  • Watch Smart Alecks (1942) Full Movie on The Film Detective. Those roughneck rascals are running wild again! The East Side Kids tangle with former boxing star Maxie Rosenbloom in this comedy drama about Danny (Bobby Jordan) winning a 200 dollar reward for helping to nab a wanted criminal. The boys get upset when he doesn’t share the money, but the gang can’t stay mad at each other for long. Leo Gorcey, Huntz Hall, and Ernest “Sunshine Sammy” Morrison star, and of course, Rosenbloom appears as Butch Brocalli. What a finish!
    Director: Wallace Fox
    Writers: Harvey Gates, Harvey Gates
Starring: Leo Gorcey, Bobby Jordan, Huntz Hall, Gabriel Dell, Stanley Clements

I read that Huntz Hall who played Satch, stayed with the East Side Kids for so many years that in his last movie with them, he was 39 years old! He started as a teenager. That's a long time! But he was great, especially as Satch!

This is such classic cinema. When I saw THE KIDS on TV I didn't think that much of it, sort of low rated Three Stooges wannabees. Not so. Listen to the dialect and how well they all played their parts. I'm hooked on watching all these movies now.

So many great movies from the 30s onwards Ave been mostly forgotten by many, never known by many more.
I also like the 27 BLONDIE movies & Shirley Temple movies from the same era.
Quality stories, scripts, directing, camera operation & most of all,
    excellent acting.

      I did not type "Ave".
Google prediction changed it from "have".

I loved these movies as a kid, especially when they switched to comedy as the Bowery Boys. They’ve all left their mortal live and stepped into eternity now - I hope they had Jesus as their savior and are in heaven together.

I remember Glimpy as Satch. I always watched the Bowery Boys when I was a kid. Definitely remember his name as Satch. They were much older kids than me and my siblings. Even now, they seem older. Of course, they’re probably all dead now, those dead end kids.

He will always be Dippy (Dead End Moniker) to me. Bowery Boys was a more appropriate name for that goofy franchise. East-Side Kids was a bit of a stretch for actors well into their 20s, however Beverly Hills 90210 were High School kids played by actors well into their 20s as well. Especially 27-year-old Luke Perry.

According to the date under the title, this movie was finished in MCMXLV (1945), not 1942 (MCMXLII).
It is quite clear the last letter of the Roman Numerals is a "V".

As a kid I didn't and I'm very glad noticed the racism and stereotypes but not only blacks but Jewish people Italians etc still. But I liked I them growing up. A light-hearted look at gang culture
