Tupac's music was not radio friendly like Biggie's was. PAC had a few radio songs but most of his stuff u couldn't play on the radio. That was always one of the things i heard people say why Biggie music was better because it could be played on the radio.

i personally like me against the world more than ready to die but im fairly certain ready to die did better commercially. That doesnt make it the better album but i think critical consensus is fairly even between the 2, so you can def make an argument that means the commercial performance of Biggie gives him the better album/year. Then again, Ready to die was actually released in 1994 so one can argue that it wasn't actually 1995 either. Of course Biggie prob had more prolific features and B-side type records in 1995 since Pac spent most of the year in jail.

That's a great point...ready to die was late 94 MATW early 95 but big was the biggest rapper in 95 and ofcourse pac spent most of 95 in jail
Funny how even thou big didnt released a album in 95 songs like one more chance remix, who shot ya, and songs like get money and players anthem were some of the biggest songs of the year (I believe he also had a song with Michael Jackson that got alot of radio play that year too)

I think a lot of really hardcore Pac/Death Row fans may have some negative emotions toward him cuz of their feud and their feeling that he didnt do right by Pac etc I try to just deal with the music side of things since i didnt know either of them personally. Quite honestly, I've always felt Big was a little overrated even though still a great GREAT artist just not in the convo for GOAT with Pac, Nas, even Jay Z but just thats JUST my opinion. I realize that if we are trying to take the discussion into a more "objective" realm, then critics/accolades, can def paint him possibly even THE GREATEST.

Badboy Records was starting to release singles and music and Biggie’s album in 1994...
Iirc Craig Mack popped things off in either the Spring or early Summer (double check that) and it was being "hyped" that Craig Mack was the next greatest thing but also he had been featured in 1993 singles for Uptown Records...
During this time while Tupac was just out of the legal issue with the two criminal cops in the south in late 1993, he was gonna go do shooting for Above the Rim movie and soundtrack which is early 1994 or so iirc when Biggie approaches Tupac to allegedly be "friends" unless I'm mistaken and it was in 93 which I doubt.
Then in 1994 while Tupac's between working on Above the Rim, the soundtrack, his next album before he changed it AND the Thug Life Vol1 album is where that party chick got sent to him to set him up and then that Haitian Jack and Henchman and Puffy and Biggie were all pretending to be friends with Tupac when Tupac's really competition who's albums and hit singles kept rising every year plus the movie game... people don't realize how it wad before the party girl set up allegations and Tupac did talk a lot and he could be annoying at times but then he'd have a smash movie role and hit singleS and say something right and you knew he had haters hating and being fake especially when he did the Poetic Justice movie, Janet Jackson ghosted him then Madonna gets introduced to him and they were very quietly being seen... that's some hard pull for a talented rapper and actor to just pull Madonna herself... then that same year iirc Biggie’s album hadn't been released until later in 1994 which is just after Tupac got sent to.prison after the Quad Studios Incident...
In August the supposedly not televised The Source Awards 94 show is when the last award went to Tribe Called Quest where during their final speech Tupac was the closing act and his music started, he snatched the mic from Tribe mid speech and rapped Out on Bail hard... that show was definitely fully taped but the people who taped it are NYC ppl and The Source magazine chief Benzino is actually a huge Badboy Records promoter and buddy of Puffy... so once Tupac got set up to be robbed and shot (public humiliation) there's photos of Biggie wearing the SAME jewelry that was robbed from Tupac...
So think about it... Tupac wad set up, robbed, shot, heavy injuries then sent to prison for the allegations so even if Tupac had released Me Against the World album there was just no way he could go out and promote it, go to shows, go to Arsenio Hall Show, etc instead it was like Biggie was sent straight to MTV into 1995... because Puffy was connected with people in MTV... come on other rappers who had really excellent albums and singles weren't being sent to MTV outside of Yo MTV Raps so of course back then if you was a real hardcore hip hop fan and you knew about stuff marketing people do plus that Biggie’s music took a lot of styles and words from Tupac's music and if you were Biggie and Puffy and frustrated East Coast crews who hated that Eazy E, Dr Dre, Snoop, Tupac and other west coast artists kept making club bangers... plus with the legal accusations against Snoop who also couldn't show up to things so DPG was mostly Daz and Kurupt and kinda lost momentum despite having an excellent album so Reggie is quite correct... it definitely "seemed" like Biggie’s album and music, remember that the songs took entire former 80s hit singles Instrumentals... not some skilled samples like other rappers strived for... and The Source and other allied NYC magazines pretty much GAVE Biggie "the great white hope" type hype which in all seriousness seems BIASED in back then and in retrospect because we all knew that once the second albums came, the artists would be revealed yet Biggie was being jumped off other artists music and styles being rapped over plus Puffy made sure to bring his other acts while he ditched the Uptown Records artists that supposedly he was supposed to help and Craig macks second album quickly came and quietly got snubbed... he had no feats in Biggie’s and Junior Mafia and Lil Kim's albums... you notice that?
So of course it would seem Biggie had all of 1995 which in the grand scheme looks weird... once Tupac's free however it meant Doom for Badboy Records even if say Tupac had stayed quiet cause West coast rap would have pushed him.out

Bear with me if reads disorganized but following into 1995 while Tupac was in prison and iirc Deathrow Records did have smash albums and were invited to The Source Awards 1995 which became televised in some channels or just BET... depending on what's available IF it was available back then and you'll notice that there was a type of contest on who was getting the most awards where Deathrow Records artists and the Above the Rim soundtrack and Dr Dre and Ice Cube's 94 single and video were awards to Deathrow Records and Dr Dre as producer/performer while it seemed like Biggie was single handedly being GIVEN, numerically the same number of awards... awards not nominations but the actual award and something is suspicious about that so if you saw this from a certain way you'd feel like the Source Awards 95 had a type of bias and was deliberately snubbing artists or something and that shoe was in August 95 so afterwards is when Snoop kept telling Suge to get Tupac out of prison... so imagine that...
Me Against the World had some nice songs but few videos because Tupac was in prison... so even if it did well, the stations only played certain songs and Tupac's friends made some music video for Temptations which was reused for "It's too hot" for another artist...
So notice that in the Source Awards 95, every time Biggie wins, it's like he's really arrogant and rubbing it in that he won... but in a combative stance like saying "I beat your a$$"... go watch it... and it makes you wonder if there was a connection with what happened to Tupac, allegations, your name gets disgraced, then you get set up, robbed/humiliated and mortaly injured then sent to prison?
Then you're OUT of the rap game, in prison most of 95... you can't do anything until you got bail paid... so you couldn't be at the Source Awards 95...
Then notice how the Source Awards got canceled in 1996, the Source magazine refused to review (give mics) to All Eyez on Me album or any of Tupac's music... maybe California Love... barely... and there was no Source awards in 1997 or 1998... they had to wait for Suge to be in prison so they could do their awards in 1999... and you still don't believe that other people didn't start the beef against the West coast artists and labels?
