A grand video mate and I like the fact you left the mistakes in to prove that it doesn't always go to plan. I usually set mine up on a flattish rock to save it scorching the ground if I'm on grass or heath land. A pine cone kept in your pocket lights a treat with a match and away you go. I also use "bog fir" and keep a wee bag of it in my kit. It contains natural oils and pitch so it lights very easy. Anyone over here in Ireland would be able to get it handy I'm sure and you only need a wee bit so it goes a long way. It's a bit like Maya wood except it's free! Good luck
As a user of the Kettles myself, mistakes will be made using it the first few times, but like all things you learn and do a better job next time, part of the fun of using them and other stoves is finding what works best for you, the kettle does a great job boiling water, not as slick using the new hobo stove attachment, but it does work, thanks for taking the time to do a video, some parts were a little long, but then again I am watching, not doing a video, everyone can learn from others good or bad, no one got hurt ,you made breakfast and had fun, that's what it's all about, again thanks for the video.
I have the base camp kettle. I used it for the first time. I lit it with a lighter & fatwo0d of a pine tree & used about 6 pine cones & boiled 2 times 1 after the other. 1.6 litre per boil now that is very g0od going thanks for the video.
Therefore they sell it with a green bung inbetween. It has a safety valve (a whistle). "Breakfast is cooking" Yeah! And the table, too. Depends on the version, but with mine came a metal cross for the outlet of the chimney or to be put under the fire pot.
Nice video. I use a different type of lighter for using my kelly kettle. I bought one of those lighters with the extended end where the flame comes out (The type used for igniting household Gas Cooker rings) instead of a basic cigarette lighter. It meant that I could push the end of the lighter into the middle of the twigs for lighting and I didn't get burnt fingers/thumb with any wind blowing around the flame. It drops down neatly in the centre of the kelly kettle, so is always ready to go. I would highly recommend getting one, even as a back up.
Some stoppers have whistles in them, meant to be left in until a boil is reached. There is an arrow to point down, allowing the steam to vent. My Ultimate Scout Kit has the green whistle.
Hi, get some cotton wool. Roll into small balls.. rub petroleum jelly into the cotton balls...put in a tin.. use one ball with lighter or flint en steel to light twigs etc. Atb.
I took a mini titanium one on my motorbike trip around Australia 🇦🇺 I would gather my kindling in the late arvo for a dawn start up next day for my coffee. Dry leaves n tiny twigs worked well. It was a winner everyday.
Well I'm definitely in the market for a Kelly kettle now. been watching videos all weekend which has been wet and dreary. If you had a favourite kettle size which one would you recommend? I came into this thinking the trekker but now I'm thinking the scout looks better.
I hit that subscribe button and now watching your video's. Sorry in advance for my poor spelling im a Dutch girl. Thank You for the verry good content and that you show it all and don't eddit the litle falts out :D This is real! Greetings from Holland,, Kitty.
I love the kelly kettle Paul. Fantastic, versatile piece of equipment. I could smell that bacon here in Hereford lol. Thank you for sharing. Happy wandering. Paul :)
Mate, by far the most helpful (For me personally) video regarding the Kelly kettle I've found. People saying you're wasting fuel with your lighter are just being picky, I think the point is, you aren't making a video about fire starting in a life or death situation, this is simply a camp set up with access to useful materials and that is where I feel the Kelly kettle is most useful. Definitely gained my subscription haha all the best
A little confused...you say 'no starting material', yet you use a little propane lighter??? What's the difference between using a propane lighter/twigs and a match/striker rod/matches and a propane lighter? Otherwise, I enjoyed the video and also know I keep several propane lighters (BIC's), water and windproof matches, striker rods, etc. in my emergency kit for fire! As they say, one is none, two or more is essential! Safe and enjoyable camping to you always!
What i mean by no fuel is the addition of an accelerant like cotton wool, vaseline, meths, petrol ect. Twigs will light easily in the kelly kettle because of the chimney drawing in oxygen and feeding the fire.
I don't see how you call that lighting easily. You are wasting gobs of fuel to light thick tinder when you could bring or find tinder that is much more suited to the job. The amount of fire you are using with that lighter is WAY more than one match worth and a good fire set up will start with LESS than one matches worth of heat. Good tinder is a must and would really make your experience more enjoyable.
Over a minute of sustained lighter application.... Not good. Kelly kettle probably makes it a much better experience than not, but not good, serious need of proper tinder here.
Agree. Check lighters work before going out - especially if you have only one! Better to take cotton wool balls, petroleum jelly and a firesteel to be sure of fire-making capability, or better still compress cotton wool balls and seal them with candle wax as there's no chance they'll get wet even after a dunk in a river or the heaviest rain. Blowing into the KK firebowl from above is a schoolboy error because a few unpleasant things are more likely - first you'll probably be taking several breaths to get the flame re-lit so you'll stand a good chance of inhaling smoke and hot air coming from the firebowl which can seriously damage lungs, deprive your body of oxygen, and poison you. If you watch Ray Mears blowing into a tinder bundle he will move it away from his mouth to inhale so he doesn't get a lungful of smoke - you can't move the KK firebowl so move your head! Secondly, when you blow down into a firebowl you'll blow hot ash and cinders out and the direction that'll go is up towards your face and eyes which also isn't healthy. Again, move your head and blow into the firebowl through the hole in the side. Finally, KK firebowls get very hot so put something fire and heat-resistant under the firebowl and you wont scorch or set fire to your table. You have 250+ subscribers and 47,000+ viewers and that's a lot of people - if you don't want them harmed then don't show them the most dangerous way to do things but the safest way instead. Bushcraft is about knowledge, right?
The bung being left in was a bit dangerous but you knew not to do it and we all make mistakes.. Burning the table also is a bit of a bad decision putting it where you did.. But it is what it is.. The man knows for next time.. Thanks for sharing your experience 👊🏼👍🏼
Yes that is what i do normally, I was showing you can start it if you don't have any cotton wool or Vaseline. It starts quite easily with little twigs.
This is a good video - I hate it when people just light a perfect fire first time !! what fuel are they using !! no matter how dry my twigs/cones are, it's still difficult to get a good fire started, and when I do, the billowing smoke is a nuisance to everyone around - and the smell on clothes is awful - so good to see not everyone is perfect !!
Are you in the U.K.? The ivy is covering those trees. I have heard how bad it is there but to see it on another site is amazing, were you close to a highway?
i would not recommend it. Once the kettle has boiled it needs to be removed. You cant run it empty either. I think the smoke would kill you as well ;-)
your intro is mad 😯😯 but in a good way😂😂 I try use the pictures from the footage that way different intro everytime. and it gives a small look into what is coming

Robert Perkins Thanks for watching Robert.

"Breakfast is cooking"
Yeah! And the table, too.
Depends on the version, but with mine came a metal cross for the outlet of the chimney or to be put under the fire pot.
Those metal cross things are poorly designed to use as a stand though. They make it really unstable, they need to be much wider IMO.
Nice video. I use a different type of lighter for using my kelly kettle. Thanks for watching and commenting. I have a few of them as well, i keep one in each of my bags now :)
Also the bung side should be opposite from the air holes on the base. Just in case you're blowing the fire and it boils over :/
Some stoppers have whistles in them, meant to be left in until a boil is reached. There is an arrow to point down, allowing the steam to vent. My Ultimate Scout Kit has the green whistle.

J Bradshaw Thanks for watching. I was demonstrating how to light it without any prepped fuel just to show that you can in a pinch.
Good video. Thanks for posting. my Kellykettle arrived an hour ago. Can't wait to use it.
Thanks, you will love it!
I took a mini titanium one on my motorbike trip around Australia 🇦🇺
I would gather my kindling in the late arvo for a dawn start up next day for my coffee. Dry leaves n tiny twigs worked well. It was a winner everyday.
Nice one!
Man, you're killing me.
My diet is going to hell watching huge portion of lovely magical bacon cooking.
I'm off to the shop.
Cheers
😂
Throughly enjoyable. Had a demo of a 25 year old Kelly Kettle today. Absolutely first class, a great gadget to have :-)
They are fantastic aren't they :)
Wow, love going back and watching some of the old videos, Great Stuff, I had no idea the Kelly kettle has the hole in the middle.
The laurel and hardy tune for this one......
The K Kettle is a good piece of kit. Thanks for sharing!
He is acting with that stubborn gas torch like Peter Griffin with the frog...
I really like the nature audio in the background
It's very peaceful in the woodland around me ;)
Now that's what I call a breakfast. In such a cool place. Good tips on the kettle. 👍
Nice camping and great cooking in the wilderness. :)) Thank you! Big thumbs up.
Thanks and thank you for watching :)
You're welcome :))
This has to be the best hiking cook stove. Boil your water and cook at the same time saves time. Irish are some smart cookies.
Yep its a winner for sure. Contains the fire so it can be used in a no open fire zone!
It’s huge
I do like the whistle stopper on the Ghilley unit
the new kelly kettles have a whistle bung now too
Well I'm definitely in the market for a Kelly kettle now. been watching videos all weekend which has been wet and dreary. If you had a favourite kettle size which one would you recommend? I came into this thinking the trekker but now I'm thinking the scout looks better.
I did the same when i was looking. I went with the scout after a lot of research and im very happy with it.
I hit that subscribe button and now watching your video's. Sorry in advance for my poor spelling im a Dutch girl.

Greetings from Holland,, Kitty.
Thanks Kitty. You probably spell better than me. I hope you enjoy my videos ;)
I love that Kelly Kettle it’s so efficient. Too bulky for my bike-packing trips, but great all the same. Damn, that bacon looked good. Thank you.
Cant wait to go for camping here in Boston is getting a little warmer now!
Soak circular makeup wipes in melted parrafin wax. Wait to dry and baking paper. Rip in half and light, they're great.
Cool video thanks 🎸 what was the name of the paracord bracelet you wore in the video please
Thank you for the cooking 🍳 videos my friend 👍😊 keep them coming 🙏👌😊
Thanks, i will be doing more.
I love the kelly kettle Paul. Fantastic, versatile piece of equipment. I could smell that bacon here in Hereford lol. Thank you for sharing. Happy wandering. Paul :)
It was a tasty breakfast Paul ;-) Thanks for watching and i hope you have a great 2017!
Paul Bisseker Thank you Paul and the same to you. That bird song in your location...marvellous. You have a new subscriber :)
Thanks Paul I also subbed you ;-)

Thanks for the comment and sub.
another nice video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
Kelly Kettle is a wonderful invention. You only need to know how to prepare a kindling and how to use it.
good vid there mate,im impressed with the Kelly kettle, cheers
Paul, the part that holds the frying pan, is that extra to the kettle
The pot gripper is part of the Kelly Kettle kit & can also be bought separately on their website.
nice, you make it work sir
Is there any sort of attachment to be able to cook off the top of the kettle? Like a small pan for eggs or beans?
Yes there is, Its a pot holder that fits into the chimney.
A little confused...you say 'no starting material', yet you use a little propane lighter??? At least the lighter is camouflaged. Although, if it's dropped in the woods he'll never find it.
The bung being left in was a bit dangerous but you knew not to do it and we all make mistakes..
Burning the table also is a bit of a bad decision putting it where you did.. But it is what it is.. The man knows for next time..
Thanks for sharing your experience 👊🏼👍🏼
I wouldn't want to be in a survival situation with you! Your dangerous, you'd burn the whole place down. Look at what you did to the table.
I want to get one soon thank you for the video and info 🤗👍👍👍🇺🇸
Hilarious demonstration,I presume you burned the whole campsite down too.Top marks for not faking it.
cotton balls and Vaseline great fire start for the Kelly and then add wood then lite cotton balls,
Yes that is what i do normally, I was showing you can start it if you don't have any cotton wool or Vaseline. It starts quite easily with little twigs.
Anthony Camacho you can also use small pieces of bicycle inner tube which will light even when wet
Yep i carry those too ;-)
camping. stay at home and do it from your kitchen. timber held together with screws. join the scouts mte
I was in the scouts.... All they wanted to do was bum each other!!!
Paul Bisseker Bushcraft ha ha
kelly kettle are brilliant
Nice video mate. Super job the Kelly kettles. Atb.
I bet that had quite the smoked taste, looks good.
Bout time someone posted a pic of a proper bacon cook :-D
Low in fuel ? Ever tried a blow flute.. they work great an are colapsable
We live in the REAL world my friend ;)
love the video mate and ignore the armchair experts ! most of them have never camped outside their back gardens if that ;)
Nice vid, can't wait to get one of these. Nice bacon too. What happened to the little green bug? i hope you waited for him to go before ignition!
Never feed fuel into the vent hole in the firebox, that is why you smothered the fire !!!
My bag of twigs , drier lint and starting stuff is bigger than the Kelly
Muito legal seu equipamento sonho de consumo que pena que no Brasil não tem mais adorei
thanks for the video. Alexandr. Russia. Welcome to Russia.
Thanks for the comment and watching
Jesus, man, 50y. o. and still don't know how to start fire !!!
Keep 2 Bic,s on me
You have to suck air after you blow. Never forget what explorer Jacques Clouseau said "in with the good air, out with the bad"
Do you still use this? How do you like it in comparison to the trangia?
Cotton pad soaked in candle wax works really good also I could have cooked all of that just with 3 good size tree cones. Just saying
Or a bit rubbed into cotton wool works great too. You can seal it with wax to stop them from getting wet. Work brilliantly!
“No fuel” wots the twigs then
Are you in the U.K.? The ivy is covering those trees. I have heard how bad it is there but to see it on another site is amazing, were you close to a highway?
Yes i am in the UK and there is a motorway close by.
There is some speculation that carbon emissions are causing the accelerated growth of the ivy..interesting.. I first saw this on TAOutdoors. Cheers
Hate all these negative comments, stop being stuck up and get outside for yourself!
Thanks ;)
great video
Thanks
What a scream, funny video, looks like a stunt I would pull.
I like the stove.
It's a great piece of kit.
Yer table is charrin..?
Why didn’t you get a camouflage plate to go with the rest of your stuff?
just think extra smoky bacon.😁. good vid mate
Can you use the Kelly kettle to stay warm in a tent
i would not recommend it. Once the kettle has boiled it needs to be removed. You cant run it empty either. I think the smoke would kill you as well ;-)
DEFINITELY NOT, YOU WILL DIE, loads of teenagers die cos when it gets a little cold they drag the barbie in for heat, then suffocate
Good show thanks
Wouldn’t a little tinder be good for starting fire?
I reckon those jet lighters all have the same problem as the one you’re having. I have two same as that and both mine exhibit the same issues.
Great work on video mate
your intro is mad 😯😯
but in a good way😂😂
I try use the pictures from the footage that way different intro everytime. and it gives a small look into what is coming
Thats gona leave a mark. You burn more wood of the table then in the stove.
Good old Clipper to the rescue 😄
The original and best survival tool, don't know how I managed to skin up back in the 90's without the clipper
Very unimpressive but this is now 2022, so you might have got the hang of it by now.
Nice
Got to take a lunch break to start a fire
What bacon cuts do u use that looks like ham to me ? Got same fork an knive. U going to eat all that ?
hey awesome channel man I just subbed
Shouldn't keep lighter lit that long.
Dude turn your feeder hole into the wind- 💨💨💨
Fire box or kelly kettle????
Dont forget to factor in the cost of a new table with one of these.
😂 😂 😂
very good video my friend looks very delicous ti ;)
atb
steve
Top man
Ok but song for intro name please toonage
soundcloud.com/user-650739073/whistles-amphetamines
no fire starting material - just a small blowtorch
nice video
Bush box xl ftw
Can u cook on it
That is not the way you light a fire
They make a bellow for that
need smaller twigs to start with
cannot beat birdsong.
An that’s why I don’t like jelly kettle bush box for me
Our us bacon doesn’t look like that
haha take that cork out . Good frying pan. I've just made a hobo thing to go on our base.
The cork i keep forgetting :)
There is about 4 servings...
LOL i know BACON!!! Mmmmmm
