  • Making music with MIDI is a wonderful thing, and Live’s MIDI Editor gives you a ton of flexibility for creating musical parts, but sometimes you need something a little different to get fresh ideas flowing. In the realm of hardware music-making, sequencers reign supreme and they present a slightly different approach to programming patterns. We can access these kinds of tools using many of the awesome MaxForLive sequencers available. In this video, I focus on one of my personal favourites, the free MDD_____SNAKE device.

    Im a huge Randomiser\Arp\Sequencer fan, just downloaded this and played around and immediately realised how INSANELY strong this is. This could be put into some flashy 3rd party GUI and be sold for $$$. But the maker decided to give it out for free... one of the best M4L devices out there for sure.

    Love this. I own a Rene mk 1 and this is like having a whole bunch of them clocked together + it's way faster to set up. Using it with my Expert sleepers interface so it's sequencing virtual instruments and my modular setup.
    Be nice to have a second ( or third ) set of customisable parameters to assign, but apart from that this rocks.

    There might be a subtle difference between using the internal quantizer and using the scale plug in with regards to random note distribution. It's clearly visible in the c minor example. Some note vales have two 'slots' while others only have one, favoring the notes with two slots over the others.

    I'm having a problem with Snake. Sometimes when I'm doing random stuff in A bleton (changing parameters, moving clips, or even pressing save) the settings on the Snake randomly change so the arp rhythm is different, but all the settings actually appear the same as before, making it impossible to change it back unless you press undo. Its incredibly frustrating having to press undo all the time to reverse whatever glitch it is. Anyone have any pointers?

    • @ELPHNT
      @ELPHNT  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're talking about capturing the MIDI data it generates, the best way to do that is to set up another blank MIDI Track, then at the Input set it to receive MIDI from the Track you've put SNAKE on. Then if you record onto that new MIDI track it will record the output of whatever SNAKE generates.

      If I remember correctly, it's just a square wave with a low filter cutoff (around 250Hz) and a short, snappy filter envelope (probably somewhere around 500ms). Probably also using one of Live's analog filter models. I'm particularly partial to the MS2 one for bass sounds.

      It's the new LFO in Live 10. You might still be using the old LFO from Live 9. So just make sure you've updated to 10 I guess.
