You basically explained one of the main reasons why the R8 has always been my dream car. Like it’s still an exotic looking supercar but it’s less “douchey” than say a Lambo. It has a nice classy look. Nobody does understated elegance like Audi.

The R8 really is the gentleman's supercar. It's more capable than the Aston line up with respect to handling, and more appropriate for street use than the Huracan. Also very easy to get in and out which cannot be said for the McLarens
You are quite possibly the only TH-cam car review channel that shows the speedo while doing pulls on the car. And I absolutely love it! It’s so hard to tell just how fast a car is on a car review when they blur the speedo

I haven't driven a lot of cars in my life. Not a huge fan of such cars anymore (life happened, though I do enjoy seeing them on the road and hearing them), but I completely underappreciated the R8. You've enlighten me, I thank you for that. I'm new to the channel BTW.

The R8 RWS was non-inspiring to me when I drove, I think the R8 v10+ is a whole different ball park in terms of how special it feels. Looked at the 570s, gt3, even the f type R, but this is the perfect 'one car garage' for me :))
I'm so grateful for being able to see POV reviews from you! Though, i would like to make two improvement proposals. 1. The voice recordings sound a bit weird when recorded with binaural audio. It switches channels with every word. (0:54 for reference) Your voice should come from a classic straight stero sound, however for driving, the binaural recording is amazing! Just not for voice. 2. The angle of the POV camera lens is so wide, (3:04 for reference) the lines are bend and make the R8 look smaller than it it. It's too much of a fisheye effect in my opinion. Try to correct the lines in post or change the settings in the camera so that it's a bit more cropped in and make it look more real and natural as opposed to distorted. Maybe you guys appreciate feedback. It's just for improvement, no critics at all. I love your Contentl!
Very perceptive with the audio. There was a slight glitch which caused that with Final Cut. With regards to the video... this is Wide mode, not superview (which is what most POVers use). It's best suited for inside the car for a natural feel, and it can have a "too wide" impact outside the car. It really comes down to the purpose of the video. I can always add complexity to a video, but that also adds time and money to the equation. Between freelance work, Winding Road Magazine, and This channel I produce over 20 videos per month. That time isn't always available.
One of the main complaints of the RS3 is the plastic shift paddles, which in a $60k car is annoying, but in an R8 that costs 3x as much? That's a damn travesty. Good thing the noise makes up for it.
15:15 not true, you don't need to go to supercar levels to get this kind of fun. 981 Caymans are basically exactly that. Probably the most hidden gems on the market right now. They rev freely and beautifully, sound absolute amazing if specced with sport exhaust or aftermarket. Such insane value. Now of course, its not exactly a performance per dollar car, if you want that, just get a Type R or something. but if you want fun, noise, mid chassis, rotation, confidence, and feel good kinda sports car. This is an absolute hidden gem.
I definitely agree you can have a lot of fun (arguably more fun) in great sports cars like the 981 Cayman or Civic Type R...I'm the biggest advocate for "slow car fast," but they do not feel like a "supercar." There is a marked step from a sports car to a super car and that is even noticeable between the non-plus to the plus. That's all I'm saying. Absolutely no disrespect to lower dollar sports cars.

Theres something nice about fast responding, no rev hang, and just overall nice and agile feeling natural engines that provides a different kind of fun. But definitely don't necessarily need to go to a r8 level to get that fun. Although now that i think of it....aside from the 981, i genuinely cannot think of anything else that could give that same type of fun/rev feel. So maybe 981 is the lowest one can go for something like this :( The only budget option i can think of without rev hang or a janky engine feel is...maybe a 370z? Which is...kind of an uncompetitive car in the market nowadays (not in terms of performance)
Look, obviously there is a fuckton of amazing sounding cars. However, i think there's just nothing quite like an V10. They always get me. Looking through the different eras of F1 it was the same for me too. Always preferred the V10s over any other sound there, even including the mighty V12 engines. They just sound so refined and orchestra like yet still absolutely violent or even terrifying on instances (F1 V10s for example) when climbing the rev range. Amazing engines...
Speaking o’ paddle shifters, I went to test drive two SUVs today - A Durango R/T and an Explorer ST and I channeled my best Tedward on ramp paddle shifter upshifts while enjoying the V8 in the Dodge and the Turbos in the Ford. It was very enjoyable. Thank you for this great content. :)
I didn’t mind it at all, but I’m in an F-150 so that’s pretty bumpy over broken pavement. I found the ST to ride very nicely. The power delivery was incredibly smooth in it.
5:00 when you switch to dynamic the car automatically switches the gearbox to sport. so you just put it back into normal drive and back into sport when you pulled the shifter
I drive an audi with a DL501 dual clutch and I know precisely what you mean when you talk about the stopping and the gearbox wanting to go. I would have thought they would have ironed that out in the higher end cars but apparently not.
My buddy had one of these. It's funny because he sold it to get a gt3rs. So the opposite from this owner. 😂 This thing drives like a dream! I own a c7 z06 and the r8 v10 plus it's much easier to drive and to live with! Although my z06 beat him from a slow rolling start and a highway pull 😏... In Mexico 🇲🇽

The motor sounds like it is straining in the upper RPM range. I think the GT3 & GT4 sound better in the upper RPM range, they sound like they are meant to be there, the R8 sounds like it's begging for mercy.

One of the things that bothers me about this car is the way it presents what gear you’re in. M1S? M2S? I know I’m shifting manually because I pulled the paddle, and I know I’m in Sport mode because I pushed the button. If I’m hammering it around a technical bit of road, the last thing I want is to spend any time looking at unnecessary information from my instruments, especially surrounding something as critical as what gear I’m in.
Great video as usual. I'd love to see you drive the 992 Turbo S. It has all of the upsides of the R8 (except for maybe the sound) but with WAY more torque.

The r8 is wayyyy down on torque as well. Engine wise its like an amplified e92 M3. Definitely needs a downshift or two of you want to rocket away 🚀. That 992 will just disappear with a hint of throttle at 2500rpm 😂

Seems very user friendly for something that goes that fast. Don't know that much about the R8 trims but I'd certainly take this over a Huracan.

The turbo is great but also sterile. There’s no sense of occasion in the 991 turbo, which is what makes it a weapon for a daily driver
