Pyaasa is a fantastic film, and like Citizen Kane, is often listed as one of the greatest Hindi films of all time. It had three legends at the height of their powers - Guru Dutt as actor/director, S. D. Burman as music director and Sahir Ludhianvi as lyricist. Definitely a must watch!
Without rafi sahab no one to give voice to Sahir's gems or Guru Dutt's character. And rare for SD Burman to have the same male voice for every song in the movie. But who else was going to do justice to the story, or sing in a clear melodious voice with so little instrumental backup?
Guys, Guru Dutt is a matter of Study. Watch & enjoy 1. Pyasa 2. Sahib, Bibi Aur Ghulam 3.. Kagaz Ke Fool You will learn lots of about Guru Dutt. Thanks

honestly most girls were from prostitued background, and they were considered as ''bad women''...yes the writers were highly educated but the actors often not....
Mohd Rafi Saheb the best singer of all time and the most humble human being. An exceptionally excellent, beautiful and marvelously fabulous song superbly performed by the one and only Mohd Rafi Saheb.
In this song the first shot that he is standing at the door signifies crucifix of Jesus. That's the same thing happening with him symnoLically over here I am so happy that finally u saw Gurudutt . He is a legendary director. You should review this movie and Kagaz ke Phool. This movie Pyasa is in top 100 movies of all time in the world by Times magazine
Glad to see you reacting to Guru Dutt at last.. He was a genius who was fortunately or unfortunately way ahead of his time. Would like you to watch some of his movies like Pyaasa, Saheb Biwi aur Ghulam, Kagaz ke Phool, etc.
Just one singer who could do this- Mohammad Rafi. The greatest singer. That absolute range at the last. Do you think this song is a piece of cake to sing. This is only for Rafi sahab. No other could have done justice to it
Md Rafi......Oh! What a singer. He can sing a song like this one and can followup with a completely funfilled peppy song and then go on with a devotional song with equal finese and beautifully. Greatest indian playback singer in hindi, punjabi and host of other north indian languages (there was Ghantasala who was Rafi's contemporary and equally great in Telugu and Tamil songs)... When Ghantasala passed away, Md Rafi sang good number of Telugu songs as well to fill his void.
Guru Dutt is a legend as big as a Satyajit Ray, back in the day. Pyaasa is one the best piece of cinema ever made in India, gets me every time😭. Edit-"The third man" is also a masterpiece, starring Orson Welles.
OMG.... I have been wanting to see this for so loooong. When I met you guys at Delhi Airport, I had asked you to see Pyasa and Guru Dutt's work.... so happy finally you atleast have seen the iconic song now. Pyasa is a MUST see
Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool have been included among the greatest films of all time. Pyaasa by Time magazine's "All-TIME" 100 best movies list. Both are directed by him and he is also lead in both of them you should start with them
The pain and despair through most of this song rightly portrayed by Guru Dutt's expressions and Rafi Sahab's voice. The burst of anger at the end is the perfect ending to this expression of the sad reality of the world. Good job guys. You'll love more of Guru Dutt for sure. Kagaz ke phool is another masterpiece that comes to mind.
Fun fact: In the movie, the people are gathered in remembrance of Guru Dutt(the actor in the song) as they thought he was dead. But then he returns and strikes a pose similar to Jesus at 03:13. This is referencing the story that Jesus came back from the dead 3 days after. Such amazing direction and cinematography!!!
"Waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam" (Kagaz ke phool) It is one of my all time favorite picturing of a song. But I don't know if you will understand the video without watching the film. It's basically a song where two people are in love and want to be with each other but the conditioning of the society and their circumstances keeps them apart. It is portrayed SO BEAUTIFULLY.
Guys, Guru Dutt was a legendary director! React to 'Bichade sabhi bari bari' from his movie Kagaz Ke Phool. The cinematography is fantastic! The lyrics are awesome telling about the bitter reality of glamour world!
Pyaasa...your soul will be stirred definitely ... will definitely have tears for reasons other than sadness...it's misery of the world shown in such artistic excellence... That's Gurudutt for u...👍
I get teary eyed everytime after watching this song. If you really want to appreciate and understand where this song originates from you need to watch this movie. It's a song of resurrection of a person who was rejected continuosly when alive. I was so fascinated by Guru Dutt that I read couple of books about his life and films. Guru Dutt, Sahir Ludhyanvi, SD Burman, Md. Rafi and VK Murthi what an unimaginable combination back in the days. 1940 to 1960 is still considered to be the golden era of bollywood.
I first saw this movie on Doordarshan in Elections of 84 with my parents. I was literally half asleep throughout the movie but my eyes popped open at full 100watts as soon as the music started. Thanks for taking me through the memory lane.
Gurudutt was the best director India ever produced. He was way way ahead of the time. The playback singing was by the voice of a god, the late Mohammad Rafi Sahab. No one compares or comes close to him regarding playback singing. He was one of the best human beings and the greatest playback singer ever to walk on this planet.
Whoever requested this and whoever of your team approved of this deserve Kudos. Guru Dutt is easily one of all-time topmost Producer-Directors of Bollywood. Had always wished that one day you watch his work and this song.
Old will always be gold...no one can replace old singers, old actors and actresses ,old lyricists, music directors etc etc...no technology also can ever change them...
Gurudutt said the same thing ' I do not care what the popular commercial successful cinema wants. I will make movies as I want to make them.' He was way ahead of his time.
This movie was offered to tragedy king Dilip Kumar. It was written for him. But he was taking treatment for pscycological problems. He was suffering from Depression. Dr advised him not to work in tragic films. Hence the Director himself played the main character. Mr Durudatta Padukone is Uncle of India's Badminton Master Prakash Padukone who is now known as father of Actress Deppika Padukone.
And you stumbled upon another legend 👍 this channel has a great audience in terms of music i must say they enjoy songs like rockstar from coke studio and here this song from Rafi sahab equally❤️👍
This is one of my favourite movies of all time. It's a cult classic and is based off of the life of Sahir Ludhianvi (the writer of this song) and his failed relationship with a poetess, Amrita Pritam. Just beautifully shot and I love it when old stuff can be watched, listened to or read and depicts life strikingly similar to current social scenarios.
Finally, finally, you are coming to the classics and the great Guru Dutt. Thank you! There are a handful of Guru Dutt movies, each of them is a classic
I ended up watching the film, and My God... What have i ending up seeing!!!!😍😍First of all, I came to know by this Sure MASTERPIECE why that era of bollywood is known as the Golden Era of Indian Cinema! Wow! You actually reached Guru Dutt, SD Burman and Sahir! Wow! BTW The movie's title 'Pyasa' means 'thirsty' and the title of the song 'Ye duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai' means 'even if one wins this world, so what?' Pyaasa (thirsty) and Kagaz ke Phool (paper flowers) are Guru Dutt classics as actor-director.
Guru Dutt was known for his experiments with lighting, specially while shooting for songs .. movie itself is a must watch. Another one is Kagaj ke Phool. I personally love the movie Saheb, Bibi aur Gulam. This is my first ever comment on You Tube BTW. Couldn't resist.
I'm glad you finally got here. This a poignant film noir is a piece of art .. you should listen to "Jinhe naaz hai hind par" from the same legendary Pyaasa. Guru Dutt is for the ages. He is also the lead actor you see on this song.
In this movie Rafi sahab sang for Guru Dutt and Jonny walker both.. What a graph in his voice.. Both songs were 100% committed towards the portrayed actor nature
Guru Dutt - one of the best directors and storytellers ever! The music and lyrics of his movies were not only heartbreakingly beautiful but also actually moved the story forward in those movies. The angst and grief in this song is so beautifully expressed by Sahir Ludhianvi and Guru Dutt as the protagonist is mind blowing but what's fantastic is that both as director and actor he is awesome . The subbing by Asad was just so on point! Of course the voice of Mohammed Rafi is just gold.
Now, that's my favourite Indian film, favourite Indian actor/director of all time. Vasant Kumar Shivshankar Padukone = Gurudutt A genius centuries ahead of his time. Watch - Pyaasa, Kaagaz ke phool, Sahib Bibi aur Gulam, Chaudhavin ka chand.
This scene gurudutt the actor and director is supposed to be a famous poet writer whose work is stolen and he is ? Killed ... and this is supposed to be his own memorial meet
Beautifully subbed Asad! The lady in black shawl is Waheeda Rehman the mother in Rang de basanti. And Guru Dutt makes B/W so beautiful and Rick if you watch his movies specially Kaagaz ke Phool he likes to play with shadows too. Even shadows are the characters ❤️. Watch them for yourself I wouldn't want them reviewed because I am so in love with these movies every aspect of them. Also with so less in hand they created something for generations. And concept is true for every generation.
How the hell are you doing it? How the hell are you going to that subconscious level of the very crafting of an urban Indian? How are you going to such depths? You are finding the most defining gems. You are brilliant at what you do. I congratulate you.
The hero is a poet, who never got recognized for his work. The rich lady in the clip was his girlfriend who ditched him to mary a rich publisher ( the guy on the stage). He found true love from a prostitute ( the lady crying over the shoulder of her freind). One day the poet gives his jacket to a beggar, the beggar got run over by a train. Everybody thought the poet died and he becomes an overnight celebrity. The clip is about the publisher honoring the dead poet and unveiling his statue. But the poet returns from the dead.
If there is one thing I've been shouting myself hoarse pushing it to you - it has been Pyaasa songs( and Memories in March and The Namesake too). Pick any song from Pyaasa and you have a masterpiece - and I kid you not. This song, Jaane woh kaise log thay, Jaane kya tunay kahi, Hum aapki aankhon mein - even sar jo tera chakraaye, all of them gems. It gladdens my heart so to see you enjoy our treasures.
Good morning guys..have my coffee😍...omg...you are reacting my favorite song from favorite movie of legendary actor director shree guru dutt💖💖💖🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Sahir Ludhianvi sahab some other great songs like: Kya miliye aise logon se(Izzat), Sansar se bhaage phirte ho, Man re tu kahe na dhir dhare (Chitralekha), Kiska rasta dekhe(Joshila), Chalo ek baar phirse ajnabi ban jaye hum dono(Gumraah), tora man darpan kahlaye(Kaajal), kabhi khudpe kabhi halat pe rona aaya(Hum Dono), Milti hai zindagi me mohabbat kabhi kabhi(Aankhen), and more.......
This is in my top 5 Best Films ever made in the history of films. The way he deals with the issues of the world back then (and today even more), I don't think there's been any film that goes into that depth. And Guru Dutt is in my top 5 Directors
Guru Dutt is considered a master craftsman, filmmaker because of three 'all time classics' - PYAASA (thirsty), KAAGAZ KE PHOOL (flowers of paper) and SAHIB BIBI AUR GHULAM (master, mistress and the serf). Indian, espcially Hindi cinema is incomplete without these three classics.... a MUST WATCH for all cinema lovers
This is one of the very few extremely revolutionary songs of bollywood that brings out the harsh realities of this world!!!! The bitter nature of human relations and how people don't think twice before giving up on their own kith and kin, just for fame and money, is the essence of this movie and this song!!! This song is the whole movie summarized in these beautiful lyrics.
Guru Dutt has made many funny and light movies as well. In fact the movie that you showed has to be the most serious movie he made. I never brought myself to watch "Citizen Kane" but now I will.
Watch the song "Waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam" starring Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rahman. Not only is the song beautiful, but the way the scene was shot is breath-taking.
Definitely sir, This song will relate to this world till it is in existence, kudos to Guru Dutt sahab, rafi sahab, sahir sahab and entire team for this evergreen masterpiece
The protagonist is a poet who gets recognition only after he is presumed dead. This song captures his frustration and anger at the society which rejected him earlier but was now paying rich tribute to him, presuming he was dead. He looms large in the doorway, challenging the hypocrites and telling them he doesn't care for their accolades. The audience is stunned to see him alive and each character associated with him displays emotions depending on the nature of their association with him...some guilty, some very happy, some angry, some frustrated... Cinematographer V K Murthy brilliantly.captures the whole scene...
Heard it for the first time and Sahir Ludhyanwi sir has given words to thought I'm currently grappling with. Guru Dutt, SD Burman, Sahir Ludhyanwi all are ultra legends in the world of cinema and music.
You've got to watch this movie (Pyasaa), one of the three Bollywood movies to feature in the top 100 Movie of All time World Wide. the other two also belong to this Legend Guru Dutt. The Godfather of Bollywood. This movie was so ahead of its time, It will probably last the next 100 years. So sad that no one remembers Guru Dutt nowadays. I would go on to say that he is the most underrated actor of the world. Important Fact- its also the favorite Bollywood movie of Aamir Khan
Guys, I am so glad that you finally reacted to a Guru Dutt song. He is the foundation and soul of Hindi cinema. Without exploring him, you'll never be able to understand the true essence of Hindi cinema. Please watch Pyassa and Sahib, Bibi aur Gulam. FYI, his pairing with Waheda Rehman is legendary.
Listen guys Guru Dutt (Yes...you pronounced correctly lately) is ‘the pinnacle’ of acting & direction....period. No other words would justify his contributions to the Indian cinema.

Everybody thought the poet died and he becomes an overnight celebrity. The clip is about the publisher honoring the dead poet and unveiling his statue. But the poet returns from the dead.
Wooww.. WHAT A SPOILER!!!
Well Done! And Keep Spoiling! 👍
What a poetry. Muhammad Rafi Saahib s voice. And guru duty Saahib. Awesome👍👍
Guru dutt is the God of Bollywood actually who started a new era in Indian film industry
Plzz react to "o duniya ke rakhwale" by mohd. Rafi.
Guru Dutt has made many funny and light movies as well. In fact the movie that you showed has to be the most serious movie he made. I never brought myself to watch "Citizen Kane" but now I will.
My my favorite her0 guru dutt famous in his 50
Guru dutt is a legend of legends💕💕
Watch the song "Waqt ne kiya kya haseen sitam" starring Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rahman. Not only is the song beautiful, but the way the scene was shot is breath-taking.
So true even these days. Goosebumps. Revolutionary film legend
Great guru dutt sahab
It gives me, concurrently, great pride and devastating sadness to state that this was once my country. Today... well, the less said, the better.
The song gives me Goosebumps as this song is way ahead of its time❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Definitely sir, This song will relate to this world till it is in existence, kudos to Guru Dutt sahab, rafi sahab, sahir sahab and entire team for this evergreen masterpiece
Only Mohammed Rafi Sahab could sing such a difficult song so easily as he was god of music world 👍🙏
Oh my...I'm proud of you OSR❤️. You choose quality stuff. Sahir Ludhiyanavi and Dutt❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Rafi saahab greatest playback singer 🙏🙏
Great film making, great singing, great acting, great poetry. Pinnacle of Indian Cinema. Sad we went downwards from here.
Guru dutt legend of indian cinema.
Very powerful song....by one and only Gutu Dutt 🙏🙏
I loved Korbin's reaction dang! at the end of the song... It was epic🤣
Heard it for the first time and Sahir Ludhyanwi sir has given words to thought I'm currently grappling with. Guru Dutt, SD Burman, Sahir Ludhyanwi all are ultra legends in the world of cinema and music.
Yesssss I love this song!!❤❤
It's one of my favourite sad songs
Guru dutt legend
Mohammed rafi legend
Aur kya kehna picturization ki😍😭
Spinning head stops when thought is induced. That is the power of poetry.
