It seems like the further we go in terms of graphics the less creative the games become.
Consoles... They made all games similar to each other. Adventure shooters with "great" story.
yep
@@EJ205T consoles have absolutely nothing to do with it.
That's true. That's why I stopped playing anything western (except some indie titles). I switched completely to Japanese market.
That is so true. Especially for racing games. Remember we used to have titles like kinetica, now it's just pretty much forza and gran turismo
It's impressive that I could run almost all these games with a crappy 1MB onboard video chip at the time... It was a different breed of programmers back then, talk about optimization
Exactly. I'm a computer engineering student, and during my first year in college our teachers on a certain subject made us create a videogame, any game of any genre, so I decided to make a super simple Arkanoid clone. Long story short, with a simple Python script and a few sprites, my little 8-bit project weighted more than 60 MB. It made me realize programmers back then were truly wizards by being able to develop software optimized enough to the hardware they had at the time.
@@danielbueno8474 it's amazing how some see limitation as a problem and give up but others see it as a challenge and seize the opportunity.
@@jackkraken3888 That's so true. Human beings can be truly amazing sometimes. :)
The amount that got ported to PS1 pays tribute to that
It's also worth mentioning that, back then, 30 FPS was pretty much the standard in any game as far as the performance target goes and that framerate is incredibly easy to achieve even with weak hardware. 60 FPS didn't become a necessity until at least the late 90's or the early 2000's when 3D accelerated cards like the 3DFX Voodoo lineup became widely available and adopted as a standard for 3D graphics. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't recall retro games running on a framerate higher than 30 or 40 at the very least. Again, 60 Fps was more of a novelty rather than the desired target for performance, not to mention that developers in the mid 90's had no choice but to work with the existing hardware anyway.
After 26 years, I revived our family’s first pc. An IBM Aptiva 2176, running win95 with pentium 120Mhz and 16mb of ram. Thanks for the upload
Love how I immediately recognised the Stargunner OST. Makes me want to play it again. Good times.
1993-2008 is the golden age of gaming to me
Beyond 2003 already too much 3D crap.
emulator king
@@nft3it's not crap,it's not a evolving revolution
yeah it was the era of the explosion of pc gaming and fast hardware advancement which was hugely expensive to keep up with but very exciting at the time. It started a couple years earlier with Wing commander and ended with crysis in 2007, pc gaming hasnt been quite the same since.
Doom 95, Full Tilt! Pinball, Pitfall, Hellbender, Diablo 1, MDK 1, Hover, 3D Ultra Pinball and Time Commando are all nice memories for me.
Still the best OS! HOVER was my favourite Win95-Game.
I've only played 42 of these games back in the day, I forgot about most of them, I thought I had only played maybe 10 at the most- man was i lucky to have a pc. Thanks for the nostalgia and bringing back some good memories for me!
Thanks!
Such fine graphics for that era and available memory amount
Yeaaa
i just had the biggest flashback of my life, thanks!
Unbelievable =) Al Unser Jr. Arcade Racing was one of my first racing games. It's over 25 years ago and I had forgot the name of this Game for so many years. -.- Thank you for this short video part, that remind me. =D
These games hold up surprisingly well. Some of them could pass for modern Era.
This music is from Apogee's Stargunner! Nostalgia!
FIRE FIGHT!! You found the game I've been looking for, for years!
Hell yeah, that was always one of my favorites
Same here! Could never remember the name of it!
Hey. Just wanted you to know how much the "History of Video Games (1972-2007)" video you posted 8 years ago was important to me. Getting to know Tom Waits and his songs was amazing, thank you for that.
+Gustavo Moura: Thanks for letting me know, you're welcome and I feel honored :).
It was Shiny Things, from Tom Waits
Sorry, I kind of forgot from which game this music is... It's probably from one of the games in the video (I thought it was maybe Fury3 or Monster Truck Madness, but I can't seem to find it again...)
Great, thanks! How did you find out?
This is when 3D really started taking off. I consider myself lucky to have witness the fast paced advancement of 3D graphics since then
I just blew a load of nostalgia
Thank you so much! I had the hardest time trying to remember the name of "Deathdrome". Loved that game.
A fellow Deathdrome hunter here, a year later. I went for this same search until I arrived here. Such a cool game that I even remeber it 20+ years after I played it for the first time xd
Al Unser Jr., Doom 95, Fury 3, Havoc, DeathDrome, Full Tilt, Return Fire, Earthworm Jim, Myst, Red Alert.
Gotta tell ya, I loved all of these games but Return Fire was a friggin' blast to play split screen with someone. My sister and I used to chase each other around in the jeeps trying to grenade each other and I remember laughing until it was hard to breathe.
The two games I spent more time on than any others at the time were definitely Doom II and Close Combat though.
0:59 BATTLE BEAST!! Gosh! I've been trying to remember the name of that game for years!! Thank you!
Thanks! I think the title of that game is better than the actual gameplay :)
Arcade America !!
Thank you for this. I be been trying to remember the name of that game for years
Ha! i played the demo and this video just made me remember after 19 years lol (1997 )
Some of these games were included in those CD Sampler disks as demos. I believe they came in two volumes and we had one of them for our third computer, which was a Windows 95 PC we bought back in 1997.
Yes! Those CD Sampler discs are designed as a sort of museum/short maze
@@applemctom Yeah, and some of those games were iconic and some were left forgotten. They can't all be winners.
Had Endorfun in a collection that came with our Activa(or Aptiva can't remember) Windows 95 computer. That collection also had Hyper Man, Silent Steel, Pitfall Mayan adventure, and Descent. Great time for gameing seeing how i had my SNES and NES and access to the Genesis
I had this CD with this exact games. The memories...
Had no idea Time Commando was on PC too. I played the PS version and loved it back then.
I had the PC version. Loved it then, mostly for the soundtrack.
_Doom_, _Fury³_, _Hellbender_, _Monster Truck Madness_, and _Flight Simulator for Windows 95_ are my thing.
The Neverhood was truly one of its kind. Funny and creepy at the same time
My family still plays You Don't Know Jack together today. You can get the whole collection on Steam now. One of the best gameshow/trivia games ever created.
My first computer was C64. Second was coputer with Windows95 and some of games above were my youth. So nostalgic...
Holy Shitballs! That's the Stargunner Theme Song!
I have been looking for this game (Arcade America) for many years! It's a childhood game! Thank you for reminding! 🤓🤟🏻🤗

-90`s intensifies
it's funny how i STILL think total annihilation is a very demanding game unconsciously. without realizing it's actually a piece of cake to run at my pc would do it at thousands of FPS nowadays.
I have played a frighteningly high percentage of these games, *adds more to wishlist* :D
Also if anyone's a fan of fury3 and Hellbender, don't forget Terminal Velocity (although Hellbender's best imho)
Played the Fury3 demo, had Terminal Velocity (loved it, but never could beat it) andI got Hellbender from a classmate in 5th grade. I never understood why that kind of flight shooters were never as popular as they should.
1:42 "hey welcome to another episode of bad unboxing"
Lol
so many hours spent on AoE
yea!!
set everything to 999999 LOL
When something went wrong on a campaign: bigdaddy
Wow, never knew the You Don't Know Jack games went that far back
Omg I remember 3D Ultra Pinball! Wasn't that on a CD that you got from a Chex box? I remember playing the hell outta that game back in the day
25 years and some of these games still look more fun than some of the crap they bring out today
Games I recognized were Doom 95, Full Tilt! Pinball, Star Wars Rebel Assault II, Monster Truck Madness, 3D Ultra Pinball, SimCity 2000 and Fallout. Course of the the ones I recognized the only two I played were Full Tilt! Pinball and Monster Truck Madness.
zork nemesis freaked me the ef out as a kid!
Muppet treasure island was my jam as a 6 y/o. so many good memories :)
Dis was helpful. I wanted to make a game that looked like a windows95 browser game. Its funny to see how high Polly and HD these games all look
Back then when hardwares were cheap and games were fun.
I played most of them I should add take no prisoners that game was so addictive.
My less-known recommendations: Warheads, it plays like Worms 2, in turns, but you shoot from spaceships and planets pull your shots with their gravity, pretty cool. And Mother of All Battles, a cool little strategy game but now that I think about it is just a Civilization 2 clone.
arcade america was a demo in a disc i had back in the day, i wasn't able to find it, mostly cause all my searches were based on the memory of it being for ms-dos, holy shit.
Omg I was trying to remember Fury 3 and I found it!! Lol
Wow, so many memories... how many of those games have you played back when they were new?
Slam dunk! that was my coming of age era. Wish GOG would just freakin release them all
this is like one of those old 90's demo discs, shits fucking INTENSE!!
Amazing Stargunner soundtrack!
OMG Captain Claw :D
Stargunner music epitomises this era of gaming 👌
Holy shit, Time Commando! I played that one for countless hours, along Raptor: Call of the Shadows and Rise of the Triad.
Fun fact, Rise of the Triad was developed by Tom Hall, who was the narrative designer for the original Doom.
0:03 I played this on my grandmas windows 95 computer
Then she had a powerful computer, because Al Unser Jr. Racing on Windows 95 didn't run to well on all computers.
PITFALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!! When I finally beat that game I felt like the king of the world.
If you type a "hatman" the actor and/or enemies turn to stick figures, hehehe...

1993-2002 the golden age of gaming ever!!
omg why I find this so much better than modern gaming? 😍
because you haven't played modern games or these games
Well actually I did but maybe its because the old graphics are more flattering that modern graphics but I like both of those types
*than
OK no problem but I like new games 😀
Well the graphics may seem not as good as it is today but they used to put more effort into games than they do now
had the demo disc for this back in the day!
Wow. This is really good 480p HD.
1:02 AT LAST!!! I CAME HERE LOOKING FOR THAT GAME!!
War Wind, a decent early RTS! :)
Both games available on GOG :)
www.gog.com/games?sort=bestselling&search=war%20wind&page=1
I used to have demos of allot of these games when I was a kid and would love to track them down.
Hell yeah Total Annihilation, Hyperblade, Hover!. Good 'ol days.
Anyone remember a game where you control a needle, when you pressed space the needle was addering to curtains points?
Hellbender and Fury 3 were my jam :)
What was that strange game which was like a sports memorabilia thing? It just showed you video clips of different sports.
que buenos juegos tuvimos en la infancia
The Neverhood después de 25 años de jugarlo sin saber el nombre. a descargar!
I remember full tilt pinball like it was yesterday... Damn that's scary
Oh damn MDK, the memories
Wow such an era
I know approximately 10 of these. I had some kind of childhood I think.
So many memorieeeees back!!!!!
Those Red Alert explosion sprites tho... they show up EVERYWHERE.
Can they capture when it took me almost a day to install Dark Reign on my Gateway Pentium 75?
I’m only watching this because my laptop works really well in old games
NEXT: 95 windows 65 games in 1 second
That music brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrruh!!!
All though Doom was on Dos first , what a legendary game , will go down as the all time g.o.a.t
I'd be interested to know how these games were selected. Random things that were published in that era, or best of in the opinion of applemctom?
Kinda both :)
3D Movie Maker should've been on the list.
Man this music is so Man this music is so 90s it's awesome.
I remember a game where you're in a hallway of prisons and you have to kill all the guards. It's like doom 95, but the background was very simple. Idk if it's on Win95.
wolfenstein 3d
Let's see which games I've played: Doom 95, Full Tilt! Pinball, Road Rash, MDK, Hover!, Monster Truck Madness, 3D Ultra Pinball, SimCity 2000, Age of Empires, You Don't Know Jack
Damn I'm feeling old..
Can anyone remember a game called Hacker? You played a kid in your room hacking some company called Magma? It was part of the Win95 Game Sampler! Been trying to remember/find out about it. Maybe it was part of the Atari 2600 collection that was on there?
Wow This woes made 3 years ago and it's in 3 minute's!? What a Coincidence.
Comment Made: 10/12/2019
I'm just wondering if 95, 98, XP, 3.11 are free now or do I need to buy a license for them too?
Im searching for a 2d one screen game where you play underneath a cemetery i think. You played with a green zombie or frankenstein looking dude, there was also 2 player amd thr other player was coloured blue. I think it came out somewhere in the mid 90s and it was w95 game, not dos. Thr gameplay might have been og mario bros inspired, the one screen one.
what version of you dont know jack is this one? from 2:50 - 2:54 ive been tryin to find a way to either download or play tht version and what year is it from?
I think it's the original version.
@@applemctom do u know if thiere is a download link anywhere?
Wasn't Descent out at that time?
i got all these games running on my xbox series s using retroarc dos box pure!
Descent didn't make the list?
HyperBlade, Fury3, Earthworm Jim ... these were my favorites. But there is one missing that I cannot find anymore. A Vertical Scrolling Shooter in space. Cannot find the name. But I will find it. I have to.
1:30 Diablo was meant for Windows 98 and not 95, it also used DirectX7 or 6 I think
I am thinking to buy Windows 98 gaming pc could it play these games ? If not what pc should I buy ?
You can probably play most of those games on Windows 98 as well.
You can play these games on virtual box windows 98 so yes it would work.
Need For Speed: Road & Track Edition and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit should have been included
The first you mentioned is a DOS game and Hot Pursuit came when Windows 98 or even Millenium Edition was current.
I'm searching for a game that I played as kid, it's was some kind of lumberjack killing some grayish zombies, just like Zombies ate my neighbors but you threw axes instead of water...
What is the song being played?
KKND
S.C.A.R.A.B
Worms United
Dungeon keeper
Sim tower
Bevis and butthead little thingies
Disk world
all need to be added to this 😌
Feel sorry for everyone who didn’t grow up in the 90s!! You really missed out!
How about LEISURE SUIT LARRY 7 LOVE FOR SAIL!
