Hello there. I believe you can but the footage may be saved in 1gb chunks on the NAS box. One of my relatives has this box so next time I see them i'll check it out and see how you do it.
Hi Andy. Great vid for a numpty like me. My question...I am using this NVR to link to a POE camera inside an Owl nest box in spring. I may record 24/7 for the first week to see how much video is recorded. Each week I will visit the site and will want to copy that footage taken onto an external drive. I would imagine there might be a fair amount of footage from the week. Would you know what would be the quickest way to copy this footage? A Memory stick or an external HDD for example? And does the built in interface with the DVR allow this function? This stuff is all new to me so would be grateful for any info. Thanks, Steve.
Hello Steve, hope you're well buddy :) If I remember right, it's USB 2.0 on this so it won't be as fast as USB 3.0 but it should still be able to transfer video at a half decent speed. I've always found transfers to be quicker on external hard drives myself. It's should be able to allow you to copy the files from off the NVR box. If you check out 9:22 in the video, it should allow you to export the video when you have your hard drive plugged into the NVR box. It may take a while if you're recording 24/7 but I got a feeling that the box may split the files into something like 1gb chunks so you can tick the box for whichever videos you want to download. If you want to download all the footage then put a tick in the box next to each video. Hopefully that helps a bit. Feel free to drop me a message and i'll try and help more if I can :)
@@Andyhhhdx Ah, that's most useful mate thanks. I will check that bit of your video again. I'm sure I'll have other questions and appreciate your help, ta. Steve.
Hello Darren, hope you're well buddy. I haven't unfortunately. I'm looking at possibly getting another Hilook system soon so i can have a play and see what i can do. I always find that with night vision the best thing to do is try and get some kind of external lighting which i know can be very difficult sometimes. We have recently reviewed a Reolink CCTV camera which seemed to have really bright IR lights on there which didn't do too bad at night, but if you can get some lighting outside then it's the best way to improve things. If you wanted to check out the Reolink review you can access it here - th-cam.com/video/sKcELeVhW5Q/w-d-xo.html Have a good one buddy.
Hello I purchased a HILOOK NVR and reset its settings to factory settings. before the reset the cameras connected well but after the reset I was able to connect my cameras and yet I followed well as you showed in your TH-cam. I would like to show me how I can connect my cameras amon NVR HILOOH THANK YOU
Hello there. Sorry to hear your cameras aren't working. What i would try is: Unplug the cameras from the Hilook NVR for 30 seconds and plug them back in and make sure they click and you get the IR light on there to make sure they're getting power from the box (i'm presuming that you are running just the network lead to power the camera as well as transfer the data) When the camera is plugged in and you get it to search for a camera, does it not pick anything up at all? When you go to the camera option on the Hilook box, does D1, D2, D3 and D4 appear where the cameras should be? Also, it might be worth checking to see if you your CCTV camera has got an IP address on the label, if it has, you could try putting that IP address in for the camera to see if it detects it, you should be able to do that by going onto the camera menu on the NVR box and next to where it says D1 you should see an edit option, if you click on there you should be able to set it to manual and put in the IP address that you have on the label of your camera and see if that gets it to work.
Hi Andy, I've just purchased the Hikvision HiLook DVR-104G-F1. I have 3 questions if I may. 1) I don't need access via a PC/Mobile phone & the DVR will be located a long way from our internet router. But will the DVR still function if it's connected to a computer monitor via the VGA port? i.e. can I set it up & leave it to do its thing. Then view the footage via the monitor screen if necessary? 2) What is the maximum pixel rating it'll support? I'm thinking of adding 4 x 5MP cameras. 3) Will a smaller dimensions 1TB hard drive from a laptop computer fit/work? Thanks in advance mate.
Hello there Dozers Dad :) Thank you for commenting and i'll do my best to help as much as I can :) 1) Yes it will still work if you connect a monitor up to it using the VGA port, I think there is a HDMI port on the back of that box you mentioned too so you can connect it through that also. Once you've got it set up, you can just leave the NVR box running and it will do its thing and you can just switch on your monitor and navigate through the options if you need to play something back or if you just want to monitor it. 2_)I've had a look at the box you've mentioned it looks as though it's a 2MP box, so i'm presuming 5mp cameras will work but you won't get the full quality out of them. It also looks as though the cameras connect through BNC inputs which is different to the NVR box that i've reviewed in this video. The one I reviewed lets you connect IP cameras using ethernet cables whereas yours will be different, so make sure you get cameras which plug into the BNC connectors. 3) The smaller dimension hard drives should work fine as long as it has a SATA connection. You may find that you will need a 3.5" convertor so you can put in one of the laptop drive in there and screw it down, but it depends really on how the inside looks. But for actual connectivity with the SATA cable then it will plug in. It's always best to get with a CCTV hard drive like a Western Digital purple drive as the drives are designed to be left on for long periods. I hope this has helped. Feel free to drop me a message if you have any more questions and i'll do my best to help.
Many thanks mate. I was just finishing off the set up when you replied. The DVR comes with a mouse. That coupled with an old flat screen PC monitor made set up an absolute breeze. I'm not utilising the remote viewing facility but it still does exactly what I need. The only minor downside I can see is it only supports cameras up to 2MP (as you pointed out). Unfortunately they are only approx £10 less per camera than the more modern 5MP cameras. So they appear expensive by comparison. Having said that my current 2MP cameras still work, even at over 7yrs old. However at £60 to replace all 4 I may still do that? Other than that, & for the price it's astonishing value for money Andy 🙂 What should I type into Ebay etc to find a bracket to hold the laptop size 1TB hard drive I have in a full size hard drive frame? A very good and informative video, I still have two questions. Is the JVC screen your computer or is it just a monitor? and, My NVR will be situated in a tight area so will need to set it up before actually having the unit in place, is this do-able?
Hello there buddy :) The JVC screen is actually my TV. As long as your monitor or TV has either HDMI or a VGA connector on it then the box should connect up fine to it. The unit is plug and play and when you connect the network cables from the camera and plug them into the back of the CCTV box then they should work without you having to mess about with IP addresses. The one thing i would suggest plug the box in and switch it on (doesn't need cameras connected) and just make sure that the box for "enable DHCP" is enabled. That basically means that the box will assign IP addresses to the cameras rather than you having to manual do it. As long as you can get access to plug the cameras into the back of the box then there shouldn't be an issue with it being in a tight space as you shouldn't really need to mess about with it once it's installed unless you want to check the playback for any incidents that may have occurred. Hope that's helped, if you need to know anything else then drop us a message. Thanks

I'm using 1 camera and have a power line adapter and POE injector to connect the Camera from my garage power supply to my NVR box which is located in my house... Less than 100m away. Often find the picture freezes on screen for maybe 30seconds ever now and again... Very difficult to determine. Any tips? FYI when it's frozen and I click on the guarding vision app and open camera.. It unfreezes camera on my TV 😂 or when I go into menu on box it unfreezes camera.. Any tips 0please? Much appreciated
I'm wondering if it's something that's built into the box so it doesn't use as much resources to keep the video playing all the time. When it looks as though it's frozen on the screen, have you checked the recorded footage to make sure that it's recorded fine and that the recording hasn't frozen? I currently use Blue Iris and have a PC running our cameras at home and i know that if it's previewing the camera at real time then it absolutely hammers the resources on the PC. I'm just wondering if that is something that's on the NVR box. There may just be a check box in the settings somewhere so it previews in real time. If covid weren't preventing me, i would pop over to my nan's house because she's got exactly the same box installed and i could have a quick look at the settings on there and i could see if hers does the same thing.

@@parvezahmedjalil7310 ahhh ok then, i think it's going to take a bit of trial and error to figure out where the issue is. I would start with the cheapest option first and that would be to try a different ethernet cable. Maybe even bring the camera next to the box and plug in a shorter cable to eliminate if the length of cable is causing an issue. I would then probably do a reset on the camera so it goes back to defaults and try that. If it's still the same then i would do a reset on the NVR box and try again. After that i would do a format on the hard drive and try again. Failing that, i would maybe look at taking the hard drive out and putting it into a PC and running Crystaldiskinfo and just seeing that the hard drive is flagging up as ok.

Hello there On Duty, nice to meet you buddy and thank you for the message. How have you got your stuff set up at the moment? If you've got your DLink plugged into your router and other things plugged into your Dlink and you have a spare port on there, then you should be fine to plug the NVR box into there as it just needs network to it as you will already have it plugged into a wall socket for power.
@@onduty1970 Because the nvr box is powered by the power pack that goes into the wall then all it needs is your switch so it can send data. If you have a POE camera then that would go into one of the POE ports on the back of the nvr so the camera gets power.
Thank you for the nice comment, hopefully it was a useful video for you. We have got a review coming up soon on a Reolink camera but it will be a few weeks away. Have a great day.
Hello Michaela, hope you're well. When you first have a Hikvision camera then there shouldn't be a password on it and the box should pick it up straight away when you connect it. A very good and informative video, I still have two questions. Is the JVC screen your computer or is it just a monitor? and, My NVR will be situated in a tight area so will need to set it up before actually having the unit in place, is this do-able?
Hello there buddy :)
The JVC screen is actually my TV.
Thanks
@@Andyhhhdx Thanks again for that Andy. I currently have a system installed (Dahua) but I hate the software as it's a pig to work with. I currently access the camera view via my Mac and online with my phone as my current NVR is connected to my router. This system was installed by a company so don't really get how it all works, all i know is that my NVR is 'buried' so would not be able to set up in situ so want to set up in the living room where it's more comfy any way Ha.
@@bigbadstig Ahhh i understand buddy :) I've use a Dahua camera myself and i find them to be really good. My setup at home i use a PC and use some software called Blue Iris so i get a little bit more control when it comes to sensitivity settings on the cameras and i can use different brand cameras too. I totally get having it setup somewhere where it's more comfortable. That Hilook box is currently at my Uncles house in France and so far it hasn't had any issues at all with it. That's also setup in his living room so he can easily access it :)
Hi which HDD drive are you using please? Is it the 2.0 or 3.0. Thanks
Hello there buddy. It has a 2tb WD purple hard drive in there. It''s a SATA hard drive. Here is the link so you can see exactly what it is amzn.to/2Zh3ROK (affiliate link)
Andyhhhdx thanks a lot mate
Followed all your steps and it worked perfectly! 👍🏻
I have a few things.. Please could you assist..
@@Andyhhhdx thank you for the reply! Really appreciate it! I have checked recorded footage and the bits in question where the feed is stuck does NOT record! That's my problem.. I have no issues with being frozen if it actually recorded lol 😂
@@Andyhhhdx thank you for the fantastic response! Will certainly try your suggestions! This issue has been from day 1.. Sometimes the issue is non.existent other times its terrible (like right now!)
@@parvezahmedjalil7310 That's the worse when it's an intermittent problem, makes it more difficult to diagnose lol. Wishing you the best man. Try a short ethernet lead and see if that improves things :)
I bought a nvr HILOOK from a private individual and he did not give me his password what should I do
Hello there Salim. You can reset the password but if i remember right it was a bit of messing about to get it to reset. Here is a link to how you can do it - www.hikvision.com/ueditor/net/upload/2017-03-10/51901041-be3c-4112-a147-0d71bd403cde.pdf
The easiest way would be to try and get in touch with the person you bought it from and get them to put the password in and you can reset it from there.
Great Video, and very informative, THANKS. ;-)
thank you for checking it out. I really appreciate it. We should have a few more cctv camera videos coming up in the near future.
I have a 104-B/4P and it is prompting me to enter a password before I can change it. I don't see a default password in the documents. Any idea what it could be??
Hello Giovanni, hope you're well buddy.
try the username as admin, and the password 12345
Hopefully that's the right details
Hi
I have hilook nvr 108H-D
And regular switch dlink DES 1008A
and a router
Now I just want to know how do I connect to router nvr
I'm little bit confused should I connect router to nvr or switch
Hello there On Duty, nice to meet you buddy and thank you for the message.
How have you got your stuff set up at the moment? If you've got your DLink plugged into your router and other things plugged into your Dlink and you have a spare port on there, then you should be fine to plug the NVR box into there as it just needs network to it as you will already have it plugged into a wall socket for power.
@@Andyhhhdx you mean
1st i will connect router to switch
Then 2nd cable I will connect switch to nvr
@@onduty1970 Yes that should be fine.
I have unmanaged switch
Not poe switch
@@onduty1970 Because the nvr box is powered by the power pack that goes into the wall then all it needs is your switch so it can send data. If you have a POE camera then that would go into one of the POE ports on the back of the nvr so the camera gets power.
Very good video.thank you
Thank you for the nice comment, hopefully it was a useful video for you. We have got a review coming up soon on a Reolink camera but it will be a few weeks away.
Have a great day.
Great video, how do you know what is the IP camera activation password please?
Hello Michaela, hope you're well. When you first have a Hikvision camera then there shouldn't be a password on it and the box should pick it up straight away when you connect it. If you do want to put a password on the camera then you can use the SADP tool from Hikvision which you would install onto a PC and connect the camera to your network port on your PC (you will need to plug in power for the camera too..... if it's a POE camera then you will need to use a POE switch to get power to the camera). This tool allows you to change the IP address of the camera and you can set the password. I hope this helps. The tool is available direct from Hikvision here - www.hikvision.com/my/support/tools/destop-tools/sadp-for-windows/
