    One of my favorite memories playing graveyard hate was when I was playing a 4-player commander game where I was playing Mishra, Eminent One while one of my opponents was playing Meren of Clan nel toth. I had a nautilloid ship in my opening hand and after it and Mishra were on the field I kept using Mishra’s ability to copy the ship and exile the grave of the meren player. He was locked out of the game.

    Lion Sash is one of those cards that plays WAY better than it reads. And it still reads pretty good.
    I chucked it in my Atraxa poison deck as it ticked all the boxes a permanent should; low cmc, multiple effects, end of turn mana sink, synergy with and without my commander in play. Everytime it has hit the table it has gotten huge and was only removed when a player knew it was actually going to kill them, which is usually too late! Bought a couple more because it played so well and have chucked them in decks that have absolutely no synergy with my commander or the deck they are in, and they still created havoc 👍
    Hot take, but Lion Sash should be in every deck running white. But you have to play it to see what i mean 🍻

    In this age of Scavenging Grounds, how does anyone not have room for even that much graveyard hate?
    ... Actually, as a graveyard abuser, nevermind all that.

    I absolutely adore Unite the Coalition in my Jared Carthalion deck. The fact that it can ALSO be graveyard hate in addition to all the other utilities just makes it great!

    Sometimes the I don't play graveyard hate because the options are much less impactful to what my deck is doing and I'd rather not force it in there. Other times, maybe I utilize other people's graveyards for my creature's P/T or for Rise of the Dark Realms. But you make a great case for using it, especially with modality where it can fit naturally into the deck.
    Another problem is that you can functionally eliminate a player who uses a graveyard deck. So things that exile an entire graveyard against those players just make for unfun games. Targeting the most important pieces is good in those situations, but just throwing down a Bojuka bog and taking an opponents graveyard out can crush their game plan and leave them in the dust. So I've stopped using the bog as much, because it doesn't further my game plan and it just says screw you to target player. If I'm playing casual, this is not cool

    Scavenger Grounds can be put in any deck, so it really should be an auto include.

  • @AgentBlackman
    @AgentBlackman 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Theres an interesting discussion to be had here because while I may throw Bojuka Bog and Dauthi Voidwalker into my deck I find the majority of the time I never end up using these cards for graveyard hate purposes which leads me to believe that I could swap them out for something better (Obviously not swapping out Dauthi that card is NUTS) but what really is the tradeoff? One less tap land in my 99 card mono-black deck that barely has any to begin with just so I could play something that has less utility than the grave hate Bojuka Bog provides?
    Not to mention that I could tutor it up with an Expedition Map if necessary and having more than just Cabal Coffers/Thespians Stage as targets never hurt anyone :) Besides, when you throw down that grave hate piece right when you need it even though it may not happen as often as you like, the feeling you get makes it all worth it :)

    I always try to slot in anywhere from 1-3 pieces of graveyard hate per deck, there’s too many things (like you mentioned) that target cards in the bin. Not including any GY Hate, in my opinion, is just making yourself lose more games for no reason.

    I tend to play a lot of budget decks, and graveyard-based strategies tend to perform the best overall. I can see not running graveyard hate if someone only plays against certain metas, but in the long run, having some form of graveyard hate is always preferable. I especially tend to run it in black, since it's one of the color's best attributes, even though that seems counter-intuitive. I like Mari the Killing Quill and Ravenloft Adventurer, since they provide a body and extra advantage.

  • @davidreeves4165

    This is why i don't use my graveyard as a 2nd hand and my slimefoot and squee deck runs a TON of interaction to get rid of graveyard hate before i do anything. I also won't put anything in the yard until I'm immediately using it. If you're playing meren or kroxa and kuronous you can get shut down sooo easily though... almost not worth playing them anymore

    In my own graveyard decks, I'm starting to get apprehensive about including graveyard hate because of the prevalence of Stolen Strategy style decks. It is the most devastating Uno Reverse when my own graveyard hate is used against me.

    • @thetrinketmage
      @thetrinketmage  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    • @Quroe_
      @Quroe_ 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thetrinketmage Not often, but it's the same prevalence that Bojuka Bog hoses somebody else's deck; it feels like it gets mine at the same rate. But my brain might just be recalling pain more because of human nature.

    Bojuka Bog is also great with bounce lands. I didn't used to run much at all, just because nobody at the store I played at ran much graveyard interaction (though I did randomly pick someone once for Bojuka Bog and ended up really hurting his Seasons Past). When I had started playing with others who did more graveyard shenanigans, I did start throwing Scavenger Grounds into most my decks. Also, will say that I do run Leyline of the Void (and similar) in Umbris because I want as much of their stuff in exile as possible

    As a strongly black leaning player (tho not always graveyard focused) it feels like betraying my values to do graveyard hate... shooting in my own ranks... I wouldn't like to be shut down by something like that either so I'd rather not be gaining advantage by it (:
