    At 17:42, it appeared to me that Shane hit the rail first on his safety shot, so no ball hit a rail after the cue ball hit the 6 ball. It was very close, but listening to the sound of the cue ball hitting the 6 helps.

    haha all the bitching in the comments about the table... It is a different game people get it through your thick skulls!
    its like you are bitching about cricket not being the same a baseball...
    the smaller snooker style pockets with the larger balls of pool (snooker balls=52.5mm pool balls=57mm)
    It is a hybrid and is meant to be more difficult to make shots. They probably paid Shane a lot of money just to show up there and play I doubt he went there in hopes of winning it all in a game he does not play. Good cue sports players have respect for all the other games even if they don't play them, each has a different skill and mindset one needs to understand in order to play well.

      Maybe he would win some more racks :-)

  • @VanillaSnake21
    @VanillaSnake21 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This should be the standard table for all 8 ball games, not only is it fun to watch them miss easy shots but it also makes the game more strategic. Otherwise it just seems too easy and almost boring to watch them clear table after table in one go in regular 8 ball.

  • @sethhess6655

    Is that table not level? watch the lag closely it looks like shanes ball tracks right.

      Could be the spin he puts on?Also the star tables are a different height than American tables, also the rails are metal not wood, also the cloth is different.

    The game on these tables is so far harder than a classic pool table. He needs practice a lot because chinese players are nice here. Maybe next year he will win cause he is a great player! :)

    Anyone know what cue Shane is using?
    I know he used to use a Cuetec a few years ago, I would assume it's a Cuetec (since he's sponsored), but it has an interesting wrap and he usually plays with the extension on the back.

    • @AngrierGorilla

      Andres64B who are we to question. but ridiculous. banks a rail shot, that could have easily been taken care of later in the rack. . . thinking the exact same thing. just wasn't his day.

    • @mescellaneous
      @mescellaneous 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      rail shots are tough on snooker pockets. you'll see a lot of players bump them out. so here shane believes he won't be able to knock it out. if his banks were on point, it would have been a decent percentage shot, it's just that he missed.
      hard enough making the 4, he's not going to try to go 4 to 5 like in a pool table. he will most certainly get straighter on the 4 compared to normal pool patterns, and it's possible he was going for the 4 after making the bank on the 5.

      He hit his own ball first (so not a foul) but lost his turn as his ball did not follow the opponents ball in.

      You are right Josh, I replayed that shot a couple of times and it was clear the cue ball hit the rail first and neither ball made a rail after the hit. Clrarly a foul.

    Shane's first shot of the game...That's when he realized " No manhole size pockets" LOL...

  • @jeremiahshields7827
    @jeremiahshields7827 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    Shane is missing alot of the shots that he is because he is used to "cheating the pocket" which is done with the majority of shots by the pros. Cheating the pocket allows you to change the angle of cue ball deflection while still hitting center ball, you do this by slicing the pockets in three sections, center,left, and right, now you have more cue ball control without risking the shot due to putting side spin to the cue trying to manipulate for position. These pockets don't have as much room for that, I'm sure with 100 hours on this setup, Shane could do beautiful things. I also feel though that the extra tight pockets make for less shots that are just super dope based on the position they got from it, like effren going 4 rails through other balls, just to get stupid sick position would never happen on this table, on a shot more than an end rails distance between cue and object ball, much less if the object ball isn't close to a pocket. the pros make it look easy by hitting center ball (which is any cue tip top, middle, or bottom of the cue ball) as often as possible and prefer to resort to side spin for the purpose of getting back in line for their run out if they happen to miss calculate a position.

  • @chrisayers8902
    @chrisayers8902 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hard to watch! I can't imagine why SVB would have this difficult of a time...could just be a bad day, but that table does look odd. Also wondering if they banned playing with extensions except for difficult shots because I haven't seen Shane play with out it in a long time. All just speculation and excuses in the end though.

    • @Bremsstrahlung13
      @Bremsstrahlung13 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Exactly. The tables are actually 5' x 9'. The extra 0.5' changes all of the angles SVB and your average pool player would be accustomed to, and with the tighter snooker-style pockets it makes the table play much tougher than a 4.5' x 9' diamond or similar.

    • @cukin65

      those pockets change everything you have to be used to it balls attached to the cushions are difficult to pocket into the corners you have to set up for straight shots

    • @KarnageGaming
      @KarnageGaming 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Marlon pockets are smaller. and i believe ball size is different also. its basically a hybrid between the snooker tables and 8 ball pool balls in an effort to create a harder version of 8 ball.
      its pretty tough. i play on one of these every week and its not perfectly level. let me tell u i run out 6 balls within the rack and im pretty happy with that level of play.
      seeing these guys play on a better table and do worse gives me hope lol

      the table is standard size for American 8 ball (9'x4.5') but it has regulation snooker pockets. The pockets have a 3.5" opening (American tables are 4.5") with rounded knuckles that don't allow a rattled ball to drop. Also, they use much faster cloth and a heated table to make it roll faster. It is an insanely difficult table to play on.

    So I have to state my opinion since everyone else does. I am an avid player of american pool simple because I live in america and other options of cue sports are not readily available. I enjoy watching many different cue sports (including novuss) and I'm not against anything new. I even liked when new games were introduced for american pool even though I agree old men stuck in their ways and shady gambling in a bar with drunks, and tournaments with no professionalism in their attire or attitude, have slowly killed the desire for most to take up the game as well as destroy any chances of making new games for it. With that said I can say for this game I just do not like how the pockets don't allow for any balls down the rail. I understand that amercian pool tables are more receptive accepting those shots and I love watching snooker because for a game where there is 15 red balls to choose from you can get away with balls on the rail more often and still win the rack but in pool sports placed on this table if even on ball is on the rail you can't run the rack or even have a chance to make the shot and gain position. Even Yu Ting in the beginning of the match couldn't finish the 8 ball due to this reason. I don't prefer watching something where you are literally punished for the roll of the table to that degree. otherwise I believe the game is extremely challenging and demands more focus, accuracy, and shot control. Good match and I hope to see Shane win next year!!! He travels the world to be better at all cue sports not just the best pool player.

    Why is everyone complaining about the table? if the table is bigger with pockets that force you to shoot straight and not depend on lucky ball drops, then that just means you gotta up your game as a player or simply not play such games at all.
    This is a different game and its not like shane never played it in his life. He is simply not as good at it as in playing american 8 ball, stop being so butthurt.

      not only that by what i have read these are a weird size also like 5' by 9' instead of the normal 4.5' by 9' which throws off angles dependent on diamonds

  • @duanebruce1539
    @duanebruce1539 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Shane shot his 7 ball down the rail at warp speed while his 8 ball next shot was a hanger. Rail shots with snooker pockets need to be slower. Was he paid to throw the match? Made no sense at all.

      Oh it was the 7 .......i thought 5 or 3 hahahahaha and your right i commented on that too not sure if he was throwing the game . But at the least he was tight and frustrated which is when i think most players tend to go for too much maybe trying to loosen up .

    Shane is picking terrible patterns for this style of table and playing too many safeties. Watch - he tries to bank a ball when he’s down 7-3 but he has a few other options. His opponent isn’t Bette than him he’s just playing smarter. He runs the easiest shots as far as he can then plays safe. Shane can’t run the rest of the rack so his opponent gets up and runs 3 balls. When his opponent misses he misses gently. The next time he gets up his balls are close to the pockets. Shane misses and he fires the ball at the pocket so the ball isn’t close when/if he gets back to the table. Make no mistake, his opponent is a great player, but he doesn’t seem to be better than Shane.

    These are some of the ways that the game is rigged.IMHO: The Star tables are a disgrace. Shame is upon those who conceived & created them, shame is upon anyone that promotes them for international pool. Those from the west that play on them are fools. Also Cyclops balls should be avoided. I played a lot of pool 55 years ago and my impression is that the game "has gone to the dogs." TV changed the game radically what was once "dirty pool" is now the norm.Pool as it is played now-a-days is played for the benefit of the spectators and woe are those like myself who played pool before TV all but ruined pool the game which is, by far, the most fascinatingly difficult of all games.
    Putting it plain and simple -- pool is hitting balls into pockets it is not hide and seek (hooks.) it is not croquet (blocking pockets) it is not marbles (ball in hand anywhere.) It is not failing to hit a rail on a kick shot, it is not 3 fouls loses.The game has been over simplified for dolts -- making ten balls without missing a shot and calling that a complete game seems silly when real pool players are making 400 balls and more without missing a shot.
    R.I.P
    American pool games.

      ok but why hate on the tables and the balls, if its not the same game? might as well bring snooker into this. its not chinese 8-balls fault american pool is dying, its all shady events/hosts that really killed the game.
