My coach came up with what he called Steps To Success (STS) in 1998 and basically it was a way for little kids to learn underwater work. It was 6 fly kicks off the wall/ pullout for br and then 2 strokes no breathing for fly, 3 strokes no breathing for fr and 4 strokes fast for bk and br. It was drilled into us as little kids so that it would become habit when we were older. Lately with us older kids, our coach has gotten us to put little lane ropes across the lane at the 12.5m mark and do underwater fly kick past the lane with a clean breakout, mostly bk but occasionally other strokes.

Yeah I love skips. I’ve never seen the running five, but I’ll try that sometime

Love this video. Our high School boys just had their first meet yesterday, and our weakness is definitely underwater kicking. 1st year as Head Coach and have already put a lot of emphasis on a good streamline and dolphin kick, just need to work in other options to work on it that don't get stagnant for high school boys.

Cody this is awesome! You should do a video about dry land. Different things different swimmers should work on in the gym depending on if they do distance or sprints. Also talk about how we can jump like you, you can jump so on the runners!!! That’s incredible!

I can vouch for underwater work being a key to making you faster. Coming from a 1.5 year break. Most of the team are fitter than me, but I often beat them in stand ups due to my underwater work.

I haven't tried skips before, never heard of them before, but I love to swim I am so definitely have to try that sometime. So I have a question, is the idea that you start your underwater with big kicks and you make them smaller and more powerful as you go?

Butterfly kick on your back, on the surface of the water.. arms out above you in streamline or by your sides.. uff it does the business 👌

Hey man, just a suggestion. Most of your viewers are definitely amateurs, advanced swimmers. That's probably the only reason to watch your videos.
My suggestion is to show more of the actual swims, maybe underwater as well.
Just an opinion, great videos too :)

Actually, I can tell the fastest swimmers just by looking at their feet. The longer and flatter the foot the better kick and the faster the swimmer.
