my top 3: -kingdom of ash -house of earth & blood -juniper & thorn I read 26 books this year and was lucky to have enjoyed pretty much everything. I definitely want to continue with quality books over quantity in the new year 🤍 I hope everyone else has a great & fun new reading year!
Katie , since the year is close to an end , I want to thank you for providing us with such comforting , aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable videos to watch. You are literally one of my favorite people on TH-cam and I will most likely drop anything I’m doing to watch a new video of yours as soon as you post
the way you talk about these books makes me REALLY want to read them... you just happily expressing your love for these books is so convincing to me. i feel like i have a weird thing about fantasy idk but i read more realistic type of stuff but the way you describe how they're whimsical and magical.. its just so! alluring? most of these are now on my reading list btw
love theoretically truly has some sort of magic in it, it worked!! whatever's in it got me hooked, what a jem also that edition of if we were villains is to die for
my top three books of 2023 in no particular order: 1. Happy Place by Emily Henry 2. Powerless by Elsie Silver 3. Babel by R.F. Kuang my top two fave series (bc i couldn’t think of three) in no particular order: The Chestnut Springs series (Elsie Silver) ACOTAR (Sarah J. Maas)
I read lot of good books this year but my favourite books of this year must be Raven cycle series. I just love the characrers so much, they are just hilarious. Starless sea is sitting on my shelf for quite a while and after I saw the quote from in this video I realized I have to read it asap. And congrats for 70k Katie, just keep going you are the best. :) 🖤
I just bought The Final Empire the other day - I tried reading it in 2021 and DNFed at 30% even though I absolutely loved it, but for some reason I couldn't pick it back up and got into a reading slump. Every time I go to a bookshop (literally, every time) I look at the book, and I spent who knows how long looking at different editions online thinking I should buy it and finish reading it, and I feel like January 2024 is finally going to be that time. Anyway. Yay!
the amount of books i have read or purchased because of you mentioning them. can always count on you for recommendations! hope 2024 is another good reading year for you ♡♡
I LOVED If We Were Villains. The first time I read it and the second time I listened to the audiobook and it was great! It really made getting through the Shakespeare much easier and more fun!
As someone who was not very versed on Shakespeare until I had a 2hour lecture on him I get it. Some easy starters are The Tempest, A midsummer’s dream, and if you like 10 things I hate about you try the taming of the shrew. I recommend getting the no fear Shakespeare to get started, read the modern English first, then go back and read the Shakespeare. My prof had us read the play and the adaptations they created, as well as the inspo for Shakespeares stories. It helped a fair amount!!
I guess i'm a series person through and through, because my fave books would be whole series lol, but those are: Green bone saga, All for the game series, Murderbot diaries, Tales from Verania series. So many new favourites, definitely my best reading year!
I started reading the Veronica speedwell series because of how much you mentioned it during the start of the year and it’s become my all time favourite series! A dangerous collaboration is my favourite as well
A Dangerous Collaboration made it onto my Top 10 books of 2023 as well! Along with three V. E. Schwab books (This Savage Song, Our Dark Duet & The Fragile Threads of Power), Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo, Home Before Dark by Riley Sager, One Dark Window & Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig & the Spy x Family manga by Tatsuya Endo (of which I have read the first five volumes in 2023). As honorable mentions, I would like to add Love, Theoretically, Six Crimson Cranes by Elizabeth Lim and My Mess Is a Bit of a Life by Georgia Pritchett. I'm so happy with the reading year I had in 2023, I found so many new favourites 🧡
if you're looking for any more historical books, i highly recommend Belladonna! its set in the 1850s, low fantasy (mostly plant magic and spirits), and a mystery with a romance sideplot :)
Erin Morgenstern is my absolute favourite author! The Night Circus and The Starless Sea absolutely took my breath away!! They represent the exact type of books I love to read...my gosh I don't even know what they did to me but they truly proved that great beauty exists in writing! ❤
The Veronica Speedwell Series was also my favorite from this year! I read the whole series in 2 weeks and then immeditely reread it. A Dangerous Collaboration is my favorite from it too! I read that one right after I watched A Haunting In Venice and it gave really similar vibes in my opinion.
i am incredibly impressed that you read all of the veronica speedwell series in 2 weeks!! it really is addictive!! but i'm so happy to hear that you loved it!💗
I'm super surprised about your Top 2. I mean, you barely mentioned them😂 For me, 3rd place goes to 'Strange the Dreamer', 2nd place to 'The Chronicles of Narnia' and 1st place to 'The Tenant of Wildfell Hall'. I hope you have a wonderful New Year, Katie. Your vlogs always bring so much joy, I can't even express it. Thank you for all of it💕
i know i talk about them constantly bahaha, it's just what they deserve!! also i am so happy to hear that strange the dreamer made your top three🥺 i hope you also have a wonderful new year!!💗💗
Half a Soul was one of my favorites this year! I think you would love Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell. I went into it not knowing anything about it and that made it even better.
My favorite book of the year is "As long as the lemon trees grow" by Zoulfa Katouh. Ik I've said this before on Emmie's channel. But trust me, it's so good and tragic that I can't stop talking about it. I need more people to read this book and feel the emotions I've felt😭. And Katie, you ought to read this book(it's a historical fiction) but beware it's so heartbreaking that you might sob your eyes out😭.
Just finished this new, original collection of fairy tales, entitled 'Sillies, Fancies, and Trifles' - its perfect for the season. What's everyone else reading, I want some more recommendations to add to the lovely ones here. Keep up the beautiful videos :)
I love Love Theoretically A LOT! it surprises me how much i love and still think about it, and I gave it 5 stars! I never give rom coms five stars. Jack is my favorite boy in a book
half a soul is on my priority tbr list for next year now lmao. also the starless sea is also in my top 3 books of the year! starless sea, mexican gothic and the ballad of never after owned my heart this year
Glad you loved the Starless Sea. I bought a copy this year after reading the Night Circus in 2022. My top 3 this year...Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, and Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree. I need to start reading Brandon Sanderson. Love your channel!
ali hazelwood defs helped my fear of the romance genre in general also being a woman in stem myself i feel as if my peers often look down on woman in general and esp woman who read romance so its so nice to read science based romance stories like that
You got me hooked on Yona, I read the first 20 volumes but now I can't get them from my library anymore so I started buying them. Still far away from volume 40 but I'm getting there.
Top 3 books probably When in Rome, Mr. Malcolm's List, Shadow and Bone. I have Half a Soul in my tbr for next year since I was gifted it this year and never got to it
this year is a really good reading year for me too. i mean, its only the second year of reading for me. so far, i've read 60 books and i think that is so great since i just started reading last year. my favorite books this year obviously throne of glass series (not finish yet btw), these twisted bonds, princess of souls, the heart of betrayal and heartless. actually acotar series too because of course. can't wait for your videos in 2024. and thankyou for a lot of recommendations i got from you. just know that half a soul and the starless sea are already on my tbr. 🗝⭐️
60 books is amazing!! i'm so glad to hear you have had so many favorites!! also i really hope you love half a soul and the starless sea when you (hopefully) pick them up!!!🥰
My favorite three books of the year are Eva Evergreen Semi-Magical Witch, Fourth Wing, and The Infernal Devices. Honorable mentions are Tress of the Emerald Sea and The Seven Year Slip. My favorite manga of the year are Yona of the Dawn, Witch Hat Atelier, and The King's Beast. I also really enjoyed Hi, I’m a witch, and my crush wants me to make a love potion, and The Savior's Book Cafe Story in Another World.
Emily Wilde LETS GOOOOO!!! My top 3 are definitely The Stolen Heir, Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries, and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue! All the books I read this year were bangers tbh but those 3 have my SOUL XD Stolen heir is defos my fave....but I'm not really sure which one would be second or 3rd out of the other 2 🤔
I agree with the quality over quanity statement! I would say my top five books were... 5.) Lady Tan's Circle of Women 4.) Love, Theoretically 3.) Happy Place 2.) Daisy Jones and the Six 1.) The Woman in Me
If you want to get into Shakespeare, I would suggest watching some decent movie adaptations. A favourite of mine is the 1993 version of Much Ado About Nothing. Whilst some people suggest that you should watch Shakespeare not read it, I do personally enjoy reading his plays. Another way that may help getting into his writings is possibly to read William Shakespeare’s Star Wars by Ian Doescher or his other scripts, Much Ado About Mean Girls, Taming of the Clueless or Get thee Back to the Future. All of these books are great because they are hilarious and if you know the movies, the language isn’t as daunting.
If We Were Villains The Starless Sea Rebecca Crime and Punishment Bunny These are my top 5 books of 2023 The Autobiography of a Yogi Frankenstein The Girl Who Drank the Moon These are my runner ups ❤
Check out Kenneth brannagh movie adaptations of Shakespeare plays. Hamlet, much ado about nothing etc... I loved half a soul too, and the 2nd is good too! Starless sea is on my shelves waiting for meeee ❤
DON'T ASK ME FOR ONLY 3 BOOKS asjdlkjsdjskd impossible! - One dark window - Fourth wing - Heaven official's blessing vol 6-8 - The House in the Cerulean Sea - Once upon a broken heart - Palladin (Onley James) - Edin (Lily Mayne)
I personally question quality over quantity. Do we really know the quality of a book straight away? What about the books that are total trash but for whatever reason we love any way? And finally if one persons goal is to read 10 ‘quality’ books in a year and another persons goal is to read 200 books in a year, surely the person that reads more will find more than 10 ‘quality’ or even just books that they love regardless of quality. Just a few thoughts. Absolutely love the vids, Katie and regardless of my rambling you and everyone else should read in whatever way you feel comfortable with, not that you would suggest otherwise 😂
TBH I think I enjoyed Legends & Lattes so much because I bought & read it with you during that trip 💀
🥺🥺 i love that!
I really like how you included a quote from each book😊

Half of a Soul is one of my favorite book and also a recommendation if a short romance in a historical setting is needed.
I LOVED If We Were Villains. The first time I read it and the second time I listened to the audiobook and it was great! It really made getting through the Shakespeare much easier and more fun!

I adored Secret Society of Irregular Witches
I am with you. I read 193 books and I Don't know how I feel about that
WOO for being a woman in STEM! I also am a woman in STEM and I have not yet read any Alli Hazelwood books. Maybe this should be a goal for 2024?
Please recommend me books about new technologies, cosmos, advantage.
I didn't read a lot of book, so how to get started?
Thanks 😊
I have to know... What do you film on? The quality is always SO GOOD and the audio! AHHH, do you use a mic??
I need your earrings ❤❤
Just found your channel and am enjoying it a great deal. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE your sword earrings. Where did you get them?
You should read Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson!!!!
I looove your necklace Katie, where is it from??
I personally question quality over quantity. Do we really know the quality of a book straight away? What about the books that are total trash but for whatever reason we love any way? No one:
Me -who discovered this channel because this year I became obsessed with Yona- watching this video be like: tell me more

180? Wow... I unlike most people do not count audiobooks as reads but still that is a lot of titles.

You gave me the push I needed to give a romance book another try with your description of Love Theoretically 🫣
