  • The CrossUNDER is a more appropriate term for what is conventionally call the CrossOVER, BUT, what is the difference between them? Watch this video to find out.
    Why I use the term CrossUNDER vs OVER ➡️ • CrossOVER no more?? Bi...
    To reiterate.... It doesn't matter what word you use. What's important, is that you understand the movement and how it's performed, HOWEVER, crossUNDER is better description of the movement and thus, why I prefer to call it the crossUNDER.

    What matters is that you need to push with your inner leg to make it effective.

      Yup! The Crossunder is the most important part.

    Thank you for this video. I grew up learning how to skate in the early 90s and I would say during that time period the term "crossover" is more aligned because that's what was being taught especially when practicing skating around the circles. You would pick your leg up and over exaggerate the cross-over of the leg.
    Now, when I skate circles during warm-ups, I feel how I now perform more of a cross under motion and would agree with that terminology.
    I've been watching videos for hours trying to see the difference, and I don't. McDavid is just super super strong on his outside edges, and I feel that is what truly sets him apart. Who sharpens his skates deserves a raise.

    The difference is the edge being used. The crossover uses the inside edge and the cross under uses the outside edge.

      Bro said there's no difference though. Yee just calls it a cross under to emphasize the often underutilized under push that comes from the outside edge of the inside foot. By calling attention to this deficiency in most non-elite skaters' tool boxes, you can focus on improving it, and thus become an overall more effective skater.

    when trying to generate speed from a crossover or just a stride do you want to dig into the ice as hard as you can or be lighter on your edges and have more of a glide and less bite into the ice

    • @TheDownhillSkater
      @TheDownhillSkater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the question. Imo, you definitely don’t want to purposefully dig in hard into the ice, that will simply add unnecessary tension which will not only make you less efficient but actually slower. Nor, do you want to purposefully be light in the ice.
      Focus on staying relaxed and the technical components of the movement vs how hard/soft you should be digging it.
      However, if you find you are digging in too much you can consider getting a shallower hollow.
      Hope that helps!
