Yeah, it takes such a long time for me to do it on because I can only do it in the evenings and on the weekends and only if it’s good weather. Then it takes forever to get all the parts together. Hopefully one day I’ll have somewhere indoors to make them though
5:16, The shim on the stem is used to change the stem angle. Depending on how you orientate the spacer and/or the stem on the fork, you can get about 4 different angle options to lock in your fit. I have a few of those stems and enjoy the versatility. It does seem weird the first time you see it though, especially, as you said, being the stock stem on the frame and both branded "Specialized".
Everything is... wicked 😅 No one in the world needs a gravel or super gravel or tutbo gravel bikes! All can be done on a simple mtb hardtail! But people will be people! Greetings from Croatia 😎
You've probably more than doubled the value of that bike with everything you've put on it. Cracking build boys 👍 I upgraded to TRP Spyre calipers (cable disc) and whilst they're an improvement over the standard rubbish that was fitted, they're not a patch on hydro's. Okay for me though.
Thank you, I really appreciate it 🙂 Ah ok, I’ve heard good things about TRP brakes. I really like the look of the Paul Components cable disc callipers but they’re pretty pricey
Thank you!!! I’m glad you like it. I love how different it looks now compared to how it looks like standard. It looks like a completely different bike 😄
How much clearance did you have between tire and frame with those 47c tires? I have what appears to be the same TriCross frame and I am skeptical than anything bigger than 700x40c would give enough clearance.
Awesome gravel bike build! Enjoyed the video and transformation, thanks. Choice components. Can’t beat wide bars. I have Ritchey Venturemax XL 53 cm, and Redshift Kitchen Sink 54 cm handlebars on my bikes. Like your wheel choice and size, and tires too.
Thanks Jason! I really appreciate it 🙂 I just had a look and those bars look really nice. I like the positions on the Redshift bars. Do you use the central position very often?
Compressionless brake housing can help mechanical disc brakes feel better. I worry that squealing of the brakes at the end was contamination from touching the rotors. I'd give them a degreasing and don't forget to bed in those brakes pads. Cheers!
Ah does compressionless brake housing make a big difference? Truth be told we hadn’t broken in the brakes at the time of recording because we didn’t have the right spacers for the callipers 😬 They’re all good now though
@@TheSlowworms yeah, compressionless housing makes a big difference. Obviously not as good as hydraulic but significantly better. I neglected to say it before but this was a great video and I enjoyed it. Keep up the great work.
Thank you! 🙂 Dammit, you spotted them 🤣 Harvey spray painted them because they were pretty deeply scratched and he wanted black forks. That clip was filmed quite a while after the rest of it was filmed
looks great! personally I don't see the need to change the wheels. but to each their own also at 12:52 it looks like you're wrapping the tape too loosely. That amount of "flap" shouldn't be there.
Ah thanks! You don’t see the need to change 700c to 650b in general or don’t see why we did it? Yeah, it looks a bit more spaced out when you see the final shot of the whole bike
@@TheSlowworms a) for this type of budget I don't see the need, and b) just because the old wheels had a rim brake surface. Sure, you probably save some weight. but the whole frame is already heavy enough, and the groupset too. My interpretation is that it's mostly a cosmetic reason on your part.
The main reason he wanted to change them was because he intends to regularly use it on unpaved surfaces and he wanted greater comfort. With the previous tyre change he went to 35c but he wanted even bigger tyres. We worked it out and he couldn’t have gone much bigger than 35c. Certainly not 47c. We thought we may as well try a 650b conversion because it’s pretty common and we heard a few people rave about it. No, he didn’t like the rim brake rims but that’s not the primary reason for him changing them. It is pretty odd having rim brake rims on a disc brake hub. To be honest, they probably aren’t any lighter but I don’t think he’s worried.
There’s always fads in cycling. This is just one of the current ones. I think they’ll be a few more bikes yet before we run out of ideas. Especially with electric bikes suddenly being very popular.
It was a long time between build videos! Glad to see this one. Encore!

Ohhhh I see! That’s really interesting. Im going to have to dig it out now and give it another look. Thanks for letting me know 👍

Not sure what a turbo gravel bike is but it sounds fun.
I love Croatia. Beautiful scenery
Your friend bought the gravel version of Tiagra R4700, which is GRX RX400.
I now feel the need to build a gravel bike!
😂 if you’re like me then you don’t need much persuasion to build any sort of bike
@@TheSlowworms this much is true! Its convincing the wife I need to build another bike that's the problem 😄
😆 Facebook marketplace doesn’t help much either
Beautiful toy , i want one too
Nice, seems like you just got a lot of fun changing the bike. Feel good video 👌

But you also more than doubled the cost of the bike as well, no? Still a good conversion!
Lovely build guys.
Thanks Felix!
🎉 Yay more videos! 😊 sweet looking bike!

Awesome build, beautiful bike!
Thanks! I actually can’t believe how well it turned out 😆
Just turned a great off road bike into a gravel tank
You think it was better before?

do you still need the old components of your bike.. can you pls give it to me
Love this bike
Thank you Casey! 😁
Nice Job! What did the conversion or Upgrades cost? Shopping around a bit for the tiagra shiters etc? Nice mix and match!
Thanks! Ooo good question. I’ll have to check!
Nice bike!
Thanks! 👍

Don't you have hand problems with this wide handlebar? I have heard a lot that your drop handlebars should be same width as your shoulders...

Ah thank you Lyam, I really appreciate it 🙂👍
not sure if u alredy correct it but you place chain wrong way on rear derailleur chain should go behind chlutch
😂 yeah you’re right. Well spotted! We realised when we took it out for its maiden voyage 🙄
Excellent work, looks like a great bike! I'm intrigued though, what's with the black forks that appear briefly near the end?
Thank you! 🙂
Dammit, you spotted them 🤣 Harvey spray painted them because they were pretty deeply scratched and he wanted black forks. That clip was filmed quite a while after the rest of it was filmed
@@TheSlowworms Nice one! I thought it might be something that was shot out of sequence. Looks like he went for a shorter stem too?
🤣🤣 dammit, you figured that out too! Well spotted! Yeah, with the wider bars he wanted to try and make it a bit more agile with a shorter stem

my dream
It turned out way better than we expected it would 😂
12:33 the chain is still too long man....
What makes you think that?
whats up with this sudden fad of gravel bikes? arent there enough types of bikes already?
