The escalator situation is not just New York lol. Everywhere else in the world they walk up/down the freaking escalator. And if you’re not walking up/down you stay on to the right side so people can walk around you easily.

one time my mom and i were crossing the street in new york and i was in a wheelchair because i had surgery on both of my ankles and my mom couldn’t get the wheelchair back on the sidewalk because the wheel was being wonky and some guy picked up me in the wheelchair and put me on the sidewalk because i was stuck in the street. new yorkers are nice people

Escalators are meant to help you climb faster... You're supposed to actually climb with it... Just like the moving walkways, you walk with the movement to quicken your pace. Oregon girl here, I can't say we are nicer to people, I think people on the east coast are just more real with how they act/talk.
Literally this is the first I’ve heard of people who don’t just stand on the escalators and wait. Like…the entire point of them is so we don’t have to climb stairs??

😂 We use escalators as stairs in Montréal too! Stand on the right side and pass on the left. It’s more common in the Subway (Métro) system but we do it in malls too 😂

Omg the first caller. My brother does this. I post my artwork, now he’s an artist. I became sober (was an addict for a decade) now he is also counting sober days while still smoking a shitload of weed and never had a drug or alcohol problem. It actually hurts me especially with the sobriety thing, he’s an older brother
