- CK3 Formable Nations are something we all pursue in Crusader Kings 3. Today, we contend with CK3 HRE and CK3 France in order to form the KINGDOM OF BURGUNDY! CK3 Burgundy is a formable kingdom that can only be formed with "Unite the Burgundies". For this decision, you need to completely control the burgundy region and have high enough prestige. But that's not all, we also go after the BYZANTINE EMPIRE and claim the THRONE OF ROME!

for your next ck3 challenge you should play as count of vermandois in 1066 who is the last karling and restore Carolingian borders, its probably one of the hardest challenges in the game tbh.

As someone nearing 1,000 hours in CK3, the one thing I've REALLY wanted updated IS the peace deals!! More complicated piece deals like the ones in EU4 would make CK3 utterly amazing!
Honestly, EU4's peace system is near perfect. The only things I would really add in are dismantling of forts & the taking of navies

I just think war in ck3 could use a redesign in general. There simply aren’t enough cassus belli and peace shouldn’t only be obtained by one side enforcing 100% of their war goals or white peace only. You should be able to use war score to make certain demands of the target like in Victoria 3, but also have the target’s willingness be based off of their personality so a cowardly ruler will be more likely to give you more and a brave or bold ruler will be less likely to give you things unless they’re totally defeated. It should also be possible for the ai to surrender in war because it makes no sense why a cowardly count with 300 levies would stand against an emperor with 30,000 soldiers unless they have some personal reason to like religion or a grudge against that character. I also think there should be a vanilla tributary system and different types of tributaries and suzerains to have.

The unification of Burgundy was accomplished by King bozo the first who set out on a journey to avenge the death of his childhood crush Duchess Genevieve. King Bozo rallied his me and took the duchy of Provence in the name of his fallen love. He then proceeds to name his children Geneva and befriend/bribe the pope into giving him a series of claims on various counts and dukes until he finally united all of Burgundy. He popularized both the names of Geneva and Genevieve for both males and females for ages to come. Then because he was bored he decides to invade the Byzantine Emipire becoming the emperor. I wonder how many people in actually history have done similar things?

In the 1066 start date, there exists the county of Aargau (located in Switzerland) with a Habsburg ruler. You should try forming the Archduchy of Austria as them, and perhaps even becoming the Holy Roman Emperor.
Done that before, ended up forming my own Austrian empire after about 2 centuries
Changing the peace deal system would really help the AI too. I almost always see the AI sending entire kingdoms to war for random single counties.

If you're a fan of bannerlord as well (assuming from the barter system comment) there's a mod which combines ck3 and bannerlord. you fight the battles in bannerlord and play the map in ck3. it spawns in your men at arms and knights, though it is a little barebones atm it's really good fun if you like both games.
What about playing as Angria? you should make a really angry religion and take all the angriest perks and just be the most irate nation ever! always pick the most angry options! lol

My current playthrough is trying to reclaim Brittania for the Bretons. Started as one of the Breton counts in 867 and it's been a fun time claiming the kingdom, crossing into cornwall, uniting Wales and Ireland, using marriage to inherit Wessex, battling the vikings out of the danelaw, and last up is claiming Alba to unite the Isles. Definitely recommend that one
Ive just kinda accidentally done this play through as well , I started as the count of argyll, as a custom character, in Scotland and then took the duchy of ulster as all my neighbours in scotland were stronger than me, After taking ulster and playing tall for a while I was stronger than most the rulers in scotland so quite easily took the duchies of strathclyde and lothian then claimed the kingdom of scotland, the previous king had took most of ireland randomly so all I had to do was take England and after like a century of just developing my core lands, restructuring my realm and all my vassals, I took England, formed britannia and even claimed the kingdom of France, Got kind of bored of the save now so gonna start another in italy i think

The treaty of westphalia was 1648 after the 30 years war (one of the most brutal wars in European history) and didn't quite institute the nation state. Instead it was a watershed moment in the movement towards the nation state enabling rulers to exert sovereign control over their own designated territory. However the formation of the nation state wouldn't truly become an idea until after the napoleonic reforms of Italy and Germany :))

the whole section around 18:00 reminds me of the discontinued "sue for peace" mod that added the eu4 peace deal system into ck3, one proud bavarian covered it a while back and it was an amazing mod which I wish wasn't discontinued
I feel compelled to correct one of the points you made while discussing the limitations of the peace system (though I think it enhances, rather than detracts from the larger point you were making, so I hope you won't mind): the Treaty of Westphalia created the modern state, not the nation-state (and while the two terms get used interchangeably quite often today, the former is a much broader category than the latter).

After looking through the other suggestions on what to play in CK3 next, I think I have the best proposal.
You should try to get the "Basque In My Glory" achievement. It's filled with RP moments and is a bit of a challenge aswell.
Plus, you get to play around with the Iberian Struggle aswell.

If youre a vassal, you can always change your contract from day one in order to secure a council position
its pretty good since it gets you a lot of buffs (including more lifestyle experience). If you dont need any, at least get the steward one, it grants you +1 gold + cheaper and faster stuff the build
This is the best strategy for any christian vassal (non-feudal rulers dont have this option), and is one of the reasons why, in many times, swearing fealty is broken
13:25 Getting stewardship focus and rushing meritocracy would let you conquer the whole duchy in a single war, also transforming your former liege in a vassal

Having the buffs of being an emperor is incredible, you could always simply destroy the title if you want (it would also make easier to conquer)

Their geography sucks, being stucked in the middle of Italy, France, Germany and England makes it too vulnerable.
Switzerland have the same problem but it was much smaller the burgundy (less rewarding conquering) and its just a bunch of mountains, you'd suffer many casualties trying to conquer a land thats not too valuable, both militaristically and economically.
It would have changed many things though, without the spanish inheriting the lowlands and spending a giant amount of gold + ships tryng to stop the revolt (most of the portuguese - a spanish PU by the time - navy was destroyed in that war. A time when Portugal and Spain had the two greatest navies), they'd probably be much more relevant nowadays (maybe even more than France/England)

I challenge you to play as Chieftan of Jersika in 867 and create the Kingdom of Livonia (Proclaim Terra Mariana decision).
This is one of the most obscure and more 'hidden' decisions in the game that gives the Latgalian culture access to longboats which matches the historically accurate accounts of raiders who came from the shores of Curonia and raided around the Baltic Sea.

I’ll never understand why you didn’t pick impatient, it gives prestige. Shy is bad all around. I hate getting elected HRE Emperor. It happens every time I have a good game in the HRE. I just give in to the first demands I get. Just re-read my comment, I didn’t mean for it to sound as rude as it does.
I definitely prefer when you hand out your holdings to your children. It's not optimal play, but it's a) more chaotic and fun and b) more historical.
Also re: your discussion of the peace deals around 17:15, I absolutely agree. They've already said they won't budge on how peace deals work in the game because it's balanced around them, but it's the most jarring breach of historicity in the entire game. It's especially frustrating because we know a barter system with varied peace terms is possible and in fact quite workable in the engine, because they've got the rudiments of it in Victoria 3 (hopefully with more work to come). But no, for some reason war in crusader kings is only for incredibly rigidly-defined goals as if they're obliged to obey some kind of international law.

AI for peace deals really does need revised to give greater options, especially if you've managed to capture the opposing leader. There do also need to be other ways of gaining/exchanging territory - either by outright buying them, or as marriage dowries - a very common medieval practise.
I hate getting elected HR Emperor, it's a total nightmare unless it's something you're actively aiming for. I either try and get deposed at the first possible opportunity, or attempt to avoid it altogether by having female heirs whenever possible.

I found out that you never upgrade your feudal policies thing, that crown with number 1 to 4. Whenever you could, upgrade it, your vassals will gave you more golds and levies

I started ck3 and after a really success campaign to form the Kingdom of Aquitaine...I died and then learned that I couldn't swap dynasties even if they are my grandchildren. Thought I could get a capet heir to claim the throne of france.
