That's why what Hasbro and WotC is so upsetting. They took a deep tcg game sculpted awesome lore and art and are mistreating it and the people that support it.
I was going to say something about how it's funny that the big set during this time is the one where the evil corporate machines march to claim as much as they can. But I don't want to disrespect Phyrexia like that.
It's good to watch a documentary about Hasbro's board of directors.

Same! I love that they're leaning into the "surreal horror" angle of some of the Old Phyrexian stuff like Plague Spitter.
I'm sure the subversion of the color pie and horror elements specific to each color will be interesting video ideas to expand on once the set releases
@Alexander Ficken I have talked about the preators in the context of the color pie, but getting to see a plane of pure phyrexian creation will be a very interesting twist on the color pie. I will be certain to make a video about that.
Its incredible and makes me so sad we don't have art books anymore. Phyrexia needs one at least
I causality started to get the images and write a rpg campaing based on the phyrexians, their infection and xeno aspect. My players gonna love the story and with all this new arts I can go crazy on the world building!!!!

Gotta love how Kathryn talks about the praetors as if she knows them personally and gets coffee with them regularly, also as a conlang enthusiast I appreciate the work behind phyrexian and hope one day we will be able to read and speak it. It's always these talented and creative people behind these worlds and stories man, i love that, let us have more of that and less greed and nonsense

Love how they describe the compleatition process in many phases, and in the storyline it's still seconds after dying that a character magically turns into a Phyrexian

This is gonna be my fav set of all time I feel, I love new phyrexia and everything in it, it’s speaks to me a way no other world does, I mean I’m a fan of the horrific feel compleation gives off.

I'm interested in learning to read/speak Phyrexian. If I recall, it's a perversion of Thran, specifically that it changed around Yawgmoth's name and epithets, and that the words needed to be pronouncible without lips.
As for the set; I'm glad to see serious stakes in a plot again, and not just "here's 1 hero death, forshadowed, 2 randos we don't feel like writing about anymore, 1 beaurocrat, and 0 villain deaths." I actually feel some loss and have an invested interest. I know it likely won't be what happens, but part of me so wishes to see New Phyrexia start it's march, just for Emrakul and her brothers (c'mon, they've gotta just be licking wounds) to be lead to the plane and consume it entirely.

Kind of wish there was a MTG show or movie or something cause this story is wild.
As someone who plays Magic since '99, this all is really exciting, but this also breaks my heart in so many ways.
So excited for this set, I’ve been taking a break from MTG for about a year and this set I feel is gonna be the one to pull me back in
Wow. I wasn’t sure about getting into Magic, but the card art and designs are beautiful. This might be the expansion to sell me because all of it looks fantastic
Magic is amazing. I really recommend getting into Commander as its the most expressive and creative format. I'm just really hoping WOTC doesn't keep tarnishing the game
For what silly things the executive side gets up to, the world-building and care for art and story has been at an all-time high. Really cool time to be joining the game.
I know plenty of people that got into MTG because of the art, myself one of them. Some of the work made for cardboard playing cards has no right being as good as it is, it's insane.
Seb McKinnon, and Steven Belledin are two of my favorite artists who have done fantastic pieces for MTG. Dark and eerie works, but both very much artists over illustrators.
Be careful. They've just turned on their other big community. I'll miss the game

So... are we gonna get a guide to the Phyrexian language someday? Having a linguist is great and all, but it's hard to really see the linguistic work put into the set when the language is untranslatable (outside of WotC's offices)
There's an article on the Wizard's Website that went up today.
On the flipside, it's also in a way more fun for linguist fans to uncover details themselves, as they've been doing for quite some time. There's a youtube channel (Deciphering Phyrexian iirc) specifically about decoding the language in text, and piecing together what little spoken information is available. It's like a giant puzzle, lol.
I genuinely cannot wait. Stunning work by the artists and everyone in-between.
More of these please, this was amazing. Some Books and Short films, shows would be awesome. MTG has so much potential to make an amazing book/show series. This is a great start.

I hope I can afford things from this set coming out. I was looking to get the Magic 30th anniversary set, that came out not too long ago, but it cost like 1000$ so I couldn’t afford it. I hope I can purchase this set coming out.
I love the linguistic approach to world and character building
The Multiverse is huge. Even if the Phyrexians beat all the heroes, it will take them so long to actually conquer everywhere, Magic can just continue on as normal, as it will be lifetimes before some planes are affected.
Even longer when the next inevitable multiplanar crisis occurs, as the Phyrexians would have to deal with it instead of the heroes.
I hope the Phyrexians win, then we have a multiplanar set(s) focusing on the progress of the multiverse in general. We can finally see the names of all the nations, and their growth as crisis shock strengthens them to being so strong they eclipse what they were. Especially the evil nations, who are underdeveloped, because they cannot do anything useful for evil reasons, or it would interfere with the heroes' plotlines.
We can also see people living their best lives in the taken world, hiding deep underground, in a supernatural realm, in space aboard magical spaceships that never need to land on planets.
We can also see the heroes come up with a stable power structure, and struggling to manage a new nation effectively in the middle of nowhere and while they are really bad at it.

Yawgmoth meaning "Father of Machines" in the Phyrexian language is problematic. In the novel 'The Thran', Yawgmoth is simply his Thran first name. It would be a stretch to claim it already meant Father of Machines in Thran - the coincidence would be a bit much lol. But if the Phyrexian language evolved from the Thran language, which would actually make sense, then the word yawgmoth might have become synonymous with the man's title of Father of Machines.
Someone has a better idea to explain this? It is sadly a continuity error, but I'm ok if we BS until it feels like it makes sense lol
They've been changing around a lot of things. Look at original Kayla bin Kroog vs new Kayla bin Kroog, or original su-chi (and general Thran style) vs current art su-chi (and general Thran style). Way way back when, Urza and Mishra were already planeswalkers during the Antiquities War, but that got revised around Urza Block. I think they're doing something like that again.

bullshit explanation: the Phyrexian language was designed by Yawgmoth and he used his own name as the word for "father of machines"
or whoever designed it did it.

I’d liken it to how Caesar was originally a name but then transitioned into a title over the centuries (ie German Kaiser & Russian Tsar)

The glistening oil kinda reminds me of the black goo from Alien. They’re both mutagenic liquids that are in a way intelligent and both significantly alter one’s body.

See the world building is great and all, but the phyrexian language is comparable to black speech of lotr to me, and seeing phyrexian be expanded and fleshed out is the most exciting thing for me right now
