- A detailed demonstration of the startup of a late nineteen-twenties Caterpillar model Sixty. During it's years of production, the 60 was the largest crawler in Caterpillar's catalogue, weighing in at 19,000lbs. Built from 1925 until 1931, the 60 was a highly successful design that Caterpillar inherited from the C. L. Best Tractor Company when the Holt Manufacturing Company merged with the former to create the Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1925. C.L. Best had began building the 60 in 1919. Powered by a massive inline four cylinder engine displacing 1128.2 cubic inches (18.5 litres), the sixty developed 72 flywheel horsepower at a mere 650 RPM. Top speed is stated at 3.6mph (5.8km/h). The sixty excelled at both industrial and agricultural jobs and continued to do so long after machines where fielded to replace it. Pioneer Acres Museum, Irricana, Alberta.

Stumbled upon this place while on a road trip with my wife. Talked her into going. She was bored to tears and we walked around for almost 5 hours and I didnt want to leave grinning war to ear. We were the only people there in september a few years ago and the people were kind enoughto let us tour the truck restoration exhibit on our own. What an amazing collection. Had a great time. Thank you

check fuel comming , check ignition point setted right-if you dont know that - tell me how many cylinders,and is it stright 4, v4,stright6, v6 , or v8- i can tell you witch piston must be up first and witch ventils must be open, or closed for to get it working...

I grew up riding in my Grandpa's 5400 so I have a love for John Deere but it saddens me to hear that kind of DRM, field-serviced equipment they have.
Ah well, at least I don't have to deal with that playing FS19.

Great video! Really enjoyed seeing it as my grandfather had one of these machines with a dozer. Never understood why he sold it until I watched this startup routine. He replaced it with an Allis Chalmers HD7 and later replaced that with the Caterpillar D4 that I still have. Alot of work done by crawlers over the years.
Imagine riding this beast with a couple of mounted machineguns into a battle like " alright rusty boi, ready for one last ride?" And then going down with this beast in the manliest way possible

Steam traction,and multifuel engines,will rule the roost,and vultures also will have come calling!! Simply put,far too much dependence on technology that is far too delicate! can just imagine, one early morning you just finished you morning coffee, you walk you and begin work for the day. first you gotta go thuogh the process and start this beast up, and get it ready for a day of construction or farm work etc. just the sound alone to me sings mornings for some reason, and a day of hard work, idk why XD

Nice Sixty and it started so easy (Heath and Safety are not involved as I did not see any High-Visibility jackets being worn while starting this machine lols) But the Sixty did just jump into life so I guess you know what your doing and look after this awesome machine. Thanks for the video dude ;)

It definitely takes a bit of doing to get her going in the morning, mostly it is just double checking the positions of controls.

Nice machine, there was one of these at this years great dorset steam fair(uk), it said on the information board that i would burn 6 gallons of petrol (gas) per hour. it had been converted to propane, you have a super museum thanks for all the videos

That really looks dangerous. I wonder how many have been hit in the head or lost an arm from that metal rod from an attention loss during starting.
The holes are designed in that way that the rod flips out

you could see the reliefs in the flywheel, the bar will only transmit torque in one direction, so as soon as it tries to start it kicks the tip of the bar out of the flywheel. not quite as dangerous as it looks.
