That top comment about playing it in different tabs also let's us see what it would be like with 6 or maybe even 8 of these things running simultaneously would sound like. Unreal soundscape.
I'm running a Post-Apocalyptic D&D campaign set in a giant ark-style underground bunker that has fallen into disrepair. This music has INSPIRED ME, haunting, meditative, and perfect to set the mood for my friends playing! Thank you so much, Absolutely amazing!
This was just what i was looking for - thanks!!! No talking, long (45 mins), smooth and a little creepy at times. This was the theme to my software programming today.
This is truly amazing! Even though it is made by machines, I find it very natural. It's like wind chimes but the "rules" were set by a human. This is ambient, literally.
My favorite thing about this video is the fact that even though it's essentially 45 minutes of a few machines just being themselves, it never gets boring. I love generative patches and I love what you've done here.
I find self-generating patches really good background music, I love them. It only works for me if the notes are quantised to a scale though, I can't stand S&H sent straight to the V/Oct control.
I concur about scale quantization: atonal music has never really been my thing. I have a lot more control over that because my weapon of choice (or necessity, I suppose) right now is PureData. Someday I'll go analog, though!
I can't say I dislike atonal music when it's done in the context of drones or effects (essentially when notes are thrown out of the window altogether) - it's only when people use the 12-tone octave without choosing a scale that it grates on my ears! How come PD is a necessity for you? I've never seen any reason to use it, although possibly because I don't know much about it.
A financial necessity, so to speak. Analog modular synthesis is rather low on the budget priority list as of now, even for a seasoned DIYer like myself; PD is just the way I scratch the itch for now.
Loving this. It's not like most of the ambient tracks I come across that are just random sounds slowed down 5,000,000%, which you can sometimes pull off but most of the time it sucks lol. This is has a lot movement with great textures. Put that Mother 32 and reverb to work!
great use of the mothers to create a beautiful dark ambient piece. i've just seen the future: sonner or later, you'll be getting more modules and another euro rack.
Just found your music - mainly because I'm eyeing up the DFAM and Mother32 as a purchase and have been looking at what other people have been up to with them - I adore your stuff. Following on BC. Keep it up!
Been listening the last few nights to much of your work. For modular this is the vibe I love. It's soooo good. Considering the utilitarian rig, this is really impressive. I'm flirting with a similar setup and you've inspired me to not shy away from Mother. ✌
Suspense Thiller set in the fall time of the year in a small town were they show you the real murderers among suspects on screen but visually distract you away from them till the end Film MUSIC.
Oh, man... I dived into the modular world because of you. Ițve started with a mother32 back in 2018 after watching what your videos and the things it does. Now, Ițve added a full rack to complement it... Befaco Rampage and ornaments&Crime are my favs in that respect. Kudos!
@@AlastairWilsonMusic Yes mate. Too many just buy the stuff and don't get any use outta them. As for me..., check my channel and judge for yourself how I master it. I consider myself your pupil in that respect and as any pupil I hope one day to surprise the master with the acquired craft.
It doesn't matter if content is new or not. TH-cam wants you to want only new stuff since this is a propaganda site now. If media manipulates minds into wanting new stuff more, they can cover up bad news easily.
I've just now realised what this piece of music reminds me of, not just the music, but the atmosphere and colour you used on the shot too. Are you a H.P.Lovecraft fan by any chance? - 'Through the desolate summits swept raging intermittent gusts of the terrible antarctic wind; whose cadences sometimes held vague suggestions of a wild and half-sentient musical piping, with notes extending over a wide range, and which for some subconscious mnemonic reason seemed to me disquieting and even dimly terrible.' from H.P.Lovecraft's 'At The Mountains Of Madness'. It's my favourite story by him, and this is how I always imagine the strange, eerie musical piping they often refer to!
As it happens, I'm not a fan of Lovecraft enough that I've properly read any of his stories other The Call of Cthulhu, but I know vaguely of many of them through their inspiration on other peoples' work. However, I am (and particularly was when I was younger, but Lovecraft is a bit heavy for a 13 year old) a big fan of supernatural tales, particularly in a horror context; I love horror games and films, especially when the supernatural is involved. I actually named 004//The Seething Depths from the lighting and mass of cables, which reminded me of the Kraken. Your comment is a good kick up the backside for me to read more Lovecraftian horror!
Just got my Mother 32, and your video has me feeling very happy about my purchase. I plan to do some similar music, but using the M32 and Arturia MiniBrute 2s. And some Strymon BigSky magic for good measure.
Thanks for sharing your creation. It is inspiration for me to create new sounds, i have the same set up also with Eventide space. Best regards from the Netherlands🇳🇱🎹🎧
Feel free to sample it! However, if you're putting the tracks online, please link this youtube video and my social media pages (youtube channel, facebook page, bandcamp page) in the upload descriptions. Also please do not monetise the videos/tracks you upload, as if you do then I will need a small percentage of the profits for using this track. On a less boring note, I'm glad you like the track :)
Hi Alastair I was just checking out sound demos of different Moog Synths. I'm very impressed with what you have done here. This is super cool and could be background music to a Triple A Movie. You need to market your work and license it. On another note do you have any desire to do synth tutorials on how you come up with these ideas?
Thank you! It's very kind of you to say so. I won't be licensing my music (at least for a while....) because putting these patches on youtube is more of a hobby, which has the benefit of forcing me to think of new ideas and try out different patches to create different soundscapes. My work (in my opinion at least) is not yet good enough to ask people to pay for it, or even donate - I don't have any plans to monetise my videos or set up a Patreon unless the channel really takes off. As far as tutorials; I'm considering doing a 'patch from scratch' video where I record myself making one of these patches from scratch (imaginative name I know). The only problem is that I often take minimum an hour to do so, as I often set up a patch, don't like it, break it down and try another, listen to it in the background, tweak some settings, try re-patching some modulation in a different way.... no-one wants to watch that! But maybe I will do something along those lines in the future. What do you think?
Want to see how well a single Mother 32 can recreate this patch, without being helped by Ableton? Here's 006//R.E.M.: th-cam.com/video/y8SN9WxiLXw/w-d-xo.html
very nice, haunting and beautiful how did you decide on the Eventide Space over the Strymon Big Sky? I'm on the fence about these also the Ventris dual reverb with shimmer seems cool too so many choices but money for one of them
I seriously love the sound of the Ventris, and the Big Sky is great for 'clean' ambience (a bit generic nowadays in my opinion), but I heard a piano demo using the blackhole algorithm from the Space and I was sold. They all have very different characteristics, so I recommend trying them all out in a shop if you can. The Space is great for dark ambient stuff but I've used it in non-ambient non-modular tracks too and enjoyed it - if you don't do much dark ambient stuff then the Ventris might be more up your street.
Playing this on several tabs together (from random time stamps) takes you to another dimension.
yup
great
Wow!
Modern technology...
Ha ha, yeah. Saves buying 8 Mothers ... though a very long echo would do it.
I have this playing in the background of my cigar lounge; it goes perfectly with a fine cigar and cocktail. Thank you, Mr Wilson.
Love your job. Many Thanxx for that! Dreaming! ;)

Glad to hear it, I'm a fan of D&D but somewhat I never thought about using my music in the background, going to have to try that now!
This was just what i was looking for - thanks!!! No talking, long (45 mins), smooth and a little creepy at times. This was the theme to my software programming today.
This is good for coding: th-cam.com/video/_VA2PBLiqMg/w-d-xo.html
Man this video is an artwork, i just love to look at it aswell
Great stuff. Been using it to shake down my new mobile DAW cart. Nice to have something nice to listen to while working.
My child (five months old!) seems to enjoy hearing this. Really.
When they end up being a synth nerd you can blame me :)
This is truly amazing! Even though it is made by machines, I find it very natural. It's like wind chimes but the "rules" were set by a human. This is ambient, literally.
Really creative use of this instrument
Stunning depth & beauty in the lovely darkness. 😍 Loving this! 😍 Happy to have discovered this channel! 😍

Just found this/you. Exceptional - very understated, minimalist, inviting and haunting....
Its beautiful, mysterious and haunting at the same time.
the lighting gives it a dark feel
Loving this. It's not like most of the ambient tracks I come across that are just random sounds slowed down 5,000,000%, which you can sometimes pull off but most of the time it sucks lol. This is has a lot movement with great textures. Put that Mother 32 and reverb to work!
I upvoted just because of the picture before I heard the music. So gorgeous, the music too.
I'm glad you like the visuals - I spent longer trying to set up the lighting right than I did making the patch!
I look forward to more. I need to start doing some live synth videos too.
In Eventide Space no one can hear you scream
Actually they can hear you scream forever.
This might be one of the best YT comments I've ever read
Brilliant
... but everyone can hear you chill.
What?
great use of the mothers to create a beautiful dark ambient piece.
i've just seen the future: sonner or later, you'll be getting more modules and another euro rack.
You read my mind - I'm currently deciding which case to go for!
Really love the sound and the slowly evolving melodies. Also, fantastic reverb...
Gorgeous analog sound! Nothing sounds like a real Moog; wonderful patch!
Cool piece. I know it's been up here a while but I'm just listening now.
Mother is such a wonderful ambient machine :)
Just found your music - mainly because I'm eyeing up the DFAM and Mother32 as a purchase and have been looking at what other people have been up to with them - I adore your stuff. Following on BC. Keep it up!
Thank you! I've done a few videos with the DFAM, so you should check those out :)
so calm, so haunting... I love it
Incredibly beautiful.
Been listening the last few nights to much of your work. For modular this is the vibe I love. It's soooo good. Considering the utilitarian rig, this is really impressive. I'm flirting with a similar setup and you've inspired me to not shy away from Mother. ✌
This is very good dreamy music that i like... Alastair Wilson :)
Fantastic!!!!! I am speechless... beautiful
Hoo ! beautiful, Atmospheric ! cosmic ! (and tanks you for patch to modulargrid,
(I will try to reproduce on the behringer crave ...)
Little late to comment. Ambient eurorack just doesn’t get any better!
Haunting and beautiful.

Film MUSIC.
Sounds wonderful. Looks wonderful.
Very nice. Thanks for doing this and sharing your knowledge.
powerful sounds, great music
Very nice. A perfect ambient track to listen to while working. Well done.
Fantastic! thanks for sharing

Well I just listened to one stream at once
Very enjoyable
Just fit right while I was dozing away waiting till I had to serve dinner
Thank you again
Great background music for Starfield
Très belle installation. Bravo
Beautiful work 👏 👌
This is so cool.
Eventide Space sounds so good
I know I’m a year late
but this is a m a z I n g

Really nice.
Just found this channel, it is awesome! love the way the patches are available on modular grid. Having fun trying to recreate them :)
If you have any questions, let me know!
Superb! A touch of genius
And if you dare to have a third Mother how would you connect them to follow this melodic logic? I’d love to see that patch published!!
If I had a 3rd M32 I would have made a video about it! It would be definitely stereo, more chordal, etc etc...
This is just majestic. Well done.
This is just what I needed ...love it.......clicked like because it is in the style of music I like
I was only 12 minutes in but had to add my bit that I loved it
I'm glad you like it!
Beautiful drone man!!
Pretty nice! Makes me gonna buy the eventide
Good decision, enjoy getting lost in cavernous 60s reverbs!
Wonderful work, I'm just starting exploring the path of generative music. Modular is the best time machine.
Generative music and changing cables around is in particular an easy way to pass an evening without reasoning
The knobs are here for a reason!
hey this is great. i wrote an email to this.
Very nice! some tunes really give me chills
wow! lovely evolving textures. I could listen for hours
this is so good
Nice one!
Soothing and relaxing 😀🎹🎹😀
lovely!
Intoxicating
Masterclass Hans Zimmer, take it. You have the skill and the ear, all you need to do is learn to story tell with it.
I almost pulled the trigger on that, maybe I should revisit the idea.
Soft and nice and very drone ish :) Just the way I like it! Thanks for sharing this!
beatiful
Just got my Mother 32, and your video has me feeling very happy about my purchase. I plan to do some similar music, but using the M32 and Arturia MiniBrute 2s. And some Strymon BigSky magic for good measure.
You'll get some great sounds out of that combo, have fun with it! I almost bought a Big Sky instead of a Space... maybe I will get one as well....
Excellent work. These pieces work well just as they are.
Great work.
Yes.
Wonderful.
I haven't been this bored by listening to music all year.
My goodness what a patch this is
I dig it-very inspiring!
Really powerfull, keep going forever!
Sounds wonderful!
Divine
nice quiet sound
Very deep!
fell asleep listening to this tonight.
Thanks for this.. Subscribed.
great work! getting myself Eventide space soon, can't wait:)
Try one out in a shop before you buy, the sound isn't for everyone, but it does sound incredible!
Im either going to engineer one of these machines, or create one with a beat modulator. Stay tuned
Report back with how it goes!
quite a treat
Thanks for sharing your creation. It is inspiration for me to create new sounds, i have the same set up also with Eventide space.
Best regards from the Netherlands🇳🇱🎹🎧
Hey Peter! Ik denk eraan om dezelfde setup op te gaan bouwen maar ben vrij nieuw met synths, kun je me dit aanraden en tips zijn welkom!

wow, blade runner! beautiful!
This is going to be my new coding track :-)O
