Thank you this was fascinating. Just curious - is there any broadly practical reason you don't begin with digital tools? Or is it just personal preference (i.e. the feel of the media, accustomed to real world media/tools, etc.).
Yeah, personal preference. I started doing this 25 years ago, so it's how I learned to do it. I have a WACOM tablet, but it's pretty old. I bet if I got some of the newer tools and messed around with it, I might like it. That being said, I do like drawing on a piece of paper.

What pen do you use?
I use a uniball roller pen and a variety of different brush pens. Just try a bunch of stuff and see what you like the best.
