 7/8 single box centre exhaust. How do i mount the exhaust? I've read some forums which say i have to drill holes in the subframe and mount it there with screws.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's correct. The rear mount generally has to be drilled and mounted. The RC40 brackets actually work really well for most of the prefab mini exhausts on the market. 👍🏼

  • @BiscuitAdvisory
    @BiscuitAdvisory 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    this might be a dumb question but if I wanted to replace my stock manifold with LCB, do I need to remove the engine to get access? (and is it worth replacing the manifold?)

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a dumb question! Removing the stock manifold can be done with the engine in place. It can be a bit fiddly to get the old out and the new in but its totally possible. :-) You will need to drop the full rear section of the exhaust which is just a matter of unbolting the hangers.

  • @flundran
    @flundran 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! Do you use the C-AHT98 to clamp the manifold to the gearbox for extra support? I've been using my freeflow manifold without it and it seems to work anyway (for a year so far)

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I definitely do. It helps prevent clunking and clanking down there. It will work without it but helps keep things in place when the motor shifts during regular driving.

    Hi Cole, I just got my mini back from the shop that was rebuilding it. They put on the RC40 on which is mind numbingly loud inside the car. I came across your video here and was wondering how big a difference changing your exhaust made in r noise level in the cabin. Was it worth the effort and the cost?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is the way I found the RC40 on my car as well. Was a solid exhaust but way too loud and drony for me. I am curious if you have a single or dual muffler option. The single muffler options are always gonna be a good bit louder.

    Great videos! I have a 1991 Mini City. I'm looking to get an aftermarket exhaust but don't have a garage or anything to fit it in. It has the original exhaust and manifold. I've seen a thing called a magic down pipe, or a big bore down pipe that says you need it if you don't want to change to an LCB manifold. Can you explain?? What do i need?
    Just dicovered your channel and it's just what the mini community needs!
    Thanks :)

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never heard of a magic downpipe personally. If you want to keep a 3 to 1(3 pipes into 1 pipe) header and still use a maniflow exhaust you will need the connector between the header and the exhaust.
      Linky: www.7ent.com/products/pipe-adapter-freeflow-header-to-maniflow-sysyem-l71.html
      This replaces the 3 to 2 headers(3 pipes down to 2) piece you can see linked below. Hope this helps

      Rhys Lister sorry to jump in here, 1.75 inch diameter is optimum for a 998, any larger and you will start losing power or at least not gain as much. Either the Rc40 or maniflow are good choices.
