We made bed covers just like this a few years ago - couple of learnings that we had to modify at a later date. A ridgeline plastic pole across the top stops both the ends sagging in and the netting/poly sheeting from sagging in by just reeinforcing the structure - i found the poly sheeting a bit of a mare to fit, take off swap to netting and and refit the later in the year for winter/next year so if you come up with a good method please let us all know! The pivoting on the clips is excellent if you cover with poly sheeting as a mini hoop house and we just had a couple of wood bits to use as props during the heat of the day if needed depening on whats under them. If you still have issues in the future with those sly foxes getting in - if they figure out how to pop the pipes out of the clips for instance then you can just add a bit of chain that hooks onto a loop at the outside base of the bed.
Jessie, Someone mentioned hot water softening the pipe enough to get the fitting in. This may work, but a heat gun certainly will. It like an industrial blow dryer. You will need to test it to see what temperature softens it just enough, but won't melt the pipe. Good luck, you have a great idea!!
Hi Jessie and your Mum, great job with the new frame, and those foxes didn't get in, result 😊 poor you, your poor throat, hope you feel better soon. Lovely pear harvest & planting done too. Lovely plot update. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Thanks for the videos Jess, part of my Sunday morning routine is a coffee in bed with the hounds and TH-cam catch ups. Word of warning, I've found those plastic tube corners don't last long they get fragile. I switched to using the ball type and they are still going strong after 5 years. Hope your cold/covid goes quickly and your feeling better soon.
Well - I did a diy solving problem task - thanks to Jessie. !? Had toilet fixtures delivered as the seat came of. Slightly did not fit - so instead of sending them back (what a pain) - I got my little hacksaw out and made them fit. In our house now - we call most of our mending "Doing a Jessie" ! 🥰
I love your problem solving skills. I would've given up as soon as that pipe didn't fit, flung the kettle on and sulked into my tea! But you keep going til you've fixed it. Impressed with that structure for the bed, I especially love the hinge opening mechanism. And yes that was an outrageously beautiful pear! Did they taste as good as they looked?
Sorry you are so unwell. It's so tough to be so sick and having to push yourself to get things done. Take some time to rest and recover, and maybe a bit of elderberry cordial to sip.
Well done Jessie you've been very busy and your mum ❤ I'm pleased you sorted out your connectors for your pipes. Some good info for September sowing. 👍 Have a great week ❤
❤Love the whole bed covers! Garlic goes in the garden beds in October so I’m cleaning out beds/walkways to be ready for winter. Carrots and second round of zucchini in, but sowing beets & greens in containers by the kitchen door outside for consistent attention. 😊
Absolutely brilliant bed-cover thingy, and so handsome too. I really like it all black, maybe spend a few bucks (quid?) on a can of black spray paint for plastic and cover the grey? I suppose that would defeat the purpose of buying grey to keep the cost down… All my sympathy to you for fighting that fever coming on you at the end, Garden Warrior.
Spring has spring in nz. Really early heat with that delicious breeze that spring brings. So excited for what I can do in my garden! Jessie are you worried that the foxes might get into the hen coop? I love foxes but that woukd be my fear!
Goodness…aren’t tromboncino prolific…never grown them before😀😀😀your recommendation. Now making pink onion and tromboncino chutney😀😀😀. Many thanks for the info. Jinxy
I've just finished building a new cage for my brassicas with same pipe and fittings, I love mine, and it works really well. Some joints were not so tight, so I drilled some holes at the end of the pipes just before they disappeared into the corner pieces and used a tie wrap to secure. Hope you feel better soon 💚💚🌻🌻💚💚
Very well done to keep on battling through an exceptionally trying week! Loving your design for badger protection, but I have a slight concern about those struts going across. There's a risk that the tension from the hoops might pull the connections apart over time? Maybe consider glueing or screwing the connections so they won't pull off. Nice pear btw :D
Hi Jessie Absolutely LOVE your vlogs! So thank you for them :) I would just like to suggest one more pipe along the tops of the arches. This I think will both support the end arches so they don't bend inwards, but also make the whole structure more rigid - and add more cost and work of course... :D I so admire your positive mindset in the face of plot destruction! Get well soon. :)
Hi jessie great video you are a DIY genius on your plot i have visions about ideas but that's as far as it goes, well done and hope you feel better soon 🎉
Hi my allotment site has been hit by an unknown predator and we have had reports of foxes and badgers. Is there a way of telling the difference between the two? Thanks
Great update once again Jessie, well done on getting your new frames done seem a great idea , hopefully they will sort out those foxes , also what a result with your pears I've seen an awful lot worse on sale in supermarkets, finally hope your feeling much better very soon and say Hi to your mum, xx
Great video again Jessie. You always impress me with your ingenuity. Bless your heart for carrying on like a trooper with your voice too. Make sure you take some time to rest and take care of yourself. I was expecting it to turn into a subtitled episode at one point! Although, I accidently had captions on at the start and "Hello girlies" came up as "Hello Daddy" which made me chuckle 😂 Our sweetcorn has all been destroyed too ( I suspect squirrels) and first time growing it, so next year, they will be getting some form of protection. They looked great as well! There will be some very fat bellied happy squirrel chaps at least 😂 xxx
Hello Jessie, first of all, I want to commend you for continuing to have a positive attitude, especially after all the Monal devastation caused by wildlife. I am very sure you have had to be struggling with chucking in the towel and just packing it up for the year. It seems for me I have rabbits and squirrels here and the squirrels will pluck off a tomato when it’s green bring it up on my deck and it will take one bite and then leave it there for me to find on the deck rail, like unbelievable. I do know that overall my garden is not quite as good as last year and because of a series of mistakes and my miss steps not following my plan. I do appreciate everything that I am getting and tonight for supper everything that we are going to have, except for the lamb was grown in my garden, and I’m very excited about that. I do like the hinged netting that you created. I could offer one suggestion across the top. You have four black bent bows going across. At the top of each one in the center if you drill a little hole straight down and all four of them, then took another piece of the exact same piping and measured it from underneath the farthest left and the farthest right with that distance is cut it off, then hold that underneath the ribs and going through your hole put a second hole down into that second piece of pipe and if you get a short 2 inch bolt you could drop down one and the other there and that would keep all four of them they would not bend or apart either they would be held very very still, and it would also add a lot of stability but I think it’s a pretty easy thing to do. Just drill a couple holes, screwing a nut in a bolt and Bob’s your uncle. I hope your cold runs its course and gets on its way out. Y’all take care, Cya next thyme, Steven
Wow. I'm so thankful we don't have badgers in our area. Also I think our allotment being basically a flat open field probably means there's probably nowhere suitable for foxes to make dens. Hope you feel better soon. ♥️
Sending you as I much healing energy! Feel better soon! Also I so admire you and your mom and your high spirits thru so much dedication and determination!
I love your new bed frame!! Maybe you want to put a long pice of the pipe on top underneath the arches & netting. You could use zip tides (using two zip tides like a X on each one) to attach to the arches to strength them so they don’t cave in? Sorry I don’t even know how to convey my idea 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ One of those days!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🇺🇸 Looking awesome!! 🦋🦋🦋
Just finished watching second half . You take some time out now to rest and get strong again .Will try the Watermelon radish . You've done a great job of it all .Well done ! 🍷x
Just wondering if it is harder to plant and sow in your beds now that you only have access from one side? Having a cold at any time is a downer but if it’s cold and grey you can snuggle in bed, when it’s the last bit of good weather that’s really hard to take. Hope it’s all over by the time we see you next week.
Hopefully with being able to keep the foxes off the crops there will be less work to do with re-planting everything, at least. Those pears look lovely.
Jesse a way to illiminate the inside bottom struts across the bed might be to thread metal rods down the long sides after puttine the tubes together. It may be strong enough to hod the loops without the bowing . Cheers for the vids
Would heating up the ends of the pipe in hot water work to temporarily soften the plastic enough to put the connections in? I do this with my irrigation pipe if it is marginally too small, and when the pipe hardens up again, it gives a very tight fit. I though it might be an easier process than filling.
Mmm, garlic kale. I wish my acorn squashes didn’t die (all my summer squashes died). Sowed a Brazilian broccoli was recommended by a Florida grower should do well in my warm climate. Got to go my corgi is farting for some reason.😊
Hope tomorrow your better. What are you making with the little tree berries you picked. I didn’t know what you said, and what is it ? From United States, N. C.
Hi Jessie Brilliant job and when you were feeling so ill. Take care and rest. Now, Achocha? What on earth do I do with the ones our allotment neighbour has given us ? They are 2 inches long, very pale lime green, and covered in soft spikes. Weird little things. Are they. The same variety you grow? Cheers Jasmine
Look like you have got a great, simple design for your hoop covers. However, I see one problem… The central braces are going to foul large plants like brassicas that have spreading leaves. I have similar hoop beds, but I use 50 x 25mm battens around the bottom instead. This stopped the hoops from opening out and the hoops can still be lifted up by one person. You can still use your connectors to fix the hoops to the battens by screwing through them. Good luck and happy gardening.
How will you attach the plastic to the hoops for the small poly? I want to build one of those for this winter. I'll be eagle eyed as you set that up. Hope you feel better soon. Cx
Would the bars in the centre at the bottom maybe damage big leaved plants when lifting and putting back down - unless you only lift when harvesting 🌿🌿🌿 fab idea to have a hinge though 🌿🌿🌿 pears look great I have 2 apple trees and one pear tree - they're in large pots hopefully I'll have fruit next year 🌿
Instead of all that base pipework you could of simply screwed brackets on the inside of the wood and slotted the pipe in bending it over to the other side bracket. I use 25mm blue water pipe that way. Mind you, doing the cover your way keeps the netting on permanently i guess. I have to lift my netting up to get in. Do you think keeping chickens attracts the foxes so much to your plot?
Dear young lady please get well soon it looks like you are having a bad time of it…… I’m very interested to see if your idea with the neting works well. again please take care of yourself
is there a danger of giving blackflies a headstart if you grow fieldbeans... maybe not.i didnt get any on my broadbeans this year, maybe it was too wet and cold for them, they only appeared after the broadbeans had finished

She had to think out of the box.
To make the allotment Fort Knox,
Like Rodney she dares
And skips home with pears
Now that’s how to outfox a fox! 🤞
So glad the sun came out ☀️
Jessie you are a very skilled handy woman and so capable of building new structures so I am very impressed!
Jessie,

Hej Jessi go to bed and recover, its no good to be so sick and don't stress yourself. Love Lydia

I Love Jessie. Good to see there is still summer there. It has started snowing already here.
Hope you feel better soon Jessie
HEAT. is the answer.
I hope you are feeling better and thank you for bringing your little space to us.
Kudos to you for mustering on thru a cold!! 🤧 I'd be the one whining in the corner beside the mountain of tissues, lol!
bless you Jess, i hope you feel better soon!

I use a lighter to soften my pipe. 😂 you need first tunnels to give you bed covers 👍👍. Sorry you’re not well 🤧 hope you get better soon, Ali 🌥️🇨🇦

Hello. I have many plumber brothers and they have a tool for PVC that expands the hole…thought that might help your poor hands
Very well done to keep on battling through an exceptionally trying week!

boil water and put the end of the pipe into it, or get over flow pipe and glue the fittings on
Hope you feel better soon, Jess, well done for not climbing into the duvet instead of your happy video, thankyou 😊
Well done Jess that’s thinking on your feet fantastic idea. Lots more hard work for you and your mum.Your garden looks wonderful
Super good work Jessie you the best te moostiun te planting te thans te video Top week 🌺💐🌿🌞😅🍹👍🌱
Hope you get better very soon! No fun to be sick and try to work in the garden. Much love from Arkansas!
Thanks
You could cut the arch pieces in half to add another connector for a brace piece between the top of each arch. That would stop them pulling inwards.
Great update once again Jessie, well done on getting your new frames done seem a great idea , hopefully they will sort out those foxes , also what a result with your pears I've seen an awful lot worse on sale in supermarkets, finally hope your feeling much better very soon and say Hi to your mum, xx
Bless your heart for making a vlog when you're not feeling well . 🙏 ❤ 🍻
Every year it’s a different fruit bonanza!
Mulberries, apricots, pears. Next year, apples! Mark my words 😂

Hi great job today hope the foxes 🦊 don’t get at the plants again hope it work and please feel better soon ❤

Get well soon hun xx love from Belgium
Hi Jessie you are very skilled yes it looks fabulous & get better soon lv Irene 😘 xx
I am not slowing down either as this is my first year at my allotment, grown nothing this year, but already started sowing and growing for next year.
Hi Jessie and your Mum, I really hope the prototype works well for you. Get well soon Jess best of luck 🤞🤞

Hi Jesse how do you store all the food you've grown ? Could you do a video ?
Little bit of heat on the pipes jes. X

Ingenious 😊 what netting do you use. I bought some this year supposed to be butterfly resistant and i had massws of caterpilars on my brassica's
Summer is ending, Lil' is gong to be big again soon.

Do U think if U sprinkle pepper around the beds that it would keep the fixes away.
im dreaming of bean tops already hehe
hi jessie, cool video agent where did you buy this system?
Dear young lady please get well soon it looks like you are having a bad time of it…… I’m very interested to see if your idea with the neting works well. again please take care of yourself
Great work well done
Hi Jessie, hope you’re feeling better? What urn clips did you use please? X
Hi Jess why don't you try a hair dryer, the heat may soften it enough to sweat ti on.
Where do you by de netting?
Try heating pipe in hot water and then push in fittings. Min
Was thinking a heat gun might be a good option for getting your connections in Instead of a file?
is there a danger of giving blackflies a headstart if you grow fieldbeans... maybe not.i didnt get any on my broadbeans this year, maybe it was too wet and cold for them, they only appeared after the broadbeans had finished
