Hello I recently had a ancient coin authenticated as genuine by NGC and David R. Sear, but I’ve heard people tell me that they don’t guarantee authenticity and that I shouldn’t take their final word as being true. If that’s the case who’s word should I take on knowing whether my coin is authentically ancient or not?

That is an excellent question. I did some digging and found this on the NGC website: "Authenticity - NGC Ancients will only grade coins that it believes to be genuine. Authenticity and attribution represent the opinion of NGC Ancients and are not guaranteed, nor is any guarantee implied. Please see the NGC Ancients Coin Grading Guarantee for complete information."
I must say I was surprised to see this yet, if their experts have authenticated the coin, I would feel good about it and I would think most collectors would also. Glad you pointed this out. I am pinning your comment. 👍

Awesome history there. I would like to get a few Roman coins. So much to choose from, and like you mentioned, often not expensive. 👍👍

Yes, very cheap when one considers the history behind them. It still rattles my mind when I think about people in togas using these coins!

Those are some lovely coins. I still haven't picked up any ancients yet, though I've just started poking around a bit in the literature.

Yes. Lots of information out there and ancient coins is such a vast area of numismatics. If I buy anything more, it would be a first century Roman coin.

Galba,Otho and Vitellius were the 3 emperors prior to Vespasian with Vitellius being murdered by Vespasian's army so he could become emperor. He and his 2 sons were part of the Flavian dynasty. He was part of Nero' inner circle, but stayed neutral for the most part.Vespasian was a good military leader and his army loved him.He would rule for 27 years and die of natural causes, unlike most Roman emperors
