The whole pause in between trick sets and throwing hands up encouraging applause has been around for a long time. A solidified yo-yo competition mannerism.
I remember when I first started modern yoyoing 15 months ago, I thought this freestyle was extremely boring because it didn't have the flashy tricks and JD was just standing in one place. But now that I've learned the history and a lot of tirkcs since and this has become one of my favorite freestyles due to its complexity and tech. Awesomeness.

well that trick should get scored way higher than a regular arm grind people usually do in contests. I remember talking to Johnnie at Worlds and I asked him how long it took him to get that trick down and he told me around 3 months. So yeah that's a trick that was worked on pretty hard and should get alot of points :)plus its just pretty darn awesome

@nyjaj23 Legacy is great too, these days. I have both the Hitman and Legacy and highly recommend them both. Legacy is about half the price though, for what it's worth...

Yep. He's retired from competition, but he's still part of the team. He designs the webpage and whatnot, and he also judges.

Yes, they did have Koncaves in 2003. He used one in his Worlds winning yoyo and his Nationals winning yoyo.
