    "This was the story of the BIONICLE."

  • @Luka1180

    The Makuta was not just some guy with 42 powers (EDIT: 42 not 40, on top of Shadow). He was a mastermind. Probably more intelligent and cunning than any other Makuta. And I am fairly sure the "brother" thing was not Makuta's idea, but something the Great Beings decided. Originally, I believe, the Makuta was going to be the one to take over the robot, but ultimately it became Mata Nui. I believe the fact that both was seen as important was why they got the symbolic brotherhood relation. They also kind of worked together, since the Makuta, or Teridax, looked over Metru Nui, which was Mata Nui's brain, and therefore the Makuta was in fact close to Mata Nui, or figuratively speaking side by side with him.

    • @GameSharks
      @GameSharks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      sure the story presents him as a genius, but in terms of what he is, he's one of many members of an evil house keeping organization. Which also makes it weird that he'd be considered the brother of mata nui in any capacity.

    • @LiveforHM
      @LiveforHM 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Teridax was supposed to take over the robot while Mata Nui would move on to a second robot.
      They were brothers because Teridax and Mata Nui were supposed to reunite the fragments of a planet together. The Unity Duty Destiny symbol foreshadows this.

    • @k-leb4671
      @k-leb4671 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I thought Teridax was just one of the many in the Brotherhood of Makuta who were tasked to create Rahi, and then decided to turn evil because after seeing the League of Six Kingdoms attempt to take over Mata Nui, he decided to try it himself.
      I didn't know he was originally destined to control the robot or reunite the fragments of a planet.

    From a design perspective, this game was also phenomenal. I saw a review that went in depth about how everything is designed to draw you into the world, and it really brought to light how much of a masterpiece it is.

    You know, as a kid I played mnog I and II in order to decipher the Bionicle alphabet. Being dutch and not speaking english very well, this was a huge challenge! But I learned so much english from it. Can't remember wether it took me weaks or months, but I finally did it. By then they already started with the Metru Nui line of toys, something I never got into since Bionicle for me was more about the lore than the toys, even though I had quite alot of them. I proudly send a mail to the company via the official website about having translated the alphabet. Up until then I had not been able to find any translations anywhere, so I really felt like I accomplished something. I never got an answer, but a week later they made a newspost on the official website revealing the Bionicle alphabet. I felt quite cheated, and from then I started growing out of the whole franchise. Still, I find it both fascinating and frightening how much those two online games have influenced my youth. I fondly look back at my time exploring Mata Nui, finding signs to decipher.

      I remember imitating the game of Kohli ball in my backyard as a kid, but my sisters and I were getting tired of trying to use our elbows and knees all the time so we started using sticks, and then like a week later they updated The lore and started using sticks in the actual Kohli game XD
      We freaked out a little bit and then were like " holy crap, were they watching us with satellites? Or reading our minds?" XD looking back it's funny what we would think as little kids

    I remember when this first came out. I was like 4-5 years old and my dad allowed me to use his work computer for 1 hour a week, every thursday, to play this game. He would translate the english for me so I could solve the puzzles and understand the dialogue and we eventually played through the whole game. Such fond memories...

    Why the hell does this review get so much fewer views than the other BIONICLE game reviews you've done? This is supposed to be the definitive BIONICLE game, not those other ones. Makes me grieve.

    Nostalgia af, I never got very far in this game, I got hung up on translating all the signs. This sounds like a parallel story to the first novel they did, I think it started with Tahu on the beach too tbh

    It's kinda funny how nowadays no one has ever lived up to projects like Bionicle, having a product with a world you can explore somewhere else. Something like that. Hell, ususally when they do, it's for a video game or something like that.
    Neo Shifters was better though

    I loved this game as a kid! This is probably why I could never get into anything past G1. This game and the mysterious nature of the G1 advertising was so effective, that the more generic newer ones didn't hold up. I still remember the moment I flipped the page on my LEGO catalog that revealed the Toa Nuva and I was not impressed. As a kid, I was nostalgic for the previous year.
    Back then, I wasn't privileged enough to buy whatever I pleased, though my dear mom did get me Gali, and months, maybe even years later, I came across a shelf full of Pohatu's. Poor little fella. So I only have the two. I did order one of the Tohunga from ebay a few years ago, despite the price...
    My suitmate actually has the entire G1 toas in his room. I'm jealous...

    6:02 It's not proper speed. It's way too fast. Because the speed of computers improved considerably over 16 years.(Moore's law and all) And because game speed(for MNOG) is dependent on framerate.(Which is still a bad practice in the industry eg.: Dark Souls Remastered)
    (You can also see this in Le-Koro after you escape the Nui-Rama hive. The character animations are playing way too fast.)

    If I'm remembering right, the color scheme they gave Takua in MNOG was based on the default color scheme in Tales of the Tohunga - when you first enter the character customization screen, he has the blue mask, red arms, and yellow feet.

    • @fredjones2170
      @fredjones2170 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Browning Actually, it was yellow arms and red feet, but I guess they reversed them for MNOG. It looks a lot better in MNOG, I think

  • @sirexilon49
    @sirexilon49 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    6:59 Lego didn't make MNOG but whatever. Also they had to put faith in Bionicle, As LEGO almost wen't bankrupt around 2002-2003
    (and Bionicle practically saved them) Also they planned out the story already.(LEGO does things way in advance)

    As one of the other comments points out, you really shouldn't call the little guys Tohunga. That term was one of the biggest parts of the lawsuit against Lego by the Maoi people, as the term has significant cultural meaning, and shouldn't have been used to describe little villagers. Hence, you should use the retroactively given name "Matoran"

    Makuta Teridax is the best fictional villain of all time.

    • @Bysthedragon
      @Bysthedragon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Makuta Teridax is still my all time favorite villain, he's literally the Bionicle universe version of Satan and an allegory for one of the writer's on experience fighting against cancer which I think is pretty awesome (not that he had cancer but that he won his fight with it and used it as inspiration for an epic story.)
      I remember when I was a kid and how I was freaking out when I got the bionicle comic where I thought "This was it, the end of Bionicle, after all the Toa and Matoran have fought and sacrificed for they finally revived Mata nui and...wait...what's going on with the stars..." And then suddenly the Mask of Shadows was painted across the sky as he revealed he's won! Makuta Teridax won and became God! I could not believe it!

    I did play this game on the website, but can't get pass the flute part because when I activate the parterns of the song, it caused the cutscene to play at the beginning repeatly, non-stop. Plus I wish that you can save your progress so you don't have to repeat playing the same event over and over again. One last thing, don't read the book of chronicles, because it will cause the game to loop the loading screen. Anyway, nice video😊.
