He was a KEY staple in rock n roll with that little band..Led Zeppelin ;-) Not to mention he was already established and well respected in the music business in the mid 60s as a session player! And he's known to be very confident and personable and good dude. That's hard to find. Nobody likes an A-hole in any business lol.

I think Chris Robinson is one of the greatest rock singers ever.
He over-does it sometimes but when he keeps his soulful singing to a minimum it comes out as a beautiful drawl with a working class sound in his voice.
His singing combined with his brother's and Mark Ford's style on guitars was as good as it gets to me.

    • @stevenally8015
      @stevenally8015 4 ปีที่แล้ว

The biggest problem with Chris Robinson is he sings 'flat' live a lot of the time and can't hit the top notes on BC records.

@@stricknine8623 That's a good clip. I love the Black Crowes and have since they started. Chris Robinson was a great frontman, even if he copied Mick Jagger, but his live singing was often the only weak link in what was a fantastic live band, particularly during the 'Marc Ford era'. He really began to annoy me when he started doing this 'Otis Redding-style' singing to disguise not hitting the notes IMHO. I live in Australia and the Crowes only toured once, unfortunately, when they were in their prime and they were great and LOUD! I did see the Chris Robinson Brotherhood in a small club here a few years back and I walked out - they were boring and Chris was really arrogant, not letting people (me included) photograph the gig. I was quite disappointed.

There is never been anyone quite like James Patrick. But Rich, as a guitarist the same age, it’s been such a pleasure to watch your development from album one to today, as you went from the greatest rhythm guitarist of the 90’s to one of the best lead guitarists of today, when it comes to playing from the heart. Very much enjoyed meeting you, and your allowing us to take pics. Thank you Rich, knowing it is your guitar music, always allows me to attend live, and never be disappointed, whether it’s the Rich Robinson Band, or Magpie Salute, or the Black Crowe’s, just knowing you always keep the faith. I’m so proud of your development and accomplishments.

I believe this is at Montana Studio on 11th Avenue in NYC.
I had the pleasure of hearing a bunch of their rehearsals (from a balcony 2 blocks away!)
Saw Page/Crows at Roseland Ballroom in NYC 10/13/99
General admission venue. So when the doors opened about 2 hours before the show, I went strait up to the stage.
Watched Jimmy from about 15 feet away for Celebration Day, Custard Pie, Sick Again, No Speak No Slave, What Is and What Should Never Be, Wiser Time, Shake Your Moneymaker, Ten Years Gone, In My Time of Dying.
Then I HAD to go pee! ! So I lost my spot (of course).
They had been rehearsing at Montana Studios which was two blocks from my apartment in NYC.
For a week or two before the show, I could hear their rehearsals from my balcony.
I lived on the 34th floor at the time and the sound traveled up! If you walked by the studio on the street, you wouldn’t hear it.

When I was only 16 I remember sitting in the bleachers of my high school football stadium, skipping class, playing my guitar with friends. I could play the intro, all the chords and I knew all the words to Stairway to Heaven. I lived and breathed music. I went to college as a music major too on classical guitar.

Christopher William I think this one was on Rich. Gorman talks about it in his book. He said Chris seemed surprised that Page cancelled the rest of the tour when Angelus told the brothers while all the color drained from Rich’s face.
I always wondered why The Crowes weren’t way bigger than they actually became. They had one of the best frontmen with one of the best rock voices ever, wrote good songs and were a band that would rip the roof off wherever they were playing. His book explained a lot of why they weren’t more successful. Seemed like a lot of the time, Chris and Rich were so busy fighting, they allowed opportunity after opportunity to pass them by.

Marks Video Channel Page wanted to work on their next album with them in some capacity, either through songwriting or producing it or something. Rich told him “no” without discussing it with the rest of the band.

Art Howard so you are in a band with 2 guitarists, covering a song that is performed by one guitarist who has adapted the arrangement for a single guitar live. Do you play the song as recorded and potentially duplicate what Jimmy is playing, or watch him play, and work out your part based on that? Both Audley and Rich would be watching Jimmy, in awe of him too. Amazing footage.
