I remember the night this was broadcast. I remember going into school the following Monday, and me and my best mate saying "Did you SEE that guy?!" Saturday Live, and the late 80s comedy scene generally, was full of this sort of thing, not just floppy haired wankers talking about their dead dad.
This clip in particular haunted me. I never forgot it, but I forgot who it was. Years later - 2012 - I did manage to find out who it was, and tried to buy a tape of the show (bizarrely from ITN for some reason). It would have cost £145. I politely declined.
I'm therefore incredibly happy that someone who has access to the original has decided to share it. Thank you so much, not least for proving that no, I didn't dream it.

I've just found a ticket from Tuesday 18th August 1987 for John Hegley and Andrew Bailey (aka Frederick Benson). It was hilarious especially when I heckled him and he came off the stage wielding some vicious looking clamps. Heckle clamps he called them. I also have a memory of him at some other time on some saturday morning kids programme with him hanging over the battlements of Edinburgh Castle. Hilarious

Andrew Bailey - actor - bit part in a Bergerac - did fringe with John Hegley as Benson and Hegley
