The first callers old job is so important. When someone leaves the hospital or rehab their insurance might not cover the costs they need to stay out of inpatient services. Having someone like the first caller can ease the frustration that comes with signing up for government services. Also it’s not just for the elderly, disabled people can get medicare as well. Medicare gets a bad rep because the elderly frequently sign up for the wrong type of medicare, but jobs like the first callers can help prevent this.
Absolutely LOVED this episode and we need Kelsey back on the show! Love the vibes of you two together, you volley well together and it’s infectious and it made my day thank you guys lol ❤

Kelsey with Miles feels like they’ve been best friends for years.
This might be weird to comment on here since the conversation happened on Kelsey's podcast with Miles and I don't mean to like bring down anyone's mood reading this, but the conversation about grief and losing a close family member, like. Hm. About to get very dark, FYI! I am in my early 30s. My Dad committed suicide in my late teens. Multiple close family members also passed that same year. I have never never never neverrrrr (will be requesting refunds from multiple therapists!) heard someone like, so expertly nutshell how that grief shaped me at that point in my life and informed how I grew into adulthood than during Miles' talking about his experience. Which is crazy because they are so different, but I think that shows how like, learning what true grief is at that age entails (or just that I am severely mentally ill which also tracks). I've never commented on a youtube video before but have been replaying that portion of the podcast for the last couple of days and just felt the need to say like, from one stranger across the internet to another, with literal zero intention to make this sound as weird as it does, that conversation moved me in a way that I think I will always remember. So sorry for your loss but thank you for your openness about your experience, and things absolutely don't always happen for a reason (thanks for reenforcing that, too.)

So much love for Libby! As someone who also had a "straightforward" boss, I know that pain. You can never please them no matter what you do. If she had invited me to anything after I left that job, I sooo would've gone and brought some backhanded compliment card and ate as much cake as I could. Have fun at the shower Libby!

God i love this podcast this is an older video but, this podcast got me through ny first and only eviction. We just had a baby and my husband got laied off , it was horrible. Were in a much much better place now, better than we could have dreamed, stable amd happy. And this pod still brings so so much joy

That roommate advice tho, perfection
As someone who was fired from a place that was full of drama like two days before a group of us were meant to go bowling and then drinking as a group this first call is hitting very hard. Also I want someone like (or not just like but actually her) Kelsey in my life to encourage things like she does in this she is like a hypeman who is funny as fuck, down to deep convos and not to be creepy but is super hot which is increased by all those parts of her personality.
I reacted the same way about the rent. The Bay Area has warped my sense. $1600 for a 2 bedroom? That’s less than my studio lol
My partner and I have an entire house in mid-Illinois and pay $1025. It's a college city, so I don't know why the rent was so cheap to be honest (I do not think it is the norm in the city, in general). I have a friend who just moved to town and she pays almost that much for an apartment, and while that is a better price than the large cities, for an apartment it should not be that much unless you have a ton of perks to live there or something. The price is going up everywhere, sadly.

I had a boss exactly like that. I think something about pregnant bosses being mean is a thing. Their moods are out of control and they just do and say the first thing on their mind without thinking it through. I got a gift for her unborn baby girl just for the sake of making peace with her and she was shocked and started being nice to me after that. I still didn't like her but at least she stopped giving me a hard time at work.

As a Poly activist and educator that has been in the non-monogamy culture for over 45 years I offer the following:
Kelsey says that Polyamory is having multiple romantic relationships and combining relationships. Huh? No. It isn't about "combining" relationships at all.
She then goes on to say that ENM (as opposed to Polyamory in her mind) is a more open dynamic without rules.
What she calls ENM is basically one of the key values that polyamory is founded on. To expand on that, one of the key foundational values of the Modern Polyamory Movement is the recognition that we all possess the self-sovereign birthright to be the sole deciders of what we do with our own hearts and bodies.
Random suggestion about the name issue: if the hyphenated name would be “Yen-Nieman” instead of having it be hyphenated, maybe take the hyphenated name and phonetically spell it as one name, like “Yenieman.” Maybe some people will have trouble pronouncing it, but that happens with a bunch of last names so who cares. Avoids troubles of hyphens and feels more united and truly intermixed than a hyphen name.

I'm kind of thinking about simply not having a baby shower. She's due in February, and it's flu season, and I have an auto-immune disorder. I am not a fan of large gatherings. I didn't have bridal or wedding showers, I had this really uncomfortable luncheon to celebrate my elopment with my childhood church that my mother orchestrated, where she had me and in-laws at a table like the last supper. My mother and I aren't in a good place, because I stole her cat, because she was going to leave her without care for a week, and originally this cat was "gifted" (animals are not gifts!) to me in my senior year of high school. My In-laws are great, absolutely the family I wish I always had, except that would make marriage awkward. Mother is teetering close to me pushing the "no contract" button to protect my family and self.
