  • IN this video we visit the famous Nuremberg Christmas Market. This market is known for its lebkuchen, Nurnberger bratwurst, and the Christkind. We try some new foods including Lebkuchen cookies, Dampfknudel, kartoffelpuffers, and schokokussen. This is a great market and we recommend visiting it if you are in Bavaria during the holidays.

    Merry Christmas and happy holidays to your family.
    Regarding your question about who delivers the Chrismas presents:
    St. Nicolas is just bringing some small treats / gifts during the night of 5.-6. of December and will put those into the cleaned boots of the children which were put at the front of your entrance door.
    For Christmas eve then, it depends in the area (southern or northern part of Germany) you are living.
    In the southern part, it's usually the "Christkind" - but you won't see it, as it will put the gifts during afternoon under your christmas tree in the living room, while no-one is allowed to enter the living room. During the end of dinner, one of the parents pretents he heared a little bell ringing and will ask the children if they heared it as well. Then the kids are allowed to check out the living room...
    In the northern part it's Santa Claus "Weihnachtsmann". Usually it's either a relative or friend of the family in disguise. He will personally knock at the door with the presents in his sack. He will ask the kids and parents if they behaved during the year and may even ask them to either sing a verse of a Christmas song or receite a Christmas poem. As of course everyone behaved, he will then handover the gifts personally to each family member and leave afterwards pretenting he has more deliveries to do...

      Thanks for the comment! Last year I had the pleasure of spending Christmas with a German family and they celebrated just like you mentioned in southern Germany. It is neat to see how Christmas is celebrated in different areas.

    Vielen lieben Dank for this videos from my neighbourhood! Yes, never buy no name Lebkuchen at the groceries, you did it right! And in Austria the Dampfnudel comes with a filling of damson puree, vanilla/milk sauce and strewn with poppy and sugar and is called Germknödel. Easy to make it at home, since you can buy the Dampfnudeln at the groceries. Frohe Weihnachten für Euch alle! 💙🌲☘

      Thanks for watching! Never heard of a damson before but it looks delicious. I think I have seen advertisements for Germknodel at some markets where we live too.

      We really liked the Dresden market. I love the blueberry gluwein and Maria loves the apple gluwein.

    Thanks for the tour of the Christmas market. I’m going to visit next Christmas, I have to decide which markets that I want to visit, this one looks amazing. Do you need to know a lot of German or just the basics?

    • @trailblazinpeppers
      @trailblazinpeppers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most people we came in contact with spoke at least some English. Just the basics will be fine.

    6:15 I think the story of the "Zwetschgamoh" (prune men) goes like this: an old poor man in a village became ill. The children in the village brought him his groceries. Out of gratitude, he built little men for the children out of dried prunes. Is there a more beautiful story? 😍

      Wow that is a great story. I also heard one version where a poor father couldn't buy gifts for his children for Christmas so he used whatever he had which were prunes and wire to craft the dolls for his children.
