A forum I was looking at had some guy describing this fix but without the video or pictures. He said that little metal piece was a resistor to keep the motor from burning out. You could probably cut a penny or something in the shape of that resistor and it would work fine. Very informative video. My neighbors expedition is having the same problem so if I have time I will try your fix.
I answered this myself, us a # 8 - phillips screw 3/4" long. This fix worked really well on my truck. Thansjk for the video/help. Saved me tons of cash.
excellent video, my nissan pathfinder 2012 had an issue with trunk lock, Nissan gave me a quote for $350 but I followed your video and my issue got fixed. Thanks and Best Regards
I did this about a year ago on all 4 doors in my '01 F-250. Worked great for a year but they are now starting to fail again. This time the motor has burned up. I'd recommend just putting new actuators in the first time around. They cost like $10 a piece and it'd be worth not having to do the job again for another 10 years
+Preston Rich Thanks for the reply & for the link. Thats cheap for the whole actuator! Now Im trying to find a set for a 2002 Mazda 6 but have only found some for Fords & I'm not sure if they are compatible. And I have a question.... "My drivers door use to lock & unlock all doors at the same time" (including the car boot) but now none of them work. So, do I only have to repair the drivers door or do I have to do this fix on all of the doors. (So it's either all not working all at once or all working all at once, when it's operating correctly). Thanks again, much appreciated.
Thanks for this great vid Curtis! thought it very well done, for my experience level. not too much, not too little. Greatly Appreciated! Do you know where can I find the motors? everywhere I've looked online, they want to sell me the whole assembly for $100 or more. Thanks
Just replace the actuator assembly (plastic part). I found some one Ebay for around $10-$12. I replace one last night and it took about 30 minutes sine it was my second one. I did this fix and it worked for a little while, but not a permanent fix IMO.
Very cool I have a f350 that I will have to do this too sooner or later. Thanks for the video man! So does the motor loose connection on that metal piece that you put foil around?
Those "Medical Pliars" are called a Hemostat. And cleaning the contact should have been enough without the foil. Use a few dabs of 5 minute epoxy rather than modify it for screws.
Hi I opened my Suzuki sx4 driver side actuator, could not open the motor housing( cap ) although the motor was checked with a dc 12 volt,I thought y would it not work inside when its working all right so bought a new assembly for 30 dollors,...one more door has the same problem, will fix it this way...nice video, but a tripod would do best with ample lighting...

Worked beautifully on my 2001 Ford Escape! Thanks Curtis.

That's great. I'm glad someone is still finding this video helpful.
Glad to hear it fixed your truck mrglock.
And yes it will also work for Excursions.
Worked on my 00 excursion, appreciate the video. Hope it's more permanent than some are saying.

Did you mean replace the motor (& not the whole actuator which costs alot more) ?
No, I did the whole actuators on all my doors for about $10 a piece. Here's a link to the style I used and they're working great.

Sounds like it might be an issue with your switches rather than the actuators. I'm not familiar with Mazda though. Best of luck.
@@luisavelar9883 Crazy, I know, but they are still working great to this day- over 5 yrs later.
This did the trick thanks so much...!! Lincoln Navigator 2003...
Thanks worked like a charm!

You rock bud! Thanks
I drilled the plastic out from the backside there is some guide holes to drill even so you get a nice straight hole!!!
What size self tapping screws did this guy use? He didnt mention that. I will need to buy the same size.

To some it is called a roach clip.
Good post thank ou
