    At the end of the day we need to stop making excuses for why someone does or doesn’t like something because it should have no bearing on whether we like or don’t like something.

    I watched the review, and most of what you said made sense to me. I even went back to my copy and made sure it didn’t have the issues that yours had. I’ll admit I was excited when I received SS 3.0 and I just Transformed him and didn’t take time to notice all the things you noticed. I didn’t have most of the problems you did, but your review was fair for the copy you received. I love your content cause it’s honest…and real.

    This is Bobby's opinion, just like it's our opinion. If he doesn't like a figure, and you do, it's fine. There are some figures I have that others say were trash and I liked and still have the figures. Noone is right or wrong. It's your preference but you can't get angry when he disagrees about a figure. Buy what you like. Good video!

      I totally agree with you in principle. Except sometimes Bobby seems like he either doesn't know how to use a figure or is exaggerating some apects he perceives as negative rather than just showing it as is. Still it's his opinion, a floppy joint is a floppy joint and it's good to have different review options and opinions. That stand is definitely trash though lol.

    Bobby is 100% biased against Takara. Which is fine it's his opinion and his review. But the answer to whether or not he is biased against Takara is absolutely. Just by the language and attitude he has used in so many videos it's clear. In the sit down Saturday where they first discussed Mp52 bobby has the most condescending and dismissve tone to what is just a grey prototype. He literally said that Takara was a distraction and needs to "get out of the way". Think about that he is basically saying the people who actually own the character shouldn't be making a figure of their character as if third parties are somehow more worthy of making toys than the company that actually owns the character. Hate to hear it, hate to read it, but it's the truth.

      I thought I was the only one that noticed.
      The 4 dummies Takara Seekers 3.0 video is really something and that was 1 of the first few instances that kinda hammers home that he has a bias against them.
      There were instances prior that he expresses it but not to THAT extent where he got loud and angry about it and he's pretty much singing a similar tune in this video he's deflecting by saying 'I criticize all companies' and may not outright say that he has a bias against them but when you listen closely it's pretty obvious that he does.
      I mean granted ofc, the new Starscream has flaws and it's perfectly fine to have bias, it's all opinion just as you say.

  • @TheACcam
    @TheACcam 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I don't think bias is a good term to use as Bobby is typically more toy specific than company specific.
    However, one thing I've noticed is that if Bobby isn't impressed with a figure, it does tend to make him give a wee bit less credit to what a toy can do well. The opposite is true as well, where if he likes a toy he's more likely to point out what the toy does well repeatedly.
    Compare his Haslab Unicron review to Optus Pexus. Optus has amazing articulation. It's one of the selling points of the toy. Bobby points out that it does, but mentions that "It had better, as that's the point". And hey, maybe that's just my own misinterpretation, but putting it like that makes it sound like "Yeah, but so what". Compare that to his Unicron review where he went on about how the size make it a focal point for his collection. I mean, isn't the Haslab Unicron supposed to be big?
    But, you know, all reviewers have their own personal tastes in their reviews, that's kind of the point. Take the reviews for what they are, someone's opinions. Use them to help formulate your own, not bash their views for not matching up with how you feel.

  • @bobdobalina8910
    @bobdobalina8910 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Opinions are much like A holes........ everyone's got one. Some may have several.
    If you like it, you win. If you don't, sell it, someone else will, or don't buy it then. I watch several reviews to get an idea of a piece, sometimes I buy blind & regret it, sometimes I am pleasantly surprised. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You do you, you WIN!
    Disclaimer IMO: The Higher the PRICE POINT the MORE I EXPECT & DEMAND PERFECTION - so far almost everything has fallen short of the PRICE POINT.
    If I am going to spend BIG $ on a fig, I expect it to be PERFECT for me, or I pass. MP52/52+ didn't do it for me, PRICE POINT was OUTRAGEOUS so it was an easy PASS.

    6:26 Holy moly, my comment really blew up (and not in the way I'd liked). I never meant to invalidate your point about the lack of waist swivel. I agree wholeheartedly that in the 2021 MP game, a waist swivel is not a bonus but an expectation - many customers have posing creativities beyond the cartoon and comics. What I meant to do was to offer some subjective way to enjoy it to those who already have this guy through their own volition or otherwise (since the review already covered the objective aspects to a tee). I hoped that it was in line with your ideas on valueing aesthetic value, limited articulation being theoretically okay so long as it is 'appropriate for the character', and most of all, 'if you like, it you win'. Did not expect it to read as a take hot enough to start a flamewar...
    That out of the way, I think this video makes a great general point. Keep doing what you're doing, feeling what you're feeling and holding the community/figures/companies to a standard they could or should be at.

    To say it the best I can is, I as a person who grew up with G1 in the 80s, I rely on reviews of figures before I buy them to add to my collection especially MP size. I've followed Bobby for over a year now and have bought and passed based on his reviews and others. As far as being or having a bias, I have seen other reviewers just come out trashing certain brands even before doing an even comparison and or continuing to bash after they have done a comparison in earnest. I absolutely appreciate Bobby's reviews and his followups when he has missed something or corrected a previous review. For myself I was a completionist for Takara Masterpiece, until the prices doubled and the in hand feel for quality in my opinion fell. Keep up the solid work Bobby its appreciated.

    I haven't bought a MP seeker yet, after MP-1 I stopped buying Takra Tomy MPs until MP-32 so I'm not trying to defend either my choice in a seeker or a company I love so unconditionally that I have to buy every figure they release. I understand that since Takara Tomy is the official company and since their figures are very expensive the collectors will be highly demanding and less forgiving.
    I haven't had a single seeker in hand up until now so I can't argue about materials, build, hardware or engineering but I can say that for a company that wanted their seeker to be the closest in terms of look to the original cartoon, Takara did a wonderful job. In fact when compared to all the other companies that set out to achieve the same goal Takara Tomy utterly destroyed every other company and will be very hard to surpass.
    You either want a G1 to a fault cartoon look and the look category becomes as objective as any materials, paint, hardware or engineering category, or you want it to be a free interpretation and it becomes the most subjective thing in the world. When I have to evaluate a company work in the look department I need to understand what they set out to achieve and since the release of MP-32 Takara Tomy has been releasing near to perfect looks in that regard. This time wasn't different and who ever says the opposite is just lying or being bias.
    In terms of built, before actually having the figure in hand I have to trust my favorite reviewers but I expect them to be highly demanding when it come to the only official TF company as I explained above. What my experience tells me is that even though I get the impression I'm not going to like a Takara Tomy MP materials, build, hardware and engineering in accordance to the reviews I normally watch when I finally buy it, normally because I can't resist the look, I end up loving everything about my Takara Tomy MPs, the only thing I dislike is the price.
    I have to admit I may have been lucky so far because I've seen bad tolerances, stuff breaking, paint blemishes, etc in some Takara Tomy MP reviews but the truth is when I get mine it's normally near to perfect.
    When I say that even though MP Starscreem seems to have some loose joints the look is near to perfection and for that I'm going to choose him as my seeker but I suggest that ppl should complain about the lose joints because of the price point, the community will trash me either because I'm complaining about a perfect figure or because I'm protecting a horrible company. When I say that Fans Toys Hunk is missing double joint everything, ab crunch, feet up and down and butterfly joints but that I'm still going to buy it because the look is great even though the fans should demand more articulation for the price point, the community will trash me either because I'm complaining about a perfect company or because I'm protecting a horrible figure.
    I have to conclude that ppl are entitled to their bias opinions, we're talking about toy collecting so there's nothing wrong that can come out of it, at least nothing really important to the world. The only thing that gets to me is that the way ppl conduct themselves because of toy collecting tells me a lot about human beings in general and let me tell you we are a bunch of lying, angry and unsatisfied MTF!!!
    P.S. I would like to add... Please don't come running into Mr. Skullface's defense after you read my comment because I'm not trying to make any point about his review, his comparison or his opinion. I love his reviews and comparisons, I don't always agree with 100% of what he says but I love them and I have nothing but respect for the man himself. The proof I love his reviews and that I take his opinion in high regard is the fact that I watch all of them, I never forget to like, add a comment and I always and I mean always thank him for either the review or the comparison. Since I can't thank him with money I like to show my appreciation for his work with a honest "Thank you Mr. Skullface" which is more then the majority of the ppl who come running to trash me in his defense does.

    At the end of the day, this is just another placeholder. If you like MP11, do you really need to upgrade? If you don't like 11, and can't wait for the next version, by all means, buy it. There's a difference in someone's opinion on what they feel isn't done well, vs obvious flaws with the product. This version is good enough for those who feel they want a recent Starscream and tired of looking at MP11.

    I for one appreciate his take on MP Starscream. I refuse to spend 200+ on a figure that I've already bought 3 times (mp-5, mp-11, maketoys meteor) that's not head and shoulders better than the last 3. The only thing I didn't like about meteor was the small head which you can upside with independent toy makers' add-on part on ebay. Plus I'm not fond of the height on the new TT.....but I do love my KFC Blitzing!

    I wasn’t excited for an MP 3.0 starscream because I already have the MP 2.0 versions in way more than just 3….I have MP Sunstorm, MP Acidstorm as well as a Custom MP Acidstorm for a total of 6 2.0 versions. I have that completist problem and I feel the struggle. Almost everyone who reviewed MP52 loved it, but BSF. Lol When I watch the review I could tell the mood shifted and then the smaller things that annoyed him just built up because that is what happens…..when you are disappointed by something you like, doing something you didn’t want to do in the first place or a combination of the 2. The amount of issues he had with the figure would have made me feel the way he did. I want to like it, but also if it’s garbage I don’t want to buy 3 version of the same POS. We all have bias regardless and that is what makes us human. I want to like this figure because I want Takara to succeed so they make other figures…but I dont want to like it because I dont want to spend $1k to get them. Kind of a catch-22 i believe is the term. If Money is no issue then it doesnt matter, but most of us save or budget and want to believe the sacrifice we made of whatever it maybe is not in vain….no one likes disappointment…..

    I bought 52 knowing it could be an unlikeable disaster because it's a sure thing and good enough. I owned the Maketoys trio and they were all floppy and wouldn't hold a pose and the tiny heads looked weird. I'm not rebuying those (especially at the prices Skycrow and Lightning are going for, Maketoys might never reissue those). This Deformation Space SS could be great but who knows? At least the Takara ones are a known quantity.

  • @samgengo7143
    @samgengo7143 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think many people confuse your rougher handling of a figure for inherent dislike, which is unfair. Although the rough handling can sometimes exacerbate your negative thoughts about the figure (the loose wing tip may have been caused by forcing it past a part during transformation), that’s not the same thing as disliking the figure right out of the gate. And, if I’m being fair, other figures have withstood worse; starscream is definitely not build well. This is the case where the QC is a huge issue and while some copies have been documented as being almost flawless, there are many that aren’t-something that should have been caught at the factory. I always appreciate how objective you can be in reviews like this!

    I say Heck yeah you can critique Structure and designs. There are rules that apply to engineering so that a specific thing does what it's supposed to do and If you have a figure that doesn't stand up, not because of a loose screw but an actual design flaw, then that is a valid issue. Quality assurance is the trust built between the provider and the consumer. Any Brand can't "STAND" on name alone for long. I would have to say that Quality assurance must be at the forefront of any third party brand just as much, if not more, than big toy companies.

    To me the fact that this video even had to be made is somewhat absurd. I will say upfront I’m someone that collected the original transformers way back in the day. I just started to collect the Masterpiece ones in the last year or so. So I understand why folks have been frustrated with reissues and such that were initially buying these. Bobby’s videos (Emgo’s - and others) have been very helpful with my buying decisions. Back to this ridiculous issue. I purchased the Takara Starscream. Mine doesn’t have the issues - to the extent that the copy Bobby’s did. And frankly of the videos I was looking forward to, it was Bobby’s. Cause he’s leave the bullshit at the door type of guy and will give an honest opinion (and I don’t even know him). He bought up very valid issues - and I’m happy with mine. To each his own. At the end of the day with all reviews from all folks - opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.

    So personally there are issues with all seekers... folding vertical fins... high standing chest in bot mode... chunky looking alt mode... No matter the make/version I just am not happy.
    With the price point they are at I don't doubt I'm not the only one. And that's taking the point of a bad QA job of the legs on mp52 aside. I don't think it's a gerwalk issue... if anything that should have made cause for better tension, not less. Complete fail on Takara no matter if the legs are floppy or just loose. Both my Starscream and Thundercracker have loose bends at the knee, posable but on a specific ratchet... the tension can give out and they fall over. (I really think there is not enough tension in the joint) The review was good and any subjectivity was kept aside and explained. I think anyone that wants to complain about a good review, need to really look at what is driving them to be upset about it... it's not the review.

    Ow man. People Complain too much 🤣. Nice subject though.
    But first off, some1 please explain "8 weeks" to me 😅.
    A while ago we were planning on having a patreon talk on a subject i do not remember, but this is also an interesting one 👍🏼 and it goes deeper than confirmation bias alone. Confirmation bias (or anchoring bias for that matter) can be void of any experienced emotion, but ppl are ready to bring out the pitchforks on some reviews! 😅 It touches on why we watch reviews and why we collect. Seemingly collectors want a percieved authority in their field of collection to acknowledge their purchase/collection. OR to acknowledge that they were right in NOT getting a certain figure. This need seems to grow the more expensive a figure is - to them-. Weirdly people in the higher echelons of collecting (statues/busts/cars) seem less focused on this affirmation/confirmation by reviewers, but i could be wrong here. It wouldn 't be such of a gamble to say that the procured collection has become part of the ego of the collector. The interesting question is why. Which comes to, why do we réally collect? And the question to that goes deeper than the answers which are usually given, like in one of the previous sitdown saturdays i believe.
    Anyway, even though it's cool that u bring up this interesting subject, It's really weird to be held accountable for your subjectieve (sometimes even objective) opinion on a toy you review 🤣🤣
    Great job bringing it up, and i love these discussions 👍🏼😁

    Is he biased against Takara? No. Honestly from everything I've seen from their latest releases Takara has gone downhill for a few reasons. Instead of figures like MP-10 where they have some kibble on the bot mode from the alt mode, we're getting figures that they're over-engineering to keep them as clean and close to the cartoon as possible. MP-44 was dang good looking, but it has some big drawbacks compared to others like its predecessor and two 3rd party figures. Nu Bee is a trainwreck with kibble everywhere that's insanely unsightly, Hound looks good but had problems with pieces breaking and paint chipping...
    NuScream looks damn good, you can't deny that. But it's not so jawdroppingly awesome that it completely crushes the Maketoys offering.
