    My Honda generator had been sitting idle for a couple years and wouldn’t start so I hit TH-cam university for a fix. Stumbled upon this gem and followed his step by step guide. It worked perfectly! It’s not too hard and I had limited tools as well. I will make a point that be sure you put the washer back on the carburetor secure screw BEFORE you put everything back together …or gasoline WILL leak when you get it started up and you will have to repeat all the steps again… but you will be faster the second time! Thanks for your help!!😂

    Hello Jon. I wanted to take the time to thank you for making this DIY video. I followed your steps to the “T”. Put it all back together again, pulled it twice and it started right up. It’s running like it’s new. What makes your video so great is your attention to detail. Everything from the exact tools you need, to the bread wire, to the east step by step instructions. Well done. 👍. I live in Puerto Rico and this generator brought me through Hurricane Maria. I ran over three months straight. Being in the middle of hurricane season now and not being able to start your generator is not a good feeling. You my friend helped so much. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video and educating us DIY guys. I hope I can return the favor some how. For now, I will pay it forward to folks on the island that need help.

    rarely make comments on these kinda forums but had to give a shout out!!! generator been sitting for about 6 months and for weeks I couldn't get it started. Video was a life saver, can't thank you enough!! just follow along, directions are on point, very easy for DIY, started with 2nd pull after cleaning jet. Surprisingly, jet didn't look clogged or dirty at all but working well now. thanks again, much appreciative of the video.

    Thanks Jon, I have the same generator and it wouldn't start. I went to the produce section of my local store got a few twist ties and it worked perfectly. As others mentioned the jet wasn't coming out real easy, but I would push it from the top (inside the carb) back and forth a few times and it popped out...I was stoked, you made my day

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is awesome! Glad you got it working. It’s not a bad idea to start it once a month to keep those jets from gumming up.

    Shear genius!!! Thank-you Jon. I bought both the Honda 2001i inverter and companion generators less than one year ago. Both were extremely difficult to start from the initial purchase (took over 100 pulls on each one before the intial startup). Always difficult to start ever sense (less than 3 hrs usage in the last year). Yesterday the companion generator wouldn't start at all. Viewed your video last night and cleaned out the main jet as described. Only took 20 mins to perform the repair. To my amazement, the companion generator started up on the first pull!!! Thank-you Jon for the great video and saving my marriage.

    I like to give credit where credit is due! Looked at a few sites to help with our Honda 2000 generator.....nothing changed. Found Jon's site.....easy fix is right! Step by step and taking out and cleaning the jets was the key! Thank you so much for your tutorial. Our generator has less than 50 hours on it in 10+ years, so being able to fix this ourselves was a huge savings. Again, thank you for your knowledge and posting so that we all can learn and do it ourselves!

    Kudos Jon! I have an EU2000i that I have had for years. It has minimal running hours on it and has been sitting unused for so long I don't remember when. It would start but not run. So I followed your instruction here on the tube religiously and to the letter. The bread tie trick to open the jet orifices worked so slick I had to laugh. Oil change, new plug, fresh 91 non ethanol after I followed your directions she fired off on the third pull. Purrs like a kitten, runs like new. I highly recommend this tutorial to anybody having start/run problems with their Honda.

    Thank you for this video! I couldn't get our Honda EU2000 going at our remote cabin in Alaska (24 miles from nearest road). No Internet out there so I brought it home. Thanks so much for your video. I also stored the same model you show here 4 years ago thinking I was safe by draining the regular car gas out, but when I needed it today it didn't start after 30 minutes of exercise pulling on the rope. Thankfully your video popped up first and after watching it twice I gave it a try and it started on the second pull this time! Filled it up with the gas you can find at Home Depot for small engines and hope that when I need it next time it will work. Also going to try to remember starting every couple months to be sure, but we'll see if I remember, I think I remember saying that 4 years ago too. :)

    Funny thing, Jon. I was "youtubing" generator videos this morning (looking for a new one for my RV) and your new video popped up in my recommendations. I had one of those Hondas and loved it! Just too small for my needs. I only have one supplier for non-ethanol gas here. It's an airport located about 45 mins away. They sell non-ethanol aviation fuel for about $2.00 more per gallon than "gas station" fuel. I like the ones that run on propane for traveling. At the end, I thought that Explorer was a police cruiser in your driveway :)

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s interesting, in MN just about every gas station has premium non ethanol gas. Of course just about everyone here has a boat, snowmobile or ATV. It’s only about .20 more a gallon too.
      Your not the only one who think our explorer is a police cruiser. When I get behind someone they always slow down. It can be annoying at times. 😂

    Awesome video! Don't forget about the little black plastic idle jet on top of the carb. The holes in that are even smaller. Usually surges while running. Especially when on ECO mode. Its plastic and cheap almost easier to just change out. I had to use a wire from a wire brush and it barely fit. :) Ran smooth as glass after no surging.

    Hi Jon - Really appreciate the way you took us through this procedure - I'm having one problem - no matter how much I'm tapping; I can't get the jet out - the screw came out immediately - HELP! and thank you

    • @taftr
      @taftr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you open the choke and look down the throat of the carb you will see the top of the jet sticking out about a 1/16 of an inch. Take your small screwdriver and GENTLY press it down towards the bowl. That should free it up.... Make sure when you clean the jet, you take a little time to clean out the passage the jet goes into on the carb. The Key to preventing this is to shut off the gas, and use the drain to empty out the bowl... Especially when the generator is going to be stored. Add some fuel stabilizer to the tank every time you fill it to help keep things running smooth

    Nice to have this video, appreciate that. My EU2200i won't start out of the box. If I am expected to remove and take apart the carburetor to get it to start, I'll just have to look for another option.

    I found pulling one of the bristles from an older SS wire brush worked really well for poking through the jet holes. Would be a good idea to order an O ring kit just in case as well. the EU2000i and EU1000i both use the same O rings.

    Yup! 20 - 30 pulls and no starting after winter storage although I had added fuel conditioner to the gas before storage. Actually, this is after a winter's storage from replacing the carb because of the issue with an after market carb. And the new carb jet gummed up! This 'fix' worked great and the problem now is how to prevent future gumming issues. Empty the tank and run the carb dry? Drain the float bowl and hopefully the jet at the same time without taking the carb off? Anyway, once performed, the fix disassembly is not a long procedure. Thanks!

    Pardon a question. ALthough your process and instructions are excellent, when we opened the air filter compartment, the filter was soaked with oil. Generator not used for about 4 months, last time it started fine. Do you know the reason for air filter getting full of oil? Please and thank you

    Here in Jersey, I've never seen non-ethanol gas for sale near me. There are 9 stations located in the southern part of the state. Not worth the trip or the price.
    Never had a problem with any of my gas powered equipment. Sears Lawn Tractor, Echo weed whacker and blower backpack, Stihl chainsaw. I've had them for years.
    Here is the trick, beside regular maintenance, I use a product in the Regular gas that I use in them called Sea Foam. A can cost about 11 dollars. At the end of the season I pour a few ounce's into the tank and let it run for a few minutes. Never ever had a problem.

    Nice vid but I have a question: Why did you not drain the bowl using the screw that opens the bowl to empty via hose. Also how did you take out the carburetor w/o disconnecting the cables on top. thanks.

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late reply, I would imagine you've solved this issue by now. If now I would try to get it out with a small pick or maybe even a nail that might fit. As far as the butterfly goes I'm not too sure what you could do.

    Thanks for the video! I can't for the life of me get the jet out. The top screw fell out. I opened the choke and was able to push it down, but it's stuck. Any advice?

    • @ritterjon
      @ritterjon  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have a pick or even a finish mail you might be able to put it down into the jet and wiggle it free to pull it out. Also try spraying some carb cleaner to free it up. Best of luck, that can be a pain sometimes.

    To avoid spilling fuel when, you undo the nut on the fuel bowl on the bottom of the carb, open the bleeder screw and drain it.
