It's hard to fully comprehend the impact the Beastie Boys have had on popular music. In collaborations with Rick Rubin and The Dust Brothers, the Beastie Boys have birthed some of the most infectious and fun beats of the last 25 years. From the early 2000s, on a recommendation from band-mate Mike D, Adam Horovitz (Adrock) started making beats in Reason and instantly ditched his venerable SP1200. Reason has been at the heart of their beat laboratory ever since.
I like this guy, usually most things he says I'm down with!!
The King AdRock that is my name and I know the flyest spot where they got champagne
We rode for six hours the we hit the spot
The beat was a bumping and the girlies was hot
Checcc chec chec chec. Checcciddddouuttt
I found out what sample he uses. He used The Stooges - Dirt.
He's so handsome and talented, i get tingles ;)
@saynotogmailforyoutu have you seen the deleted scenes? It's all old stories from Adam and the Beastie Boys. There's tons of cool stuff in there and no mention of Reason if you're not into that. We wanted to share both... cool stories, and also how Adam uses Reason since that's what our users are interested in also.
I got a new laptop just for Reason 7. Line 6 UX1 and my guitar. Just easy and awesome. Been a Reason user since 2.5 It truly is all in the box. Thanks Propellerhead.
I wonder if he still has that SP, It will probably be worth loads in the future if it belonged to ICE T and Adrock!
no doubt 100%
he still does have the sp, watch the webcam interview he did recently
@Cambmusic1 Wow that's awesome! Thanks for posting the follow up and happy music making! Maybe I'll be visiting your studio soon for an artist feature interview! :) -ryan
i think he should pick the sp again
I think he knows better than you. He started to make music because it was exciting for him, you just get tired of doing things the same way. He eventually will go back to the SP and then back to Reason again because you just have more options to explode your ideas into it. Easy.
Its an ad
@@frankjamesbonarrigo7162he made the beats on the 2004 album using reason
Thanks for this great interview!
He was the listening to the demo tapes For Rick Rubin. He heard LL Cool J and said, hey, this is cool Rick. Check this out boom discovered.
Yauch was the master at sampling. Even Adrock would tell you that.
it's the vocal track from MGMT's flash delirium, maybe ad rock did a remix or something.
would like to hear that!
@onfzd Good eyes! It was indeed an MS20. I actually moved that a little so it would appear more in the background. Glad it was noticed. :) /ryan
What a legend ! lol
@NEAPULA he's not dead. Nice video, Reason is great but I still record my hardware samplers into it for the sound.
@Dougal70 this is not just any ad, it's an ad-ROCK!
A reason plug. I want to hear a real interview.
@saynotogmailforyoutu lol! Okay well check out the deleted scenes. The links in the description on this page or at the end of the video. Thanks for the laugh at the end of your comment!
Damn, to think not long after this interview, Yauch will have passed away. RIP MCA and long live the Beastie Boys!
@TR0jAX its not about the machine its about the user.....doesnt matter if its an sp 1200, mpc 60, s950, logic, fruity loops or whatever. its about the art man. and ad rock has been using the sp since the late 80s early 90s im sure he'd like to use a different bit of kit after all that time :)
Ad Rock is a genius.
October 31st that is my date of birth. I got to the party you know what I did, the smurf.
Ad Rock is the shit.
@fzerostrike
It's a song called Flash Delirium by MGMT
He still looks like hes 12.
im just starting to mess around with reason because of this interview too hahah.
4:00 needs to be meme'd
Actual Chopping steps on the SP......1.sample loop, copy it to all pads. 2. save. 3. delete all pads except for one. 4. chop first sound, usually a kick. 5.permenately truncate. 6. load loop to next pad. 7. chop next sound. 8. permenately truncate.....keep loading and chopping until you have all your drums or sounds chopped. So ya, ReCycle is a lil faster
ableton is faster than both
"welcome to the internet" i want that on my homepage!
The King Ad Rock, that is his name, and he knows the flyest spot where to get the champaign.
Silence guys, the King (Ad-Rock) is on the mic.

Record & fact it takes VST changes the game.
Happy b-day

Very Sick!!! :)
WHATS THE SONG AT 5:12? I need it
sounds like a remix of Flash Delirium by MGMT!
Swept away by the beats :P
ad rock rules!!!!!!!!!!!
2:59 LOL Riiiiight
yo yo yo , this is cool, but like..where was this on...tv? or what
Not the best Reason video, but Beasties Boys are still Ill!
He does not use a Mac.
Does he use Dell?
+Mira Malhotra That is a Mac. You can clearly see the MacBook logo at 3:52
It looks like a macbook.
It doesn't matter. The brand name on your tools do not matter. How you use those tools are what matters.
Whats the name of the song that starts at 1:39 ?
Korg MS-20 in the background. ♥
I bought reason because of this interview like last year. Haven't looked back since
you're right, my bad, honestly.
BBS and LLCJ hand in hand
It always depresses me, but then also doesn't surprise me, when I read racist screeds under TH-cam videos. How about we just watch Adam talk about music for a few minutes? Sounds infinitely more fun and/or interesting to me. Hip-hop/rap is for everyone, regardless of race, and the Beastie Boys helped to drive that point home. Weren't a whole lot of white folks in the rap game when they came on the scene, and there still really aren't now. They're the definition of pioneers.
Owned a copy of “Cooky Puss” one of the Beasties first recordings
well what have you done? upload something to your channel and we will see if your any better
@The530aftescho "Hold It Now, Hit It" off License to Ill. And its... doin' the do
3:50 is my jam
You cant tell me he hasent tried an akai mpc or something not knocking reason i mean recycles kool but its better to have all that in one system reason 7 and 8 don't count cause
Chopping samples in recycle is still better than reason 7 or eight
why bleep the swears? honestly, man, gimme a break ....
Oh alrighty then. Good man.
haha. awesome vid....
i think reason/record must've been created by aliens because it's so fricken complex!
I could spend the rest of my life just learning how to use all the bits... head is spinning....
i'm still trying to get used to using record on top of reason instead of just using reason.
Can't have enough monitors either ;-)
LOL...he's just messin around and comes up with a nice little jam.
"Sorry."
What's in the BOOOX?
Is this an ad?
it is.
Yep
already addressed that and apologized
He is? Who Ad-Rock?
FLASH DELERIUM!!!!!
It was the other Adam that died of Cancer. The Beastie Boys had 2 Adams.
The Metalnaut
Yea, Yauch and Horovitz!!!
You're so wrong poopyscoopy. So. Wrong.
Beastie Boys = Legends
yeah he uses reason....
@The530aftescho hold it, now hit it.
Created this with Reason Essentials. soundcloud.com/max200g/lyinass
What else would I get from the full version?
RIP A great man , in fact, is gone
STEVE RED .STEVE RED he's not dead, the other Adam is
Yeah but Reason will never sound anywhere near as dope as an SP1200. as far as the tedious copying and pasting and cutting of samples on the SP1200, the ENSONIQ samplers killed it back in the day. When you loaded or recorded a sample, every copy was a ghost copy of that original sample, and no matter how many copies you made, you still had just that one original sample in the memory. You could copy a breakbeat, kick on one key, snare on another, reverse snare on yet another key, hihats, etc. and none of those copies used additional RAM.
😟 💚
Sorry but there is nothing like real hardware. The age of the laptop as a full production tool is done. I only use a daw to record, but my instruments and sounds come from real gear
4:40
SP 1200
THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE
RECORD is sssssSSSSSSICK!
3:54 I FEEL YAA
So 2:25 is when the Beasties went shit
This White Guy produced alot of shit that you Didnt know....
got paid for what?
gross dust on the faders
commercial
Check out the New EP I just released. Beastie Boys / Beach Boys Mashup. @ alienswithhalos.bandcamp.com/album/the-beachie-boys
They rapped weren't necessarily into hip-hop culture.
SuperTruthful expand on your statement please.
Oh billshit... they didn't make anything on reason. Everyone knows reason sux... I know 4 a fact Paul's boutique was made on an emax.
@2:16 look at this guy. Swallowing and lying. For a few bucks, of which he had tens of millions. What a guy.
I bought Reason in 2005, and have never looked back. Also. I don't know that he's lying
Rap didn't start out being multi-cultural...not being racist...being factual.
Lol recycle... Reason is cool but recycle is obsolete and not fun to use
